Jelly

So, I've been dreaming of "Jelly"! A new material type with wobbly, bouncy, translucent jelly like properties. (Anybody here played Robocod?) I would be so psyched to see something like this be introduced as an alternative to piston based springboards. What do y'all think? | 2009-05-23 21:00:00 Author: Ungreth Posts: 2130 |
Jelly would be great I'm just not sure how easy it'd be to make, or how useful it'd be if it was made It'd be great to play about and experiment with, but it probably isn't worth having Mm put the effort in to make it | 2009-05-23 21:30:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
I'm thinking of something like the gelanator gel from R&C. | 2009-05-23 21:45:00 Author: ARD Posts: 4291 |
gel/jelly would be awesome. the only problem would be its interactions with the environment. would it expand upon impact, then retract when you bounce off? if so, putting it in a tight spot would make it useless. to solve that problem, they could make it not expand/retract and just act like a trampoline | 2009-05-25 00:35:00 Author: RickTheRipper Posts: 345 |
Now that's a good idea! It would be great in many circumstances, you could even make a jelly-themed level! | 2009-05-25 19:17:00 Author: lk9988 Posts: 1077 |
Will sacks be able to eat said jelly? I'd imagine proper flex would be a 'mare to fit into the physics. Any bouncy material would be nice, just something with a high coefficient of restitution and that could be done easilly. | 2009-05-25 19:35:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
Remember the jelly in Yoshi's Story? | 2009-05-27 21:08:00 Author: Tyler Posts: 663 |
Robocod had the most awesome jelly level ever. The floor was made of orange jelly, but so was the celing, so you basically ricocheted at high speed through the level...upside down! A truly brain melting experience when played under the influence of hallucinogenic mushrooms, believe me... BTW, just to avoid any confusion, what I refer to as jelly is actually what those of you from the US would refer to as jell-o, and not what we in the UK would refer to as jam. | 2009-05-27 21:39:00 Author: Ungreth Posts: 2130 |
Sounds good, it would be awesome to play around with! As Dexiro said, it could be a little useless. | 2009-05-27 21:43:00 Author: olit123 Posts: 1341 |
I figured you meant the US equivalent of jell-o, it isn't hard to deduce... | 2009-05-27 21:44:00 Author: Theap Pleman Posts: 670 |
Sounds good, it would be awesome to play around with! As Dexiro said, it could be a little useless. I don't know... how about the option to change the viscosity of the jelly? Then you could sink into it and die, like a trap. However if it isn't viscous then it will be bouncy, leaving more ideas open - a food themed level, a cave level with slime, heck, I bet it would be awesome to make enemies with it. | 2009-05-28 07:57:00 Author: Breezy-The-Pro Posts: 134 |
- a food themed level, a cave level with slime, heck, I bet it would be awesome to make enemies with it. There aren't many uses for it on top of those ideas And for the amount of effort that'd take to make, it's really not worth it If it's going to be hard to pull off, then it needs a potential use in every level. Like water will be hard to pull off but that could be used in pretty much every level, so that's why it's being developed | 2009-05-28 13:34:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
This would be awesome if they could implement it. 1. I think this will take a long time for Mm to perfect and if they are still having trouble to pull off the ice, I'm pretty sure slime will be out of the question. 2. Has anyone ever considered that these things may also be really hard on the engine? The framerate already freaks out when you put some spotlights next to each other. I would love it but I just don't see liquids happening anytime soon. | 2009-05-28 13:50:00 Author: Zwollie Posts: 2173 |

Personally Jell-o is very appealing to me... first off, it would be great fun... bouncy material is needed! I think bouncy Jello is a very LBP idea. As far as limited uses go... are you kidding me? Think of all the levels you've played and now substitute all the uses of "glass as an obstacle" and insert Jello. Doesn't seem limited to me, now replace all the little connecting; lifts, hoist, and jetpacks, you've played with a timed 2x jello rebound bounce. Imagine jello walls... How about a jello ceiling that falls threatening to smother poor sackboy... I can feel the muddied force- feedback now! | 2009-05-28 15:00:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |
Jelly would be really cool to use as water, for example. It would fit LBP very well. | 2009-05-28 15:35:00 Author: jakpe Posts: 84 |

You have some good points/ideas there, but how about a super, mega awesome, multiplayer, super, duper jelly-floored-and-walled paintball arena! | 2009-05-29 22:21:00 Author: lk9988 Posts: 1077 |
...how about a super, mega awesome, multiplayer, super, duper jelly-floored-and-walled paintball arena! It never occurred to me... yes you are right! paintballs would be able to bounce off one adjacent angle... the ricochet-shot! How cool would that be jello-haters? | 2009-06-02 03:13:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |

I think a nice way to add jelly would be to make a squishy Loco Roco type material Would that be laggy though? It's the best way i can think to make it anyway | 2009-06-05 00:35:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
Yoshi's Island is awesome. I like pudding more than jello. | 2009-06-05 03:01:00 Author: Unknown User |
I wanted to make a thread about Jelly material D: lol.. Jelly would be awesome.. really funny!! | 2010-04-19 04:09:00 Author: Kaboom Posts: 172 |
Oi! Jelly was my idea! https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=11846-Jelly&highlight=jelly I demand credit for the concept! | 2010-04-19 08:45:00 Author: Ungreth Posts: 2130 |
Isn't Little Big Planet all about being fun and creative? Jelly sounds like it would be packed full of fun and creativity If you're creative, you could find a ton a ways to use it in levels! The people saying that this wouldn't be useful are probably just too used to making machinery and stuff like that in LBP (not to be accusing of anyone...) I think it's a great idea and I wish we had something like this now | 2010-04-20 03:25:00 Author: Fancy_Zombie Posts: 226 |
Actually, I think this idea has legs. Texture wise - it would be a mix of glass and water - Physics wise a mix between elastic rope and cardboard. Give it a slider bar to control the viscocity (how gelatenous/bouncy/stretchy it is) ; Would make for some very interesting levels I think. | 2010-04-21 18:23:00 Author: Macnme Posts: 1970 |
I've always wanted to see gelatonium in Ratchet and Clank used a bit more, it was such an interesting material. Just like real gelatin, it'd be so much fun just to play with it, poking it, etc lol. If it didn't reform to the environment like a liquid it probably wouldn't take too much to process, like, it's in a set area, but wobbles when things hit it? Anyways, terrific fun idea. | 2010-06-28 02:56:00 Author: Avacadolord Posts: 22 |
And if you hit it hard enough you go inside and can swim around | 2010-06-28 03:08:00 Author: Tyler Posts: 663 |
Jelly would be amazing along with other food-like materials. Maybe sackboy could also have an enhancement to eat certain materials that you tweak and make edible. I could see a happy sackboy with his tongue out eating lots of green jell-o or jelly. | 2010-06-30 22:38:00 Author: Dragonvarsity Posts: 5208 |
not even string has the wobbly physics. | 2010-07-01 00:56:00 Author: tjb0607 Posts: 1054 |
That be cool. JELLY!!! | 2010-07-03 18:41:00 Author: Unknown User |
They have slime in LBP2, I've never seen it but Gevurah has talked about it, you can emit it if you want. So bring on the Yoshi's Island levels! | 2010-07-03 20:28:00 Author: CYBERSNAKE Posts: 280 |
cool idea but i think they will add it in LBP2...hopefully... | 2010-07-03 22:28:00 Author: SackBoy98 Posts: 588 |
If you can choose colour and green is an option (which it probably is) I predict there will be a lot of bugger levels. I thought about this a little while ago, and when I saw this thread I thought "heey, just what I was looking for" I wondered if you could stick the jelly at certain places, with bolts for an example, while the material will not be glued to anything. The jelly will stretch between the bolts. Imagine you have to pieces of cardboard, and then have some jelly stretching across these two pieces. You bolt the two pieces with the jelly, each with one bolt. Then you start pulling these cardboard pieces away from each other... And the Jelly stretches... Depending on it's density, it will pull harder and harder the longer it is stretched, until whatever is pulling does not have force. If one of the cardboard pieces are released it is flung back like a chicken being pulled into the slaughter house, only to dart out under the *exit* sign. | 2010-07-07 20:46:00 Author: moonwire Posts: 1627 |

If you can choose colour and green is an option (which it probably is) I predict there will be a lot of bugger levels. I believe you mean booger levels. Bugger involves a completely different part of the body and is really not suitable for LBP. | 2010-07-28 09:01:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
@Rabid_Coot: Thank you, know I know why that word is censored in LBP. *D'oh* | 2010-07-31 11:40:00 Author: moonwire Posts: 1627 |
Jelleh make your brain go silleeh! anyway, it would be fun to be jumping around atop of jelly like not having a care in the word... it would be lbp like and fun to see the next "Kidy survival challange" that they come up with eg: SUPA REEL JEELLEH BOUNCE WIF REeL WATORS BOMBS AND SHARKS IN TEH JELLEH! PLAY NOA H4H! >.< yes, you can have to much of a good thing... | 2010-08-04 11:16:00 Author: huntedstorm Posts: 488 |

Anyway, Having jelly is a welcome feature for me, as long as it can be put into any sack ocupyable layer and isnt extremely long like water! | 2010-08-04 19:00:00 Author: grayspence Posts: 1990 |

The idea is good but as rtm223 quoted;" it would be a mare on the engine". I am aware that people in the world of LBP are constantly pushing boundaries on detail effects ect. But jelly, Not yet. | 2010-08-14 01:42:00 Author: AssassinatorRFC Posts: 715 |
Well, seing the LBP 2 adventure trailer for now it is quite the easier than expected. In my opinion they look like snowballs that glues themselves to anything they hit, so no jelleh. Just goo. Meh schtell wantz Jelleh. | 2010-08-14 19:09:00 Author: moonwire Posts: 1627 |
