Just had an email newsletter from SCEE about some new software download coming Summer 2009 it says which will allow us to stream free music videos to the PS3.

I was going to put the picture here for you to see and read the info but I don't know how.

I copied the picture but it won't let me paste it here.

It basically just says what I put above anyway.

I think the US has been able to download films and tv shows for ages now, all we have is a few trailers

e3 interview for Vidzone (http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2009/06/04/e3-interview-vidzone/)

Video of Vidzone in action (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=215879)

Releasing on 11th June and it is initially only in the following countries:

UK, Ireland, Australia, Italy, France, Spain and Germany

No idea if you can download it in the US if you have an account for one of these countries.

The service seems to be very good, here's some info from the interview.

?VidZone is partnered with a production company that provides us with exclusive interviews, behind the scenes music video features and live gig footage, and that?s going to be in place at launch,? replied Jackson. ?PS3 owners will be able to watch an interview with Kasabian, as well as an exclusive live performance of Processed Beats, which was recorded in London and has a phenomenal vibe.?

?There are over 10,000 videos,? said Jackson ?They will be updated every week, and in terms of quantities, those updates will be in the hundreds. Our ultimate dream is to have every music video ever made on the service, as well as classic live performances dating back to the 1950s, in their entirety.?

"Having been able to play around with the service here at E3, I?m very impressed. The video quality is superb, the menus are slick and intuitive and it's a piece of cake setting up playlists from the impressive collection of videos available."

From Wikipedia:

The VidZone catalogue encompasses over 1.5 million tracks, 25,000 music videos and 15,000 realtones,[1] including full access to catalogues from Sony BMG[2] and EMI.[3]

In 2009, VidZone?s service will be extended to the PlayStation 3 video game system in Europe and Australia, allowing users to watch music videos for on their PS3 or streamed to their PSP via Remote Play.[4]

Wow, I really hope they'll have some real music on there and not just the music they showed off in the E3 trailer, if you can call that music 2009-06-10 20:24:00

Too right! Bloody Bonkers! Stupid **** song! Has a decent background beat but otherwise it sucks. Really don't like Dizzy Rascal... can't understand why his last two songs have become hits.

Really looking forward to making a few great playlists. My PS3 will definitely be on constantly from now on, even when I'm not playing it. Wonder what the audio quality will be like. Also I wonder if you can just listen to the songs and not watch the videos. AND I wonder if they will ever make it possible to stream music while playing a game... offline of course as it would probably create too much lag to play and online game with this running as well... probably will never happen though due to advertising.

Oh and despite my Xbot friends' attempts to tell me otherwise, this service is WAY better than Last.fm. In Last.fm you have to listen to songs you don't want to listen to, you can only pick artists or genres... which lets face it is a good way to find good music that you may not otherwise listen to. But in terms of creating personal playlists and listening to music you really like, Vidzone is way better!

Well yes but I have to say I've spent quite a number of hours of my life watching MTV, VH1, the Box, Smash Hits, Scuzz, Kerrang and the few others on Sky, checking out the newest songs and vids to make using this well worth my while. It's out today sometime... can't wait!2009-06-11 08:02:00

I really like it. The actual service is good and videos seem to load without delay which I'm really happy about.

There are a few problems though. If you're looking through all the Ms for instance, if you click on an artist and then go back to the previous menu it bring you back to the very start of the list, which really sucks. It's ok if you're looking for a specific artist but not so good for browsing.

Also the navigation in general needs to be faster. Should be d-pad for slow movement and analog stick for quick movement.

A number of artists are listed but have no songs.

Searching by video takes too long to load.

Typing a name should either use the PS3 text or have a quicker scrolling function and start at the previous letter used not start off at A for each letter input.

Still for the initial launch of an online service I think it is excellent . Just needs a few patches.
