In Development: "Cold Clockwork" Level Pack!

Archive: 5 posts

Hello all, I'd like to announce my latest concoction that I will be spilling unto LittleBigPlanet soon...

This level has currently been in development on and off for about 3 months. During March/April I was without my PS3, during this time, I planned the majority of the level so I've had a lot of time to think up ideas and puzzles for it.

The current running-title for this project is simply, "Cold Clockwork". The name is subject to change, I'm currently taking suggestions for a newer, better title for the pack.

This level takes place aboard The Collectors war factory/airship that's suspending miles above the planets surface, churning out various robotic weapons, and tools of destruction. The airship itself isn't sci-fi, or modern, but instead uses propellers and gears to keep it aloft. My main inspiration for this, is from various steampunk movies and books...

Sackboy must infiltrate the flying war factory, shut down the weapon manufacturing sections, navigate through heavy machinery, locate the nefarious Collector, and ultimately destroy the terrible metal monster once and for all!

The level itself puts very little emphasis on combat, as I feel that LBP is over-saturated with far too many "neon facotry shoot-em-up" type levels. I'm attempting to branch out from many of the generic levels in this genre that currently populate LBP, and produce a level that is original enough to get noticed. Cold Clockwork is primarily platforming, with heavy emphasis on puzzle solving, environmental manipulation, and exploration...

Many of the puzzles involve the manipulation of various pieces of machinery found aboard the war machine, including cranes, conveyor belts, ion cannons, and even nuclear reactors...

The level currently supports 1-4 player co-op, and contains a few puzzles tailored for each group number. The level also contains enough sticker-switches, hidden objects, secret areas, and easter eggs to warrant several replays...

Due to the high amount of graphical fidelity and complexity of my level, I'm currently debating splitting it up between two separate chapters. While doing this while give me the ability to place all my ideas into the series without having to make any cuts, I also feel that this breaks the feel of "continuity" found in a level...

(right around my birthday, yay!)

If I decide to split the level pack into two separate parts, then the pack will most likely be delayed to early-July

SCREENSHOTS OF THE PROTOTYPE ARE COMING SOON

Will update this thread later this week (most likely Friday)

Sounds pretty sweet Do you need testers for this? I'm game if you do

I'm kinda confused as to your release date and how far this is though... is this just in the idea stage at the moment? or is it nearing completion? or somewhere in between?

Either way, lookin forward to it.

Didn't the collector turn over a new leaf? Can't it be his brother?2009-05-26 17:26:00

The first part of the level is 80% done at the moment...

I'm planning on making it into two parts.

No, I don't need testers, I test my own levels very diligently on my own, and use my RL friends to do focus testing.

Didn't the collector turn over a new leaf? Can't it be his brother?

As far as storyline continuation goes, the events of Cold Clockwork take place between the Indian chapter, and the Russian chapter...

It doesn't really matter though, I was originally planning to use a different villain for the role originally. Then I decided to change it to a character that was universally recognizable

Well I wish you luck in finishing this! Its sounds great and I hope it lives up to what you are aiming for.

If you're looking for ideas for names you could try The Collectors Airship, or A Clockwork Airship, or The Sky Garden?... But Cold Clockwork works just fine

It'd be nice if you could post some photo's though.
