Icehold Mountain: The First Time (0nly demo)(got pic.)
Archive: 34 posts
PSN: blizzard_cool Welcome to Icehold Mountain, the coldest mountain in the world... Do you dare to climb it, dive into it's caves, slide the most icy slides ever and much more! Story: You are John McFish, a young mountain climber known all over the world. His newest goal is to climb to the top of Icehold Mountain, which no one ever did. Gameplay: Simple fun (and hard) platforming! I might change some things in the current demo and story. I thought I should put it up here cause I'm already done with 40-50% of the level. I'm not planning to update the stage until it's done. Please leave some feedback on the current demo and tips of how to improve the final level. Thank you http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=513&pictureid=4502 More pictures are down below. | 2009-05-21 18:44:00 Author: blizzard_cool Posts: 752 |
Its looking good so far. Nice visuals, and I love the fossils in the background. You also got quite a lot in for 50% done so far. Whats your thermo like? | 2009-05-22 16:58:00 Author: GruntosUK Posts: 1754 |
Okay, so far youve done a great job with the visuals. Here are my suggestions: Near the entrance when you see the crocodile fish fossil, i think it would be better if you focused your camera on the whole fossil and not just half of it, because i was wondering what that was when i first came in. I would cover up that blue gas with something, it seemed empty. Add some stones or what not. Choose and add another material (if you can)to add some color that would contrast both the grey stone and the ice. I would take those spikes off of those electrified stones, i dont think you need them. So far great stuff and id like to see some enemies. create one or two and ill tell you what i think. And like i said, perhaps even help you with them. | 2009-05-22 17:57:00 Author: graygoose Posts: 371 |
I really enjoyed playing this, but I won't give full, detailed feedback yet - just some general suggestions. Overall, it's looking and playing very well. Lots of nice stuff in there. I'm concerned that there is a distinct lack of puzzles. I think it's a dying genre and one that would fit perfectly for you in this level. I agree with Graygooses comments about the crocodile fish fossil aswell | 2009-05-22 19:21:00 Author: Coxy224 Posts: 2645 |
Its looking good so far. Nice visuals, and I love the fossils in the background. You also got quite a lot in for 50% done so far. Whats your thermo like? Below 50%, near the tip off it. Graygoose: How should I cover them?? The fossil should stay like that cause, as you played, you get up there with the jetpack. | 2009-05-22 19:35:00 Author: blizzard_cool Posts: 752 |
You should add some lighting to. I showed you the difference it makes when I removed the global settings in one of my under construction levels. I think it would make a difference the look and atmosphere. I agree with greygoose to, that blue gas needs covering, or at least partially hiding. Youve got the start of a very good level, keep at this one. And puzzlers a dying breed Coxy, you not played my levels then? | 2009-05-22 19:59:00 Author: GruntosUK Posts: 1754 |
Gruntos levels are amazing! I played them all! | 2009-05-22 20:03:00 Author: blizzard_cool Posts: 752 |
And puzzlers a dying breed Coxy, you not played my levels then? I bet you can't find another 5 decent puzzler levels, I do agree that yours are very good though | 2009-05-22 20:10:00 Author: Coxy224 Posts: 2645 |
You're right Coxy, but that's the hardest thing, making a decent puzzle that's not just dragging a mag key to a switch. And if you are dragging A to B making it intresting and fresh. | 2009-05-23 00:15:00 Author: GruntosUK Posts: 1754 |
Tried it, and I think that it feels a lot like the Frozen Tundra which is a good thing. Mainly because it's beautiful and you chose the right materials to use in this level theme. I can't wait for the full version of this level. F4F: The Cave Ruins | 2009-05-23 00:22:00 Author: galacemiguel Posts: 179 |
I kinda got my hands full right now. The level should be done in 1-2 weeks... | 2009-05-27 10:05:00 Author: blizzard_cool Posts: 752 |
Thank you so much for lovely comments on my trilogy. I'm glad you liked them. The chances are if I liked the look of the entrance, I will like the look of the level and I loved the look of the entrance in your level. It has a lovely, cold, icey feel, just my cup of tea. Good use of camera angles to show height, giving it a mountainous feel and the colour and materials were great throughout. Fossils are beautifully presented with very interesting scenery. I really liked the flooding of the cave and the fact that it wasn't ridiculously difficult to get through to the end. My only dissapointment....... It wasn't long enough!!!!! | 2009-06-12 19:27:00 Author: IceMaiden Posts: 1057 |
Hi blizzard_cool. Here's some more feedback for you. Your stage captured the Icy Mountain look and feel. Being the curious type, even though there were very few challenges in this level, I still managed to kill myself off several times. I liked the fossils too, and even the camera angle, as it left me wondering what is was. And when I got the jetpack and was able to see it all, I said to myself, "Oh...so that's what it is."--it worked for me. My favorite effect was when I depressed the switch causing the burning...I think it was a rock/stone...to fall, and the mist appeared. After reading these posts, it sounds like that was water, which would explain the jetpacks. But my impression was the only burning stone giving warmth in the Mountain cavern had been extinguished, and a cold icy mist filled the void--I could almost feel the temperature drop. Even if you did not intend it that way, maybe you could use that effect to your advantage in another section of the level. 1. If you are considering more challenges, or perils, in this level, you could have 1 or 2 sections that emit falling icy spikes, or cracking ice under foot. 2. I also agree with a couple of comments above about adding something to fill the area where the gas is. I think chunks of ice, that are stickered a brilliant white (possibly enhanced by LEDs) with a mix of dark and light blue gas that hugged only the surface of the ice, would add a nice visual dimension to that area. I rated what you have so far 4-Stars and Hearted it, and I do plan to play the finshed level--just say when! After seeing your attention to detail in this level, I can't wait to hear your insighful comments on my first level, Takken (Part 1)-The Beginning. Thanks. The full level had to be published yesterday but because of this (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=12610) it didn't. I'm stuck with the demo version on my moon but I'll rebuild it againg with the use of your feedback. I'll cover the gas with some ice. I'll add more challenge to the lv (the cracking ice & falling spikes u mentioned) but I'll get rid of the water. The fire boulder dropping into the mountain (actually it's a meteor) , I don't like that. I want it to make better & more enjoyable. Actually I'll just get rid of the meteor but not the water thank you all for your feedback | 2009-06-13 17:06:00 Author: blizzard_cool Posts: 752 |
Hi blizzard_cool, I took some pics like you asked. It's a good looking level with some good platforming. I wanted to get a picture of the icebergs but it didn't come out because gas is invisible in pictures. I'm looking forward to the rest of it. There were a lot of good details like the rays of light. The different materials and corners really made it look like an icy mountain. I think you'll have a lot of people die on the icebergs because there's one iceberg that drops faster than the others. That will kill most people once or twice. With a normal checkpoint you might end up restarting people at that obstacle. You might want to make it a double life checkpoint. The infinite life checkpoint was much appreciated for the decent past the electrified spikes. I also liked the fog that rolled in at the end. http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=513&pictureid=4502 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=513&pictureid=4503 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=513&pictureid=4504 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=513&pictureid=4505 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=513&pictureid=4506 | 2009-06-14 00:51:00 Author: dcf Posts: 468 |
I actually wanted one to be faster. Anyways that for the pics. and the feedback | 2009-06-14 08:02:00 Author: blizzard_cool Posts: 752 |
I actually wanted one to be faster. Anyways that for the pics. and the feedback Yeah, I figured that it was intentional. I'm just saying that it will definitely kill people. | 2009-06-14 14:38:00 Author: dcf Posts: 468 |
Commenting while playing it.. 1- Visuals look alright I think, but some parts could get some fixes. For example the base grey material. It doesn't look that much like snow or snowy-rock. Also the lighting could see some help if you ask me, but it's alright nevertheless. 2- I'm liking some of the details like the frozen fish! 3- The part with the jumping platforms... I would do something to let the player know that the second 'round' of platforms go down when you are on top of it, just to prevent from ugly surprises. Maybe adding some kind of 'painting' on the background that can explain it somehow, or something? Not needed, but just a suggestion.. 4- I just finished it. Quite short, didn't dig the fog at the end, but otherwise it seems like a fun stage. | 2009-06-14 18:16:00 Author: Mik2121 Posts: 75 |

Well I think it looks like a snowy/ice mountain level but I'll add some lighting. Ok I'll add a simple speech bubble. The fog should have represented water. I thought people would get that one because all the water effect (sounds). Does anyone read the only demo part (again )? | 2009-06-14 20:31:00 Author: blizzard_cool Posts: 752 |

I thought you wanted feedback, so it doesn't matter if it's a demo or not. I know it's short because of that, that's why I didn't really care much about it, but if you are asking for feedback, dunno what were you waiting for | 2009-06-15 04:21:00 Author: Mik2121 Posts: 75 |
Level update! Since the full level got deleted and I had to start over again with the demo, here is how far I am with it: -Got rid of the area after the ice platforms (the ones that sink) -I was playing a little bit with stickers and now the level has a bit more of detail -the thermo dropped... allot. now I have much space to build (even if the demo was only 50% full) Well that's all for now. I'm still crushed by the fact that I lost the whole level But I hope to rebuild it even better. | 2009-06-16 08:27:00 Author: blizzard_cool Posts: 752 |
By the way, I forgot to say it. Could you give me feedback on my stage The Arabian Nights? It's the second link in my sig! Thanks | 2009-06-16 10:00:00 Author: Mik2121 Posts: 75 |
Played this the other day.... I really liked the style of this level, and when it's done it should be great. Putting the fish in the ice was fantastic. Interestingly, I didn't know it was only a demo when I went to play it... I was getting all excited, got the jetpack, and started flying around... then realized that was "it". Looking forward to the finished product! | 2009-06-16 13:42:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |

Not the platforms but just the area after that. | 2009-06-16 13:59:00 Author: blizzard_cool Posts: 752 |
I remember playing this on your moon many moons ago. Will have a look next time I play LBP. | 2009-06-16 14:05:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
I'm not going to pro/con it because it is unfinished. I will just list some notes; - Solid design although the visuals are a inconsistent in quality! IE: Fossilized remains = Win, jagged edges from awkward carves with square tool = Suck. - Lighting, need some. This is the sort of level that needs to be very lighting heavy. Your in a mountain, your not supposed to get a lot of natual light! I'm not saying make it completely dark or anything, just, darker and add some glowl rocks. -Use the corner edit tool to tweak some of the rock faces at the begining of the level. Get rid of some of the tiny jags, just looks bad and doesn't add anything to game play. Obviously you want it to be jaggy because it's icey, but I think that it could do with a touch up. -I was going to say that it's short and the ending is lackluster, but then I read your OP that says it's still in development, which is a-okay then. -I think you need a few more 'doing' puzzles rather than just platformy jumps. Something that stops the player until they work it out. -More fossils! | 2009-06-16 15:45:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |
I played this yesterday and had fun with it for as long as it lasted. I'm looking forward to the complete version because the jetpack/water concept was awesome and unique. I don't know why people didn't get it as water... The visuals are mostly clean, but nothing that'll "wow" anyone. From what you say, the recreated version will look slightly different, so I will reserve any judgments thusly. I agree with others on this thread that making it a bit more of a puzzler would make it much more interesting. As it stands right now, this level is fun because it looks nice and the jetpack/water section was unexpected. There's not any gameplay other than that that is fresh. I'm going to reserve any other judgments until the actual release. | 2009-06-17 12:21:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
Only a couple of things I'd tweak so far blizzard, one is the red switch at the bottom of the ice cave, maybe blend it in more to the environment in some way, inbed it in a rock shape or something. And the fossil fish with the little note is crying out for a text bubble, maybe something funny. Seeing as a little note is there, i'm guessing you're gonna do that anyway. The lighting could be a bit more rich and varied too, have a play about with some spotlights and shadow..... The fossil and bones work great, its a good theme, maybe work a bit more of that into the rest of it....? Sorry you lost all your work, thats frustrating. | 2009-06-17 22:45:00 Author: julesyjules Posts: 1156 |
1. Thank you all for your feedback! 2. I'll close this thread after/if Syroc posts his feedback. Cause I don't want to get everyone to post just on a demo... Well thanks everyone EDIT: I just published the demo version 0.2 I only added lighting and some speech bubbles and thanked you all for your feedback EDIT 2: Someone slapped a big Nerve-wracking tag on version 0.2 | 2009-06-18 08:12:00 Author: blizzard_cool Posts: 752 |
just played this level and the demo as well, some feedback + love the ice-slide + good use of soundeffects + fossils are well done + some good platform elements some tips - maybe you could use the icy-background (don't know the name of it) because it seems like you have no background at all now - the last part, with the water, it's not that clear... maybe you can put a thin glass layer which goes slowly upwards in front of your level to give the impression of water? - maybe some more enemies/platform elements? - scoreboard could use some decoration overall a pretty nice level, although i'm wondering if this is the final version i've played? (mainly because the scoreboard was at a pretty odd location...) misty. | 2009-06-19 13:50:00 Author: Mother-Misty Posts: 574 |
This is the demo only. I believe there was a crash, so it needed to be recreated... not sure, but this is an incomplete level. | 2009-06-19 14:06:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
