Image Import Tool TEASED! (New Stuff)

Archive: 65 posts

http://www.ps3attitude.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/1zegrc1.jpg

We spoke to Alex Evans himself and this is precisely what he told us: ?the work is done on the tool, and it just needs to go through QA and then certification.?

With all this evidence stacking up you may be thinking ?Why the conspiracy??. With images now floating around the ?net of the new tool, why would Sony deny it is coming?

Let?s not forget the facts: Alex Evans might be a genius in terms of game design but announcements regarding updates for LittleBigPlanet will also need ratification from SCEE and the other Sony corporation entities.

It's quite possible that Sony did not want this information released so close to a holiday season when some people might be buying the PS Eye purely for the ability to enhance their LittleBigPlanet level creating experience. And, for the record, we don't blame them. They have a business to run and such new information may impact sales of the (fantastic, and we?re not just saying this for the sake of it) PS Eye.

The tool has to go through QA and certification. What if it fails QA? What if Sony can?t certify it for release?

Until an official release date is announced we would like to close this with a simple note: just because something is denied, it doesn?t mean it's not happening. And just because something exists, it doesn?t mean it will ever be released.

****. That's going to take months

But at least we know it's in the works.
I hope there is support for an alpha channel in the stickers.

Glad to finally hear that there's an Image Import tool, from the source

It's funny how Playstation denied the tool so people could buy more PS Eyes 0.0

This would be awesome, but again this is an old pic and news check the date out on the top of the article is says: Submitted by Brodiesan on Wednesday, 5 November 2008...

We have done this pic and news before guys, don't want to be a downer but it seems like its taking a long time in QA and we have 2 other threads on this same picture???

P.S. Sorry for sounding mean but I thought we would have a definite date and then i see its just the same news as months ago.

Now I fully understand why Mm won the Studio of The Year award at GDC 08

This is superb news beyond compare, the only possible thing that Mm can put in next, is the removal of the "profile is too large" error message

It's for this reason that I cannot store any stickers I receive, and cannot keep the objects I collect

Please let this happen soon. I've been asking for this tool for months. It's always seemed crazy to me that we can export photos from the game to PS3 but not the other way round which is much more important.

I have to agree with Noremac too. I don't know what sort of PSEye you've got ChocolateBox but mine is the biggest pile of crap ever. It's never taken a decent picture since the day I wasted my money on it and I wish I had taken it straight back for a refund.

Don't suck up to Sony by saying it's great. It isn't,never has been and never will be. If all Sony products were as bad as the PSEye I wouldn't buy anything of theirs ever again.

Sorry if you don't like that but I always speak my mind and tell the truth. I never suck up to anyone.

Yeah, i remember seeing this a long time ago as well, in many places too, and its been denied already, so we're not getting it, not anytime soon at least.

It just sounds like trouble. I just imagine problems with content people will use.

The good thing will be the quality since the PS Eye is always blurry and not many like or use it.

Can't decide if I like the idea or not....I'm fine without it in the game though.

The only thing holding Media Molecule back is Sony's wanting to sell more Playstation Eye Cameras. I mean, think about it, almost every single person who has ever played LittleBigPlanet would kill to get their hands on an Image Import Tool. Yeah, some might abuse it and perhaps choose to place inappropriate stickers in their levels which would then would probably be good griefed immediately and perhaps further measures would be taken.

But think about how much it would help. I'm pretty sure Media Molecule is dying to get an Image Import Tool into the hands of their fans...They just have to go through Sony to give it to them...

I can think of the bad things people could do but they can do that anyway...

so that shouldnt be a problem..

This will create amazing levels.

An alpha channel compatible importer is what this Will be. as you see in the SS that there developing a meerkat level and that they would need to have alpha to make the relevant stickers.

Aren't they one and the same thing ? I never heard anything about there being 2 different ones. If there are I don't know which mine is. I just thought it was the one and only official Sony camera with a microphone built in.

Anyway the one I am using with the PS3 is the top one and it's still rubbish. The sooner this image import tool comes out the better. I can then consign this to the bin where it belongs.

If it took pictures like the ones you have posted then it wouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for the info.

Nah. For a feature like this i'd say 2 months. Debugging a whole game can be done in 2-3 months. You need to give 2-3 weeks for approval after the debug process.

The problem with the image import is elsewhere. It's not released probably because Sony doesn't want to. Probably they would have needed to reprint the game with a higher rating. Maybe they didn't sort out the possible copyright issues an image import tool would create.

Especially for the land of the suing (America), it's extremly complicated to have such thing as an image import in a videogame. Don't even start to ask yourself why NO game has it before LBP.

They probably focused on other features for the game. If there was no problem with image import we would already have it now.

Yeah but it really really suck with the cam. That's probably why they let it in the game and at the same time it gives an excuse to sell us that useless peripheral. Oh well, I suppose they need to recoup its devellopement

Also with the sticker cutter coming, we will be able to make stickers just like the official ones. :O

Wait, where did you hear this?

There's gonna be a hell of a lotta good grief'd levels if/when this tool comes out.

Actually the numbers might not increase at all. If you think about it, it's a lot quicker and easier to take obscene pictures with the Eye that using a computer to import images to a flash drive to copy to the PS3. But of course, all naughty pictures won't be of that kind.

I hope there is support for an alpha channel in the stickers.

This is a must. It would also be nice to have multiple levels of alpha for semitransparent shading. Actually, I found a gray and white checker pattern that's used as alpha in the game. If you want me to start a thread on it, let me know. I'll think about it and possibly disclose more details.

Mine is the biggest pile of crap ever. It's never taken a decent picture since the day I wasted my money on it and I wish I had taken it straight back for a refund. Don't suck up to Sony by saying it's great. It isn't,never has been and never will be.

A very good point, mistervista. Specs wise the PS Eye isn't any different than the EyeToy other than having 6 microphones. And the EyeToy wasn't that impressive to begin with. USB cameras would be capable of so much more if they were just built for it.

Thanks for helping me dodge a ?60 bullet!

60 pounds?! Holy cow, that's nearly equivalent to $120 in the US! We only pay around $40 or ?20 for our PS Eyes.

fine then ill just make 100mb 10x10 images .. lol

Lol, that would be funny. It's also very possible but lining up all the images seamlessly would be time-consuming and nearly impossible.

An alpha channel compatible importer is what this Will be. as you see in the SS that there developing a meerkat level and that they would need to have alpha to make the relevant stickers.

The SS? Also another piece of news I somehow managed to miss.

one issue with import is probably cloning the stickers that Mm are trying to sell

A very good point Dexiro. Someone could, for example, slap down a mini-pack sticker, take a picture of it, export the image, re-import it, and use it as a prize. MM might write code to detect this and disallow it, but the effort would be far from worth it and the financial loss for MM would be miniscule. Apparently drawing 70 stickers in a $3.99 mini-pack with other content probably equates to less than 2 cents per sticker.

You won't be able to cut out stickers or image you import unless they create a tool for it. The tool they announced is a tool that will cut out MATERIALS all around your sticker. It's just a time saver and pretty useless update if you ask me.

audio importing.

that will never happen for two reasons:

1- massive file sizes = more bandwidth stress

2- copyright

Image importing isn't as much as a problem as audio importing

I think Licensing with audio is taken much more seriously than it is with images, I can't be bothered to explain why though
Among other reasons it's because music is sold, while images are usually for free

I can't wait!!!

Yeah, Audio Importing would be TOTALLY against copyright law in MANY levels, 99.9% of songs are under copyright, and you couldn't even good grief the audio...

Regarding audio what this game need is some more sound samples and a tracker-like mode where you could simply make songs. Then you save it in those radios and you put them in the levels.

I would rebuy a copy of LBP just for the hell of it since this update would be historically awesome.

You could take bad pictures just as easily if not easier with the ps eye, so I don't think there'll be that much of a change in inappropriate pictures once this tool comes out.

As for the sticker cutter, it doesn't shape stickers, it shapes a material into the shape of a sticker. So you'd have to use one of MM's stickers.

Audio importer? Not happening. Too much trouble can come from it. Maybe if it were MIDI files or something, that'd be one thing.

I don't know if I'd call any feature that saves us time a "useless update." As much as I hate to sound cliche, all that time wasted clipping around stickers adds up in the long run.

If you ask me, they've got a lot more work that they need to do, past this feature, to make the game more convenient and user friendly.

Let's get real. This isn't happening. I said it last year and I'm saying it this year: image importing is something that has way too many problems for it to happen.
