Enable Right Stick Camera Operation With Wires

Archive: 7 posts

Sometimes playing with wires can be precision work. You have many objects near each other that can accept wires (or alternatively, you have many switches near each other and want to grab the right wire). So you zoom in, find the wire you want and grab it. Then you go to zoom out with the right analog stick and nothing happens So now you move your wire along the screen at a snails pace, looking for that switch which might be half a level away. Very time consuming. Let's have the camera command enabled while grabbing wires. It seems like a no brainer.

Also, while we're at it, let's have a more visible highlighting of the switch that the wire is coming from. It can be a pain looking back at complex logic circuits and determining where a particular wire is coming from.

While we're at it. We should also be able to toggle wire visibility off in create mode (all at once from the start menu, not individually). Sometimes you want to grab a small object a wire is attached to (like a bolt) but can't because you keep getting the wire. This would fix that.

Also, it's said before, but can't be said enough. Hiding layers so you can reach objects behind another object without needing to cut a hole in the object is a must!

More great ideas dcf, you're just full of great ideas! Messing with wires can get so annoying due to this, that's why most of the time I have someone there to help me. Another thing that can get annoying is messing with stickers due to the camera. I would like it if you could hold/press R3 or any button to be able to rotate/move the camera while messing with the stickers.2009-05-21 00:14:00

And that's still missing quite some swsitches....
Got quite annoying sometimes, even was about to quit building it once, luckly i was able to finish it!

Hmmm.. not a bad idea!!

To your first point. One thing I have been doing to be able to scoot across the room faster in that scenario is plopping a wobble bolt or motor bolt in a separate piece of dark matter nearby. I attach the wire from my closeup work to that as a temp holding place, then zoom out and pick it up again to to make the trek across the level.

If you have several wires you need to string. Just plop several motor bolts down to the dark matter in order and attach all your wires. Then it is just a matter of dragging the dark matter across the room with all the wires in one shot. ...uh, but please keep track of what wire is for what or if you are like me, you get very confused very quickly!!

..however what you suggested would be pretty darn sweet!!

I've done this trick too! It's a good method, especially for rewiring. For grabbing the initial wire, I have a trick where I zoom in, put the cursor over the wire and then zoom out, which also helps. However, camera access would really remove a lot of frustration.

Ah, shared experiences. If only they weren't frustrating ones

Yeah, this is what I do when I don't have a second player there with me. It would be way easier if they implemented what you suggested in the first post though.
