US release date revealed at PAX (not official, said in interview)
Archive: 27 posts
In a video interview with Kyle Shubel he announced the game will be released in the US on the 21st of October. I know a lot of sites already had this up (IGN for one) but I don't think it was actually announced by anyone from MM or Sony before. This is a full 8 days before the EU release. LiBiPl's Blog Post (http://www.libipl.net/libiplblog/2008/08/31/us-release-date-revealed-at-pax/) Video Interview with Kyle Shubel (http://www.ps3center.net/video/index.php?sect=latest&idv=310) It seems a bit early to me... I mean I could import it from the US or Canada and still maybe get it before it releases in the EU. | 2008-09-01 01:26:00 Author: Burrich ![]() Posts: 1018 |
Yeah, but the extra cost of importing it.... Anyway, it doesn't seem early at all to me. Right on time, to me. ![]() | 2008-09-01 03:34:00 Author: bbroman ![]() Posts: 1374 |
Sweet. I'm really excited. | 2008-09-01 03:35:00 Author: ConfusedCartman ![]() Posts: 3729 |
Yeah, but the extra cost of importing it.... Well no due to the euro being strong I can get a game delivered from Canada for 43 euro while most games here are 60-75 euro on release. If that is the official date, I think I'll import it and spend up to 20 euro to get it here quickly if possible. Same price, few days earlier ![]() | 2008-09-01 04:01:00 Author: Burrich ![]() Posts: 1018 |
if true this makes me happy, but why would they do it this way why not just a global release? | 2008-09-01 04:42:00 Author: OverWork ![]() Posts: 873 |

This sucks for us in the uk if it's true. I live about 30 miles from where the game is being made and gonna have to wait a whole week after it's released in the us. And i'm going away on the 31st oct for a long weekend, so only get 2 days of play grrlol I reckon it's 31st, UK29th, Jap30th lol thats just me hoping lol If you lot get it a week before us i'll have to stay off here for that week, or i'll burst with jealousy ha ha :o ![]() | 2008-09-01 08:29:00 Author: dorien ![]() Posts: 2767 |

Well, there's a good side to all of this. You Euros don't have to wait for user levels to populate the servers; they'll already be filled unless they region-lock their servers, which they aren't doing. | 2008-09-01 08:29:00 Author: ConfusedCartman ![]() Posts: 3729 |
That's true - but still there's 50 pre-loaded levels to play through first!!!! Although, I guess that might only take up a day or two's gaming! | 2008-09-01 08:53:00 Author: mrbobbyboy ![]() Posts: 304 |
... I'll take the release date as official, thanks. | 2008-09-01 09:40:00 Author: aer0blue ![]() Posts: 1603 |
I'll order it from the US or something.. I'll find my way around it. | 2008-09-01 11:13:00 Author: DrunkMiffy ![]() Posts: 2758 |
I still don't believe it.. one of the dates must be wrong. But I just remembered alot of the sites have been saying 21st since it got pushed to october, that was a long time ago.. it could be another mix-up. | 2008-09-01 11:35:00 Author: Maltay ![]() Posts: 2073 |

Yeah, it actually does seem kind of strange that we get it so much earlier. I mean, I'm cool with it, but it is pretty unfair. I doubt they messed up a date though. | 2008-09-01 12:30:00 Author: bbroman ![]() Posts: 1374 |

No. America is an exponentially bigger market than Europe is. That's the just the way things are. | 2008-09-01 20:42:00 Author: bbroman ![]() Posts: 1374 |
No. It's not. I think you really under estimate how popular gaming is in Europe. http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/ubisoft-europe-is-now-our-biggest-territory Maybe the US is a slightly bigger market than Europe but I don't think the gap is as big as you seem to think. And definitely not exponentially bigger. Here's the NPD results: http://arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.ars/2008/08/21/three-largest-gaming-markets-tracked-in-expanded-npd-coverage They compare the UK (which is just 3 country in Europe) to the US so it isn't exactly an even comparison. | 2008-09-01 21:36:00 Author: Burrich ![]() Posts: 1018 |
sam posted on the sony forums and said that nothing is 100% true unless it it posted on the official sites... so he pretty much said its not true but its not not true | 2008-09-01 22:14:00 Author: 12454522412412 ![]() Posts: 779 |

That's not very convincing. The main reason Ubisoft says Europe is a more important market - not bigger - is simply due to the Euro vs. the dollar. The dollar has been making a very slow, very slight comeback - hey, it's still a comeback, right? - so that has diminished that factor slightly. As for the NPD study - even if they included all of Europe, the US would still trounce their numbers. A couple are close, but they are very far behind in a few as well. Plus, all the hype is earned in the US. The US can get a game's name out there much better than Europe could. No offense, but right now, Europe is at least a second banana, and probably a third one. | 2008-09-01 23:36:00 Author: bbroman ![]() Posts: 1374 |
1 thing i'm not getting well they always screw Europe up, but thats with American companies and this one is British and their office is in London so why is it still released in US earlier | 2008-09-02 14:29:00 Author: megakonijn ![]() Posts: 47 |
Lol, its actually because Ameicans can't wait for anything. We need everything right now or its no good. Why wait for a healthier burger that costs the same? It would take an extra 20 minutes, no good. Heck, why do you think Sushi does so well here, we don't even have to wait for it to be cooked! Yee haw America! :arg: Either way, I have been going into withdrawls from Littlebigplanet push dates, I am glad that there might possibly maybe probably unlikely be a date now. | 2008-09-02 14:37:00 Author: trialaccess ![]() Posts: 101 |
