"The Perpetual Distance" Prologue (Pics Included)

Archive: 23 posts

Okay, since I'm kinda stuck with DMC Mission IV and I need a really long break from it, I'm gonna start with this series entitled, "The Perpetual Distance", inspired by music in the albums, "The Great Cold Distance" and, "The Last Fair Deal Gone Down" by Katatonia. The story goes like this:

There is a relatively small body just beyond our own planet which somehow manages to support life in the future as our Sun grows ever larger. On it live a race of aliens who manage to develop on the land and soon enough begin developing their technology, whilst refusing to deface the asteroid's natural beauty with the architecture found on Earth. Due to it being one of the most unreflective minor planets in the solar system, it's able to develop as a race and study ours in total secrecy. Only a few astronomers have discovered this body, yet those same people have never been seen again, nor have their documents...

The alien race is very similar to our own, only they seem superhuman in many physical and mental aspects, even having the ability to communicate telepathically. One of them, named Alistair, is half human himself, and was born with severe skin irritations and so therefore has burning red scars on his brow and his chin from being burnt by the air around him. He is the main protagonist in the series, and his ambition is to send a message down to Earth that will hopefully save the human race from the corruption that will eventually destroy them. However, his foster-brother (and ex-partner, Lizeth) wants to take over the planet Earth and put it under his rule. He claims he's doing the Earth a favour.

You, however, have been monitored by Alistair for several months now, in a hope that you can join him in stopping his brother taking over his second planetary home. You are knocked out and mysteriously transported to this unknown body, only to discover where you are weeks after you were knocked unconscious, the heartfelt pain running through your body when you realise that you have been completely taken away from your home planet and everyone you loved so dearly.

How will you manage on this new minor planet? Will you fulfil your destiny and help to prevent Lizeth's plans? An all new goal, all new ambition, completely original level in terms of gameplay and story. It's still in development, but the prologue and the first chapter should be done soon, trust me, it's going like a dream. Here are a few images:

I'll post updates regularly, I hope you show interest in it because this is possibly my best project yet.

Thank you for reading,
KoRn.

The first chapter is well underway, the prologue is coming after its completion and should be published soon. The next section which I'm working is where the real action comes in, and hopefully I'll be able to try out this new feature I've been dying to do where each area has a special R1 function which will help you access areas and defeat enemies, etc. Should work, I'll need to test it vigorously and test with two player, so Zwollie or John, I'll need to call on you soon 2009-05-29 10:24:00

no problem!

i love testing stuff, (except when its my own, cuz its annoying seeing what i made 100 times...)

and i played it again today, the slip & death works great! no glitch, i actually jumped high, so i got a tad caught on the ledge, slipping slowly and fell... which adds alot of effect and drama!

I'm actually going to change that a bit, instead of falling there, I'm going to make you fail after you've gone past the three floating platforms. Using an ingenious idea proposed by somebody here on this board (I will find out names and give credit) I'm going to have you go onto the next platform and jump without pressing anything, all the way onto another platfrom and THEN it cracks and you fall off.

May I just jump onto this thread once again! It's been a month, and after excessive work on my DMC IV level, I decided to return to the Prologue of this series. It's nearly done, and has been great fun to make. I'm finishing off the prologue now, and working on the first chapter at the same time so bear with me, it will take some time but it will be worth it! I've been writing theme music and I've managed to use a PTD to play the music and get it to follow you. A whole ton of adjustments have been made as well, I aim to make this the first ever RPG adventure series in LBP, I hope it turns out to be epic.

Later from me,
Mike.

Thanks guys, I'll be putting the full theme song in a separate music level. Funnily enough, the LBP version of the song sounds a lot different to the original version on guitar, the original sounds more adventurous yet this one sounds rather dramatic, it's amazing how many forms one tune can take! I may start recording some of these...

The level's getting along nicely, I'm very nearly almost done with the prologue, just need to finish off the last section and it'll be out, followed by the first chapter...

Katatonia does equal win, but the series is not based around the meaning of the album. For some reason the music really motivates me to push the project forward, it sets the mood and gives that ambitious feeling. The series gets darker like the music as the story unwinds...

@Cog - I almost forgot, and I did say there was absolutely no rush Though I am grateful

I'm thinking of something based on Amorphis' latest album Skyforger.
So I have to find some Finnish Kalevala iconography.

The Prologue is 90% complete now, I should have it done and dusted in a couple of days. However, once I'm nearly finished with Chpater I (shouldn't take long), I'll release both one after the other.

@Voltiare - Thank you, I wanted to get that feel in the beginning, but things become a lot more open and less populated as the series progresses. Darker, moodier, more emotional too

Btw, what do you think of the sig?

Yes, the prologue has been released (faily old news but it's doing well), and Chapter one is well underway. I will have it done by next week, perhaps a bit later. I'm also working with John on a separate project at the same time so I'm in a very creative mood. 'Til then, enjoy the prologue, the chapters to come will have way more platforming.2009-07-17 18:41:00
