Guys I was sceptical at first. Five minutes into the demo...yes FIVE minutes...of jumping around and you're hooked. Controls is smoooooooooooth, gameplay absolutely awesome and the animation is fluid as hell. I might buy it when I find it cheaper. Or borrow from a friend.2009-05-22 14:54:00

This game is actually... pretty freaking good!

The platforming is a lot like Assassin's Creed if you're used to it, and to be honest I feel it reacts even BETTER than assassin's creed. also the environments and combat are awesome, it's very interesting to see the desperate people dig through garbage or a group forms snapping photos of you when you're climbing something, haha

I have a small interest in the game but I was deff looking forward to Prototype more (seemed like more my type of game; complete free roaming in NYC with crazy *** powers! IDK what more you can ask for in a game!?)

But I"m going to look forward to playing this demo now

I suggest downloading the "making of" videos for the game as well. Interesting stuff. I love how the gameplay, environment, and the musical score changes depending on whether you play as a good guy or a total jerk. Definitely on my list of games to pick up.2009-05-22 20:55:00

Wow, I was going to buy this game, but my expectations were way too low. This game is absolutely amazing, it has smooth game play, and I love games that have open-world environment.

The demo wasn't short either, definitely going to buy it.

From watching videos of this game i thought it looked pretty generic and didn't see what the hype was about
My opinion has changed completly from playing the demo though

The amount of freedom you get is awesome, and the powers are really well balanced and fun to use!

definitely buying this as soon as i can

At the tanker side mission. Took two gernades, stuck two people and the rest got hit, I think it was a 5-in-1 stunt as well, but the restrain points and sticky grenade points took me all the way to at least 40.

My favorite thing about this demo is just running around. I love grinding on those cross-building cables and, right before the end, jumping and hovering. It's a personal challenge - see how far I can launch myself. Current record is 2 blocks from a building about 10 stories high or so.2009-05-23 06:41:00

From what I've seen, Prototype will probably prove to be a better game than inFamous, but that's not saying that inFamous isn't fun to play. The "electricity shooting" mechanic is surprisingly satisfying.

I love it. It reminds me of the freedom I loved from Assassin's Creed. Beautifully fluent, you can play around in it for a few hours without getting bored. A fault I saw though was the lack of varied characters. The enemies all look the same, and the hobos are all the same- on that note there are about 20 or even less of different styles of hobos.. The maps seem repetitive, with a sense of the Spiderman 3 game. They should have taken a page out of Rockstar's book and use the same varied style of different parts of the city as possible. It's a ps3 exclusive, so they had access to the 50 GB blu-ray disc, meaning they could have done more aswell. But this is only the demo, but what I've seen so far, it seems they've cut corners. I think I'll still get the game though, with the offer of the Uncharted 2 beta code.

I loved the demo. It was always a decision between Prototype or this. If Prototype doesn't have a downloadable demo, then I am going to go for inFamous.

My best score was on the Tanker Side mission where once again a 5 in 1 with only 1 sticky grenade. Everyone (Except for one guy) got restrained too which was great.

My coolest move though is one I though of. I attach a grenade to something, then do a shock thingy to send it flying in to the enemy. SO much fun.

Yeah. You start off at the beginning of a mission - if you complete it, then you can roam around as a "good" version of your character. If you begin the second mission, you become the "evil" version. If you beat the second mission, you can roam around as the "evil" version.

Played the demo twice now, it's excellent and I'm definitely going to buy it. Love eveything about it, the freedom and speed of the climbing, the speed you can build from grinding wires and then jumping and gliding and the speed of grinding the railway lines. One thing is that I really wish is that you could fly but that's asking a bit much.

The combat is great, I like the fact that it's slightly assisted in that a slightly off shot can still hit an enemy and it makes using the grenades much more effective. It really helps to keep the action flowing.

One thing I found is that the enemies, while stupid at times, are pretty accurate and if the surround you or come at you in great numbers and catch you unawares you can really be in trouble.

I injured one of the objective-givers during the demo and loved the fact that when I resuscitated her, she ran back to her post and got the yellow exclamation mark again!

The power and destruction you can cause is great and it's really highlighted by the damage you can cause to cars and the way they look and move when you blow them up or "push" them out of the way.

Can't wait to get the game and play more of the missions and especially fight some of the bosses!

To be honest, I actually wasn't too impressed with the demo. There's nothing particularly bad about it, it's just that the game doesn't really appeal to me enough to go out and buy the full version.2009-05-24 19:55:00

Well, I tried the demo last night, but it froze mid way through. It wasn't quite as smooth as what I remember Crackdown to be, but it was still fun to play. I'll likely give it another go and hope it was just some random crash.

I think I would prefer this game to Prototype, to be honest. Prototype seems a lot more gore and violence for the sake of it. I get the feeling you are less an "anti-hero" and more just a crazed nut that wants to kill everything for revenge. The only thing stopping you from being a "villian" is that the people you attack are bad as well. :S

From what little I saw of Infamous though, it felt a lot more justified in the good/bad department. It made a whole lot more sense why you would turn out to be good or bad, which is a good thing in my opinion. I'm all for games with robust morale choices.

Ya, I remember you saying you always like to be the good guy, so that makes sense you would like inFamous more. IDK for me I think it looks like Prototype will be the same if not more freedom (More super powers and driving; or at least flying.) I just am all for the bigger array of super powers and abilities.

I'm still on the fence if im going to buy inFamous, I want to but not sure if I want to spend the money on it.

I personally don't like the feel of the character and the detection. He feels extremely light and it moves/run around in some cartoonish fast way that I don't like. It's like the visuals are serious but not the feel of the game wich causes me brain farts. Also, you hang on stuff you don't really want to and sometimes you want to stick on stuff and you're not. I hope the detection is more tight in the final game.

Brain farts!!??? I guess you could say that.

I agree with you Ranger, the game is a bit to flashy and more about eye candy in a devil may cry sorta way. So much of the movements and attacks and climbing is automated that you can literally tap x to scale a huge building and often if you actually set out to climb up a complicated structure you'll end up latching onto something you didn't intend to >_>

Really not my kinda game I guess. Free-roaming mass-mindless-destruction games melt my head.

Infamous makes you want to pre-order more than Prototype it because of Uncharted 2 beta. (another very good game, loved the first one.)

I haven't followed Prototype. At all. I don't even know what it's about!

There's an Uncharted 2 beta attached to the inFamous preorder (and nothing for the Prototype preorder) but I wasn't much of a fan of Uncharted so it's not really incentive for me.

Prototype is very similar to inFamous. You play a character named Alex Mercer who knows nothing of his history or how he came to acquire his powers. He has the ability to run up walls, fly (well, not really - more like glide), throw cars/buses/tanks, and more. He can "absorb" the DNA of other people and assume their appearance, essentially becoming whoever he needs to. For example, you could kill an Army officer (the army is after you), take his appearance, then order your men to kill anyone you want to.

Here's a video showcasing pretty much everything they've revealed about the game:

that certainly sounds way more fun then the infamous demo.
and I agree with rangerzero, the character feels so light...just like orange floaty material!

the only thing I really like about the demo was the building climbing and then jumping off holding R1 or L1 to hover, can't remember the button.

tons of fun
(I still want higher buildings!)

I'm going for red faction, not infamous.

Prob isnt your type of game then idk; but if you played the infamous demo and like it im sure you'll like prototype. for me, i love free-roaming games where you get uber super powers......just too much fun. Crackdown for example, was a lot of fun but got boring fast.

Prototype is pretty much just like Crackdown BUT, a lot cooler and more powers; and an actual story line so I'm sure it's going to be A LOT better than crackdown

I just don't like games that seem to need no skill whatsoever. Prototype just seems like a "Run'N'Gun" type of game, I mean your this guy with super powers and your pretty much indestructible, sure it sounds awesome, but where is the challenge? It just seems way too easy, I literally never died in Crackdown, and if Prototype is anything like Crackdown but with more powers, then I don't see a challenge at all.

InFamous however, seems to take a more serious aspect, you can't just run into a crowd of bad guys and come out undamaged, so it takes a lot more skill, in my opinion.

I'm the complete opposite - I like games that I can roam around in aimlessly, doing whatever interests me. The open-world Spiderman games are a good example: I didn't like the gameplay or the storyline, but I played through every one so I could swing around with all of the swinging options available to me. I think I just like a game that doesn't annoy me - a game that I can play on my own terms, at my own speed, without any outside interference.

Crackdown is another good example. I loved that game for it's free-roaming fun, but I never fought anyone unless it was necessary to open up a new part of the world. I had much more fun hopping in a tire-less smart car and having a demo derby on the beach with a friend.

Well, I've pre-ordered Infamous and Red Faction after playing both their demos. I still stand behind the view that I don't think I'll really enjoy Prototype all that much. Maybe I'll be proven wrong, but I remember reading an interview with a developer and thinking that his design philosophy was just terrible in my opinion. It wasn't "wrong", it just rubbed me the wrong way as in how to achieve tasks.

I've got more to say on this Prototype vs. Infamous debate, but I think I might start a new topic on it so that we don't drift off this topic too much.
