Header Submission - Round 2!
Archive: 42 posts
Welcome to the second round of Header Submissions. We're opening up submissions once again, so you can create your own headers for the site! We are providing a huge .zip (http://www.mediafire.com/?ymgomothegw) containing 300+ high-definition screenshots, all of which were taken directly from levels that have been posted in the Showcase! (download .zip (http://www.mediafire.com/?ymgomothegw)) First Steps Make sure you've installed Adobe Photoshop(Free 30 Day Trial (http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?loc=en&promoid=EBYEU&product=photoshop), Windows & Mac) or GIMP (Windows (http://www.gimp.org/downloads/), Mac (http://www.gimp.org/macintosh/)). Photoshop is preferred, but it is very resource-heavy and the full version is not free. GIMP is free, light, and can be installed on both major Operating Systems. GIMP lacks a few nice features that Photoshop has, but nothing absolutely necessary. You must download one of the.psd files. Links are located in the application-specific instructions below. Beginning a New Header As mentioned above, we are offering an extensive (300+) directory (http://www.mediafire.com/?ymgomothegw) of high-definition images for you to use in these headers. All of these images have been taken from levels made by our members, so you might even end up seeing your favorite level as a header! Download and open the photoshop_header-base.psd (http://www.mediafire.com/?wmowjg5gnnt) file. Expand the "your content below this" folder in the "layers" window. Copy and Paste or Insert your content into "your content below this". Position it to your liking. Make sure the layer itself is positioned above the "your content above this" layer. You could stop here, or you could customize the logo type and location. I'll show you how to do so if you're interested: Expand the "choose one logo" folder - once again, in the "layers" window. If you want to use a predefined location, expand the "presets" folder. If you want to resize and reposition the logo to fit the image you are using, expand the "custom position" folder. The "presets" folder contains 4 pre-aligned logos. Just toggle the visibility (click the "eye") of the one you want to use (be sure to toggle off the others so you don't have multiple logos on the screen). The "custom position" folder contains one large, 2D version of the logo. Feel free to resize and move as needed. Once you've decided you're happy with it, go File > Save As. Use your site username as the filename, and choose .jpg as the filetype. Please note: if you make more than one header, name them [username], [username]1, [username]2, etc. Download and open the gimp_header-base.psd (http://www.mediafire.com/?bktojmmu3em) file. Select the "your content above this" layer in the "layers" window. Make sure your content is saved on your hard drive, then go File > Open as Layer. Navigate to your content and open it up. Make sure your content is positioned above the "your content above this" layer and below the "your content below this" layer. Position and resize this new layer as you like. Note: Any layer with (x) in its name is crucial and should not be touched. Logo presets are a slight exception: you may toggle their visibility (by clicking the "eye"), but do not move or resize them in any way. You could stop here, or you could customize the logo type and location. I'll show you how to do so if you're interested: There are 4 "logo presets" and a large "custom logo". Toggle the visibility of the one you prefer and make sure all other logo layers are toggled off. You are free to resize and move the "custom logo", but leave the presets alone if you decide to use them. Once you've decided on a logo and you're happy with your header, go File > Save as. Expand the "Select FileType" section and select "JPEG Image". Enter your site username as the filename, then click "Save". Please note: if you make more than one header, name them [username], [username]1, [username]2, etc. It should ask you to export the file - click "Export". In the next window that appears, expand "Advanced Options" and ensure that "Subsampling" is set to "1x1,1x1,1x1 (best quality)". Once it is, click "Save". Submission Guidelines You may submit as many as you'd like. Upload it to an image hosting site like ImageShack (http://www.imageshack.us/)or Photobucket (http://photobucket.com/). Please ensure the image is not automatically resized. If the image is not 796x187px, you've done something wrong. Post the headers you've made in a reply to this thread. We will scan this thread and add as many headers as we can, but don't expect that we'll add everything - quality is a factor. There is no reward for participating. However, if we pick one of yours, it will be up for the world to see, so make a few! There is no set deadline. We will close submissions once we're happy with the headers we've picked. | 2009-05-25 00:52:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |
Woot, glad they are getting put to good use. =D I spent ages trying to get those pics as crystal quality as they could get. Can't wait to see what the outcome is like. Good luck everyone! | 2009-05-25 02:02:00 Author: DanC Posts: 433 |

im using my ps3 and i cant download from media fire... can i find these photos elsewhere? I'm uploading them to an alternate file host right now (FileFactory) - that should work for PS3 users. Although, how are you planning on editing them? Will you be moving them to a PC? EDIT: Here's some alternate download links - let me know if they work or not: LBPC_Pics.zip (http://www.filefactory.com/file/ag193h2/n/LBPC_Pics_zip) gimp_header-base.psd (http://www.filefactory.com/file/ag19208/n/gimp_header-base_psd) photoshop_header-base.psd (http://www.filefactory.com/file/ag193h4/n/photoshop_header-base_psd) | 2009-05-25 02:54:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |
Hey CC, What are the rules on adding stuff to the pics outside of the obvious logo? | 2009-05-25 06:06:00 Author: Zwollie Posts: 2173 |

im using GIMP on my ancient dial up computer, i use wireless connection and am too cheap to upgrade my piece of crap pc EDIT: oh and your LBPPics.zip works but is WAY too big... my ps3 got to about 7% and then said there was an error. maybe you could cut down the sizes? | 2009-05-25 06:23:00 Author: Noremac469 Posts: 143 |

Well, it's not that big - it's only about 64MBs, which, considering the number of HD images, is fairly conservative. There's not much else I can do. Hey CC, What are the rules on adding stuff to the pics outside of the obvious logo? Be as creative as you want. If it looks good, it will be added. This is funzors! (Click thumbnails for bigger images, foo!) http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k268/I_Clavdivs/Headers/th_Morrinn01.jpg (http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k268/I_Clavdivs/Headers/Morrinn01.jpg) http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k268/I_Clavdivs/Headers/th_Morrinn03.jpg (http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k268/I_Clavdivs/Headers/Morrinn03.jpg) http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k268/I_Clavdivs/Headers/th_Morrinn04.jpg (http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k268/I_Clavdivs/Headers/Morrinn04.jpg) They're not great, but I had some fun making these =) I really like this one: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k268/I_Clavdivs/Headers/th_Morrinn02.jpg (http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k268/I_Clavdivs/Headers/Morrinn02.jpg) However (you're using GIMP?), you didn't save with "Subsampling" set to "1x1,1x1,1x1 (best quality)". The LBPCentral logo gets blurry (as you can see in your header) if you don't configure it correctly. Would you be willing to re-do it with this setting fixed? | 2009-05-25 07:06:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |
Wow, I haven't posted in a while. I guess I haven't played LBP in a while, though. I looked at all the great images you guys took, and I just had to make some. I realize not all of them will make it in, but there was just so many images to choose from! Curses. Yes, I'm using GIMP but I didn't bother backing up the .xcf files before converting them (I really have to start doing that). I'll see what I can do and provide better quality next time. | 2009-05-25 07:19:00 Author: Morrinn3 Posts: 493 |

I wish PS worked with Linux... Oh well, I quickly made these in GIMP, here they are! (Yeah, I know... It might work with Wine, But I already have GIMP installed.) | 2009-05-25 22:47:00 Author: tjb0607 Posts: 1054 |
I wish PS worked with Linux... Oh well, I quickly made these in GIMP, here they are! (Yeah, I know... It might work with Wine, But I already have GIMP installed.) As I mentioned to Morrin3, GIMP works fine, but you didn't save with "Subsampling" set to "1x1,1x1,1x1 (best quality)". The instructions in the spoiler tags (first post) mentioned that. You'll have to re-do them with the correct settings before I can accept any of them. | 2009-05-26 00:26:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |

I'm trying to get a few of these together - finding the time is the problem. Just wanted to ask a quick question - are we limited to the photos in the pack we downloaded or can we use other images as long as they are from the fankit or from levels from LBPC members? | 2009-06-04 02:22:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
