BLOOM (inspired by 'flower')

level - BLOOM
psn - mattw87

Hi guys,

I'm here to promote my second published level, and I'm fairly pleased with this one. I'd really appreciate some honest feedback from anyone willing to give it.

Ok, this level is inspired by 'flower', which I thought was a truly wonderful and relaxing game, and I've had ideas about incorperating that kind of idea into a littlebigplanet level, and here it is...BLOOM.

The gameplay mechanics are very straight forward, to progress farther through the level you need to bloom all of the flower buds that you see. To do this you simply jump into the bud (it's pretty clear once you start playing).

There aren't any enemies through the game, and most [minor] hazards come in the form of water which must be avoided.

Some exploration is encouraged because I have added 2 secret flowers that reward you with greater points.

Here are some shots I took of my level to give you an idea of the style, I'll try and get a video uploaded later today. Like I said I'd love some feedback, although I've been playing and loving LBP since day one I'm still very new to creating and I'm eager to learn. I'm in it for the long haul.

Wow ... definitely a game I NEVER would have thought of trying to recreate in LBP. However, it works surprisingly well. You did a really nice job.

Anyway, I really loved Flower and this was able to bring back a lot of memories from the game. The notes were great as you bloomed the flowers, and I loved how they became more melodic as you got into the electrical tower section just like it did in the game.

- Only a couple things I can think of that I would like to see if you were to create another level or just 'fix' this one up a bit. When I dropped down and grabbed the first green flowers the trip back up was more difficult than I thought it should be. I kept falling as I tried to make that last jump and got really frustrated. It seemed to stick out to far and made the jump difficult. I would love to see a recreation of more of the actual areas if you were to make more. Such as the night area where everything lit up, that place was amazing in the original and with some really good lighting I think it could work really well in one of these levels too.

I had fun playing this though, found both of the secret flowers. C: 5 stars and a heart.

Thanks Coreymill, I appreciate your great write-up there. For the secret flower bit, I'll have a look into that. It's certainly something that I never found to be a problem when testing the level, but then again I've played it so many times that it comes naturally. It's something that could be easily rectified by widening the corridors a bit, I wanted to keep it as discreet and compact as possible.

I hear what you're saying about the other areas from the flower game too. I actually created the city as the next section for this level, involving using different colour stickers to reactivate the buildings and incorperating that with some decent platforming, but in the end I decided to make the concious decision of keeping this level shorter and minimalistic and see what kind of response I get. I didn't want it to drag on and the novelty to wear thin.

I also feel it will create a bigger impact when juxtaposed with a second level of similar size that starts off with the night level from the game, like you said lighting areas up as you go along and ending in bringing the city back to life.
Even got plans to give a nod to the final part of flower when releasing names to the sky, though I'd have to get my head around the floaty material first.

I'll see how this level does first though, no point in making a sequel if it flops.
