Arabian Adventure***SPOTLIGHTE*******

Archive: 20 posts

This is a level I made for my best friend on LBP ( greenchampion ). He made a little level about me being kidnapped and asked me to do one for him so this is my offering.

Don't be put off by the personal thing because I have tried to make a level that is also appealing to anyone in it's own right. A tricky compromise but I think it's worked out ok and would appreciate your thoughts.

I have also carried on my usual tradition of trying to make all my own custom objects and original ideas which I hope you like. I'm particularly fond of the 'sidewinder' snake and the snake in a basket. Try throwing that 'sidewinder' around and then see if it still works when you right it again!!

It also includes my first ever boss albeit a very simple one because I haven't learnt how to do complex stuff yet. I think it's a pretty good idea though that one of the expert creators may be able to improve on.

Take a look at some pics to whet your appetite.

Haha, that was a great level!

The whole level had a very cute feel, and that was GREAT! I loved pretty much all of it. The characters all looked cool, and had the same cute feel. I loved how you put the rubies on top of the point bubbles to fit the rest of the theme! The enemies and platforming was all great, and good looking, and the final boss was fun, with a little bit of challenge, that is perfect for a boss.

There were only a couple of things that could be improved; There is a part were the 'Arab' guy is in three spots on your screen under a tent. This looks like he was cloned. Maybe make all the speech bubbles come from one, and delete the others. When you have to use the spinning spheres to get up, the electricity gets quite annoying. Maybe switch them to fire, to make it a bit easier, and less annoying.

Overall it was a great level, and I can bet your friend will like/liked the level!

5 stars and hearted

Oh, F4F, could you leave me some feedback on my 'Bouncing Balls - Survival Challenge' level? Thanks!

Also, I really should add you on PSN

I really enjoyed this one. Really nice visuals, nice cute story, nice mechanics. This is actually my favorite of all of your levels at this point.

Loved the magic carpet stuff, and the boss was killer.

Couple things:

The level really took a long time to kick into gear. The whole slow riding a camel on the desert while periodically stopping to squash a bug started to make me think the level was a slow walkthrough.

I personally started really enjoying it at the ride on the head of the snake part. I'll mention to you what I've mentioned to a number of other creators - always give the player something fun to do. Even if you skatter a few "grab a hold of something and throw them up in the air" type of things that match the theme of the level, it's those touches that keep the player engaged.

Regardless, great level. I gave it 4 stars, but with a more exciting first half would have been 5. Nice job!

Really enjoyed this one. Like ccubbage said it started off slow, but once it got going it was really fun. The visuals were excellent all the way through. I like your art style on this one. Also your boss looked amazing! Very nice!2009-05-24 03:00:00

Checked this one out and I was pretty impressed. Nice characters and a decent, if a bit challenging, boss.

Pros:
+The design of the characters
+The different challenges
+The story was both beleivable and pretty fun
+The camel ride
+Ruby score bubbles
+The boss battle

Cons:
-Right near the end of the level, after the boss battle and just before I got to the guy I was meant to rescue, I fell through the level onto an earlier section
-Too many HUGE ruby score bubbles

Overall though a 4 stars and a "Cute" tag. Very nice level

Thanks Coxy, I'll take a look at that and see what it is and if I can fix it.

UPDATE : I just made a few changes guys. Added some small changes at the start in the camel area, removed some big bubbles, changed electric on wheels to fire, removed 2 arabs at the flying carpet stall and adjusted magic mouths and hopefully fixed the hole that Coxy fell through.

If you would like to test it again sometime and re-evaluate that would be much appreciated thanks.

BTW I have played your F4F levels but not sure about the protocol. Do I leave feedback here or on another thread somewhere ?

Cute level! Checked it out last night and I have to say I love the architectural details you put in. Cool characters and the snake charmer is genius. Loved the musical choice there too. The boss fight is really interesting and I do love the magic carpets!

A few other posters mentioned some of the things that could use a little work imo. The pace at the front of the level, spots where there isn't much to do but walk, HUGE rubies The only other thing I'd recommend is the lighting is pretty static throughout the whole thing. Could you add a few more lights for dramatic impace in either the boss area or in some of the other platforming areas? It's totally your decision - don't do it just because it's my personal preference. I just think it's a little flat in terms of lighting.

Overall I really did like the level. It's fun and has a charm to it that made me smile. I rated it 4 stars and hearted it! Thanks for sharing it

You know what would be cool during the camel ride?..... BIG VULTURES ATTACHED TO HIDDEN WINCHES FLYING UP AND DOWN THAT YOU GRAB ONTO AND SWING AROUND WILDLY GRABBING POINT BUBBLES... then get back on the camel and lumber on.

Or.... a switch that SHOOTS THE CAMEL AT ROCKET CHEETAH SPEED ACROSS THE DESERT!!!

Preferably suggestion 1.

LOL at that one CC. I'm not desperate enough to stoop to that level ( YET ).

BTW I updated it in several areas ( see previous post above for details ) a few hours ago.

If you haven't seen the updated version yet I'm hoping you like my 'sidewinder' snakes in the camel area.

Hey,just played your level.

Pros
-Funny character design, little arab guy was funny
-Nice architechual design, the top on some on those building looked the part.
-Liked the gems as bubbles, and the snake charmer was cool.
cons
-IMO it was far too easy until the boss, and then i still only died once on a random snake. The obstacles werent really trying to kill you, add a little challenge maybe?
-I thought the place that the scoreboard was in looked awesome, but then there was a waterfall infront of the scoreboard. I would like to see the scoreboard after a level, its useful.
Nice job, 4 stars.

Thanks. I am considering taking the waterfall out for that very reason, I'm just worried about everything else falling apart if i do because I made all that section as 1 object.
I'll bite the bullet sometime soon though and see what happens.

I'll get round to playing your level asap and will leave feedback in that thread.

Pretty cool level. The character designs and architecture are great, and I loved the final boss. I wasn't a big fan of the slow camel ride, though.

I gave it 5 stars and a 'great' tag.

I thought the place that the scoreboard was in looked awesome, but then there was a waterfall infront of the scoreboard. I would like to see the scoreboard after a level, its useful.

Took your advice on that and have now deleted the waterfall. I think I managed it without anything falling apart. I played it before republishing of course and it seemed ok but if anyone spots anything I missed please let me know.

Thanks.

just played through this.

Love the personal touch involving your friend btw haha.

I liked it to be frank! Its a platformer and reminded me heavily of the 1st level in Aladdin on the 16 bit consoles haha! good thing i can assure you.

As its a straight out platformer, i don't see much wrong with it....well, if im nit picking, the jars you can jump into are sometimes difficult to jump out. Not an annoyance though.

Loved the guy with the snake, great touch.

it was an all round triumph for an arabian platform adventure! from the simple jewel pin on the bubbles, to the materials used, right down to the genie boss on a magic carpet, great.

Im not going to go off and say that it offers nothing new etc because i just like general platforming once in awhile!

Just played your level, and I'm feeling the heat right away (good choice of light/color)

- Cool humor with the shop-keepers.
- The snake-guy was great (especially with the matching flute-music).
- The checkpoints (at the start, not the carpet-checkpoints) was very well made. (How, btw?)

I rated 4*, cute-tag and a heart.

(Could you F4F the level you have beta-tested, which is now public?)

Easy Peasy, just stuck the gem decoration on the checkpoint.

I'll get on to leaving feedback on yours asap. Sorry I forgot which I'd left and which I hadn't. I'll play it again to refresh my memory.
