Cumulative Life Checkpoints/Enhancements

Starting Gate:
Add a tweak menu. Two options, default "normal" and "cumulative" mode. If cumulative is selected, an option to assign an initial number of lives per sackboy appears. This is a numeric value. Infinite is an option by going left past zero.

There is an additional tweak option: Life Sharing, which as default is on. This makes it so lives are shared between all players. Turning this off means that each player's lives are kept track of separately.


Checkpoints:
There is a new check point with a + sign on it designed for cumulative mode. This checkpoint has a tweak menu with an option for extra lives. The field takes any number (again infinite is possible by going to the left of zero). The first time this checkpoint is activated, sackboy receives extra lives equal to the number assigned in this tweak option. Even if life sharing is turned off, this should give extra lives to all sackboys, regardless of who reaches the checkpoint first. If a sackboy is at zero lives then this still gives him the extra lives (in effect reviving him).

In non-cumulative mode, this functions as a normal checkpoint with a variable number of lives.


Enhancements:
Extra Life: A sackboy icon of some sort. This would work for both normal and cumulative modes. This adds an extra life to sackboy's total. In cumulative mode it should be self explanatory. In normal mode it restores one life to the most recent check point.

That's a great idea
can't really see any faults with it

the shared lives idea would stop online play becoming frustrated when a less experienced player is stealing all of your lives

With the extra live enhancement though i think in normal mode that should completly restore the checkpoint that's currently active instead of just giving one extra life
A prize bubble with a heart or sackboy in the middle would be a cool graphic for that

Great ideas! I especially love the ideas of having separate lives for each player. I hate when I play with horrible players who waste all my lives.2009-05-20 18:40:00

The separate lives also enables a new type of versus survival match. I figured I should mention this so people realize it has uses beyond preventing bad or laggy players from stealing your lives

Dexiro's idea to implement the extra lives in normal mode as a restore would also work! I'm all for having multiple options.

I like those ideas. I would love a checkpoint where you tweak how much lives the player will get for it and the shared lives thing would remove lots of frustration playing with other people.

Some people would probably abuse the extra life coin by making random levels full of them, but I still like the idea.
