Dark andf Light

Archive: 9 posts

Iv'e just published a level and would appreciate some feedback if possible.

PSN: SneakySteve83
Level: Dark and Light

I've tried to do something different but have had a lack of ideas of how I can carry it on and make it better.
Whenever you die you switch over to a different version of the level. Sometimes you'll only be able to progress on one of the versions but you may have to do something on the other to help you get through. Its not completly finished but I thought I'd try and get some ideas from other people.

Thanks.

I just got done played the level, its an extremely instresting concept, and what you have in the level so far is very impressive. If definetly makes you think and plot what to do. Its a great idea hoping between light and dark in order to progress in the other, I have seen it in other games before but never in LBP.

The visuals are basic but fit the style and mood of the level perfectly. The one gripe I have is obviously the length, I was just getting into the flow of the level and BAM, it was all over, also, there was'nt a great deal of crossing over in the last couple of platform sections, its an awesome mechanic and idea and I think you should push it all the way.

I really did enjoy playing it though, be sure to let me know when you add other content to the level.

****, puzzler and hearted.

Definetly 5* if the level was longer.

Thanks for the feedback

I've been working on the mechanics of the level as I was using the back thin and thick layer to swap the player between levels. I've now found a way that I can do this without using them so I should be able to add more to it.
I was going to add more to it before publishing it but I wanted to see how people would take to it and so far most of the people that have played it have grasped the concept so I definately think I'll work on it some more.

I've had suggestions that I should add some kind of theme to it. Something like "Heaven and Hell" but a bit more original as there seem to be lots of those levels out there.

I really don't think that you need any theme changes from one area to the other, I think the opposite colors work really well as they are.

- It's a really great idea, and as was said, what you have here right now is really impressive and works really well.

- The only question I have is at the part with the spinning 'stick' with the electrified circle piece at the end of it. I am not sure that I got passed that part correctly. What I did was jump onto the unelectrified 'stick' part and jumped up and let the electrified part pass under me, landed back on the stick part and then jumped over to the right. If that is how you do it, I would suggest that you make that a bit easier. I am pretty good at difficult platforming, but felt that I got lucky when I pulled that off on my first try. I am thinking there was probably an easier way to do it, but after I was to the next section I didn't want to go back and see if there was.

Anyway, really liked the level ... hopefully you will be able to come up with more puzzles and ideas for it. Still got 5 stars from me though.

I wouldn't change the theme either. I liked the simple, high contrast graphic quality you have. it makes you focus on the play and which version you should be in rather than being distracted by lots of colors and textures. It's the same reason that the level black & white works so well.

I don't know if it's intentional but if you die over and over again on the first electrified bit, your score goes up. I discovered it by accident while trying to figure out what to do in that section.

I'd love to see a longer version too. Not terribly long but a bit longer than what you've got published right now. I'd make it more of the "you can only get through in either the light or the dark version but not both" as you add more to the level. It increases the difficulty and makes the player think the level through more.

Even short as it is I gave it 5 stars because the concept is really cool and I liked the stylized look. Hearted too. Thanks for sharing and if you add more - keep us posted!

Thanks again for the feedback.

I'm probably going to stick with this theme now that I have thought about it some more.

Coeymill, I didnt realise that you could get over that part like that.
The idea was that you had a pull out step on both sides of the level.
Only one of them was grabbable but when you pulled it out the other one moved aswell.
The side with the grabbable step had spikes blocking the path above it so you have to pull it out and then die to get through on the other side.
I'm planning on adding a few extra bits like that where your actions on one side effect the other so that you can progress through the level.

I thought that this level was very cool, loved the concept. I thought that the visuals might need a little work, but that is the only thing that came to mind, not sure of how you would do that though.
I found it a bit tricky to figure out some of the puzzles, which is a good thing.
4 stars, Tricky and a heart from me!

Thanks for playing.

I've had mixed responses about the visuals.
Some have recommended that I should add some kind of theme to it and some have said it should be left simplistic.
I'm working on a new version at the moment so any extra input about this would be helpful.

Nice level and nice concept. The visuals weren't amazing but it fit the level nicely. The concept of the level was great but I felt it was really short. I gave it :star::star::star::star: . I'll be looking forward to more from you as this was a great first level, I was amazed when I read that.2009-07-02 02:31:00
