"Ephemeral Dream" Music Level

Archive: 32 posts

Yes, another one!

This was a guitar instrumental I composed purely for fun, although I did edit it slightly whilst making the music level for it. I'm not sure how many of you listen to Opeth, but if you've heard their song "Atonement" off their Ghost Reveries album, you should know what angle I'm getting at here. If not, still have a listen, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Thanks to the switch-o-maniac Johnrulz77 (John), this will soon be available in a level. This is the only video I have of the level at the moment, made during its development stages so if you play the published version now, you should be able to see a difference in design and some timing adjustments. Enjoy and please leave your feedback here!

Okay...

That was another great music level, Korn!!
Better then the first in my humble opinion.

Not much to add to that really
Well done, 5 stars and a heart.

Thank you Z! I had to republish it because of some timing slips so I think the level may no longer be on your hearted list =( Even so, I've made a lot of design tweaks and added some pathetic fallacy (a storm being added in the middle eight) which you may like ^^*2009-05-22 21:09:00

I know! Some H4Hing eight year old (as I found out) thought it was hilarious to go and give the level two stars. So I removed the level because of that as well. If it doesn't get at least four stars the first time, I always edit heavily and try again, I don't know why...

I really liked it, most people who make music levels just go on ahead and make the music but forget to make the space as beautiful as the music piece itself, which ruins the experience. You, on the other hand, made it look as good as it sounded, which is great. 4 starred, tagged funky! F4F: The Cave Ruins2009-05-23 00:26:00

Hey, another good composition from korndawwg. I also liked this better than the other one.Great work!!! You said for a laugh play it backwards so I played it backwards while jumping. Pretty funny.2009-05-23 02:44:00

This level hit the spot last night... I was kind of tired from playing games half the day and just holding the right on the stick and walking was really nice. Loved the music! Nice groove.

Ok... I always leave suggestions, and since it's difficult to think of anything wrong here from a music perspective (the notes were on tune):

Maybe a switch that pushes you really fast? (fast foward button!)

Maybe a challenge mode? (switch that drops a bunch of point bubbles and gives you fire logs to jump over!!!)

Just kidding... great job!

I'm glad it went easy on the hand, and hopefully easier on the ears. I appreciate your feedback, thank you!

Hey, another good composition from korndawwg. I also liked this better than the other one.Great work!!! You said for a laugh play it backwards so I played it backwards while jumping. Pretty funny. That's why I prefer the player proximity method to trigger the speakers, it gives the player a lot more freedom, which is basically what the game is all about. Freedom. Plus I like to experiment with my music, play it slow, fast, backwards, upside down, inside out and whatnot...

And please, save your fingers from typing my full name and just cal me Korn, or Dawwg, or KD, whatever

I thought I may as well make the most out of it and make it look decent, that's another reason why I dislike using a car with magnetic keys, or making the speakers visible. Looks ugly, but I'm glad you think it looks as good as the music sounds, thank you! I'll get back to you on your F4F right now.

Thank you too Burn (BUUUUUURN!) ... (Sorry, had to be done). Nice to know I'm improving, I feel better with this piece as well since it is actually a full song (well, I did take out a bit where there's supposed to be a blues solo, a shame there isn't a guitar sound sample...). Thank you again

I'm going to add a new video showing the full, published version of the level very shortly.

AANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

not to mention the little thing im going to add,

where im getting this song to play while you customize your sackboy, or run around like a physco...

*EDIT*

im done, i made an example, with a show, some obstacles, and the music "self-destructs" after you reach a certain area, so you can switch songs

btw, if you want korn, im pretty sure i can get the speed of the music to change, (like drum beats could be faster, etc) you know, you were saying you like the freedom with the player proximity, well it can still be done!

LOL I was just waiting for you to say that, I wasn't sure if I should say it in case it wasn't done yet. Yup, Johnny has come up with a fab portable tracking device for the music, so it follows you everywhere you go. Spooky...Is it Whitchcraft? Or is it just John's ability to do all the "Behind the scenes" work? Great work my friend

EDIT: New video added...

yeah, (convienent or not) the music selfdestructs after the piston hits the 950 mark, (its set to max of 999.9)

but its also dissolve so you can dissolve it at a certain limit...

ill publish the lvl soon

and with some calculations, i noticed that the device takes up like 1% of thermo, (the music takes up the other 33%)

PLUS, because the music is so thermo heavy, I ADDED a bunch of stuff, AND the thermo BARLY even moved...

btw korn, its cuz of the hundreds of wires that its thermo heavy...

so if you want to have more custom songs, try keeping them short, (with the loop repeating them)

Why do you think I asked you, "Do you want me to section some of it off?". Eh, wtf. I thought you said that you didn't want the final section?

its better than i though, but if necessary, ill make another version with the ending cutoff..

it sounds to awesome to cut it off...

*EDIT*

want me to do that to "trance" too?

Well I didn't really know that it would take up so much more thermo, trust me, I'm not the switch and tools expert, I just make and design things, and make them look pretty xD I think it will be fine, unless you want to cut it off. The final segment is missing a few notes on the final harmony anyway.

OH MY GAWD!!!!!!

GUESS WHAT!!??!?!?!?!?!

(i got 2 versions (34% thermo, full song) and (25% thermo, shortened ending)

anyway about the awesome thing...

i went into the why sacks hate space level;

its at 96/97% thermo right?

i put in the custom song, JUST to see what happens....

THE THERMO DIDNT EVEN MOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so you can add it to your lvls, ITS LITERALLY THERMO-LESS!!!!!!

just doing my job!

btw, considering it only fills 25% of the sound thermo,

im quite certain that you would be able to add a second custom song!!!!!

Played this last night and it's beautiful! I have to say I like the previous one more but that's just my musical preference and not a commentary on this level's music. I enjoyed this work too. I got the impression of a more Asian feeling to it and it has beautiful swelling sections that are very emotional.

I have to ask though - do you always compose pieces in mirror image fashion or is it just an LBP thing? It's neat and they sound really good.

5 stars and hearted this one too.

Thanks for your kind words, and I really do not mind which one you prefer, as long as you feel they're both listenable(?), I don't mind xD Thanks again for the heart.

It's neat and they sound really good.Partly both, I do it on LBP more often though because it's a lot easier, and it also gives me a chance to experiment with tunes. I like to make things backwards, upside down and inside out, etc. to kind of discover something completely new which I can work on later. You should tune in to WMSE's internet radio station on Sunday night for Planet Prog. It's a Progressive Rock/Metal show done by a very good friend of mine. He's a god in Prog music. Knows a ton of people too. Loves Porcupine Tree, Van Der Graaf Generator, Eloy, Opeth, Nightwish, and a ton of others I can't think of. He's in a band too and has been in the music scene FOREVER! I think you might like it. Just search the internet for WMSE in Milwaukee and you'll find it no problem. I think they have an iTunes station too.

if you send me the songs to get re-done,
sorry was out for the day, didnt get em, (tomorrow on my lunch break ill get the 2 of them..)

incase anyone asks questions on what i mean by "re-doing" i am re-doing the mag keys, korn added some extra notes, plus i screwed up a little on the beginning drums, (late by about a half second or so)

but you still gotta give me some recognition...
considering it worked, and the fact it was my first try...

Dude, I can't even do it I'm so crap, you're great at doing this type of stuff Also, I have made a locked and copyable version of the level, I've sent you the key as well as another key for another...Secret...Project...*COUGH* *Wink*

Wait, Opeth receive air time? Their songs are, like, 10 minutes long each. I wonder if they play any songs by Tool or A Perfect Circle, you cannot get any more progressive than them. I will check out their website later, Opeth and Porcupine Tree ftw!

The secret will be spoiled tomorrow, I'm uploading pictures and even you know a little bit about it...Just a little...I'm posting it in the Ideas and Projects...

Btw, John (if you're reading this...), how is the new PTD going? I'm guessing you should have the key to the locked level, I'll do the same for Trance later when my PSN is working...

the new idea is very simple, not P.T.D because ptd is complex, so it lags thew music...

new style is the music on a piston with a sensor switch, (set to directional)

so the piston is at the beginning, IF the music SENSE'S you, then the piston MOVES FORWARD, when it moves to far, it goes back, untill it sees you, then goes forward, etc.. so it pretty much follows you, just stays slightly ahead,

also, good news means when you die, your not in range, and it goes back to the checkpoint!

btw, all in all i can get the keys on in a hr per song, its actually quite fun watching it come together,

just the ending is a real pain,

1. i think it moved while u created, cuz i have to sorta make it as close as i can where i put the keys,

2. reason - i cant use small grid cuz its a little off on the ending.....

not really complaining, just its taking a tad longer...

anyway it'll be done in 10-15mins, i got all the setups saved...

so for any new song all i gotta do is mag keys,

then PASTE the tech, glue the music on the follower, done!

It's not unusual for Mark to play 17 minute tracks from Italian or Japanese Prog bands - time has no meaning for him... seriously. If he likes it - he plays it.2009-05-25 23:15:00

btw its done, (took a tad longer than expected but hey, (finished about an hr after post... meaning 2 hrs)

btw, theres a TAD glitch in it... - it would take a while to get working properly- but the cart that activates it, sorta flips at the end EVERY TIME,

meaning the last thing you hear from the song? (the 4 notes on top of eachother) gets repeated about 2 seconds after..

so u hear *ending part* DUHHH!............DUHHH!

sounds simple to correct but ive been at it for a while... it doesnt sound bad at all either, ill publish it, tell me what you think...
