Come one, come all, to the grand opening of the Pinball Wizzard pinball arcade! Yes there are two Z's in that word!

To celebrate this momentous occasion, the Wizzard herself (yes herself!) has crafted a new pinball table, called The Great Pinball Adventure!

http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o16/LoiusAllieran/LBP/APhoto_8.jpg

Hold on to your hats (actually, you shouldn't wear them as they'll show through the level!) and embark on the most epic pinball journey EVER through multiple locations:

The Sunny Vale
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o16/LoiusAllieran/LBP/APhoto_7.jpg
Welcome to Pinball Land!

The Princess's Castle
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o16/LoiusAllieran/LBP/APhoto_10.jpg
Ain't she adorable?

The Abandoned Gold Mine
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o16/LoiusAllieran/LBP/APhoto_5.jpg
Still has some gold in it!

The Dragon's Cave
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o16/LoiusAllieran/LBP/APhoto_13.jpg
Complete with dragon!

Can you beat the high score set by the Wizzard's handsome assistant?

It's been a long task (I must have spent upwards of 10 hours getting the consarned checkpoints working right ) but it's 99.9% foolproof and now I'm releasing it to the masses. If you like pinball, dragons, detailed levels, alternative gameplay, hidden secrets, puzzles, aiming, or LBP, you have to play this. You just have to.

Note: Sometimes Sackboy gets crushed. Unavoidable AND unpredictable, joy. Sackboy has infinite lives in this level, but not infinite pinballs... luckily I've managed to keep the problem to a minimum, but if it happens to you, sorry in advance.

Simply fantastic, mate. It's cinematic, it's fun to play, and it's the first pinball level I've seen with any sort of story. You've got a ton of Creative talent and I can't wait to go in and try some of your other levels. Good stuff.

(no need to F4F, I just wanted to let you know what I thought)

I have a pinball level myself so I had to try this one. I'll tell ya I was blown away. This level is just awesome. It's very different from the other pinball levels out there, witch is a good thing. It's very unique, and extremely well put together. I think it only killed me once, but you just respawn anyways, so it's no big deal. I really liked all the different environments in the level, and it looks very polished. GREAT WORK!!!!

could you give me feedback on my level (mountain marathon) thanks

I just got through playing this, and I must say it was really well done, I liked the way you started the level by grabbing the pinball machine. Once you are in the level the different sections are excellent and definetly a new slant on the pinball theme, its more a time-travelling pinball adventure game than a straight up table, and its great fun to play.

The first section is a nice easy little introduction of what is to come, then the difficult ramps up slowly towards the end, its definetly got a nice flow to it. I thought the egyptian setion visuals where outstanding and it was a nice idea of how to get the ball to progress. The boss was good, if a little easy, an attack would have been nice because the only real way to die was falling off the bottom, and sometimes, after you have hit the boss you have no way of avoiding it, which was the only real problem I could find.

I liked the end where you destroyed the machine, very nice set piece. I gave the level 5*, a brilliant tag and a heart. Excellent job, I had a lot of fun

Wonderful job here I like how there are some very unique ideas implemented here, and how its both a challenge to beat a timer, and to stay alive for longer periods of time. The boss is pretty cool too, i would have never have thought of making a pinball based boss

5* and hearted, keep up the great work.

just played this one... what a great level!

some feedback
+ I love the idea of a giant pinball level, would like to see more levels like this.
+ nice character design
+ cool idea to put the manual in boxes! :-)
+ i'm not really a boss fan but this one is pretty cool, i also love the fact that you have implemented a HP-system so you can see how many times you have to hit the boss.

some questions...
- played it several times and i always die after the boss where you fall down, does the level continue after that or is that supposed to happen? (seems like your ball needs a higher speed to get past that part)
- my sackgirl died once, (while my ball didn't) i saw her moving like mad in the background (i could see her decoration not the sackgirl itself, see signature )

EDIT: didn't read your note, forget that last comment

all togheter a really great & fun level, ended at 2nd place but will certainly try again to beat your score allieran

5 stars and a heart!

My Description-

I found this level to be really amusing. The Pinball concept, added with a bit of save the queen and kill the dragon story was really well thought out.

Pros of the level-

The Characters were really cute, the Soldiers, the Princess wasnt a "pretty pretty princess" but its design was really nice.

and everything was well set. I liked how you start with saving the Princess from the soldiers and then move on to killing the dragon.

I found the gameplay to be quite competitive and a bit challenging, but not hard. You just have to know where and when you need to hit the ball to get it to where you need it to go.

Also, by ending it the way it ended ( destroying the machine mechanism by clogging it up was a really good way to end a level)

Cons of the level-

I found none. this level is perfect the way it is.

Overall Rating-

5 Stars, Machinery and Hearted. Great Job!

Would you please give me feedback for my:

Awesome work!

I enjoyed this one a bunch. Innovative use of platforming in the guise of a pinball machine. Advancing table to table in a race against time... I loved the seperate lands each with a goal to progress, though I did wish I could have gained a few points by wacking into some extra goodies here and there while attempting to get the ball where I needed it to go!! Like maybe a stone balcony /basket in front of the "uhhh pretty princess?" to claim your uhh "prize" ... but it is a race and understand why that was not the case

+ Fun ..did I say fun?
+ Challenging to get a good time, but still pretty easy to play.
+ Innovative game play in combing fun machinary in a pinball game
+ Yummy sign if you get the ball into the boss mouth. groan..

- cons.. I didn't hit the high score. (yet)
Really no cons!!

On my first attempt, I did have one issue where I didn't beat the table and slide down to the right of the pinball machine at the end. Some parts fell down and bounced me over there. I also had it where I got the ball up far enough to trigger the boss level, but was still below any ability to use that set of flippers. So instant gutter ball... ...not a biggie though as I learned not to do that!!

Great and fun level.. horribly innovative and put a new twist in an arcade classic.

5 stars and hearted so I can try to get that high score.. I think I was 4th or
5th last time I played. LOL

Interesting story I have.

When I first published this level, the thermo was maxed. Quite literally. I couldn't add a single vertex without overheating.

So I got a comment that the gold cart was squishing the ball, and realized I hadn't fixed that. I go into edit mode and, lo and behold, I have an entire quarter block of thermometer to play with. I think the crazy thermo level was from an emitter that was not turned off while the ball was away, so the game decided I had 4 gold carts in the level instead of just 2... Whatever, LBP. Have your fun.

So I've added a bunch of visuals and some sound effects, and it should be impossible to crush the ball against the gold cart now (unless you have really bad timing getting it into the bin )

I think this time it is actually full, though I can still add vertices.

On my first attempt, I did have one issue where I didn't beat the table and slide down to the right of the pinball machine at the end. Some parts fell down and bounced me over there.

You mean your pinball got over the ending, or your character escaped the level? I thought I'd fixed all the bugs with that.

- played it several times and i always die after the boss where you fall down, does the level continue after that or is that supposed to happen? (seems like your ball needs a higher speed to get past that part)

D:
You shouldn't be able to lose the pinball at all once you beat the boss. I set it up to work even if the ball isn't moving at all when it starts down the hill. Where exactly is your problem?

The boss was good, if a little easy, an attack would have been nice because the only real way to die was falling off the bottom, and sometimes, after you have hit the boss you have no way of avoiding it, which was the only real problem I could find.

I tried several 'attacks' for the boss, and none worked out - why? You can't dodge.

But, he can eat the ball (Yum!), and the 'attack' he has is his swaying motion - if you aim carefully, you'll never lose a ball to him, but if you don't, he'll easily knock away your lives

No sorry.. This may help explain what I meant.

After the machine blows up from being caught in the gears, you are dropped down and complete the race. You then continue down to the original mini pinball machine facade / gateway. I ended up dropping way to the right side and wasn't able to exit to claim my bubbles and complete the level. ...I have played it at least 10 more times and never had that happen again. Possibly now fixed or a fluke.

Hope that makes more sense!!!

I am now 3rd!

oh...

I can fix that. Thanks!

The player-carrier must have not centered on your pinball, or been readjusting itself, just as it dissolved, and flung you sideways.

Yeah.. not sure. I might be remembering this incorrectly, but I was thinking you released the player as you dropped down through the finish line and then out to the entry way again with the wiZZard. I just got knocked to the right behind the entry way pinball machine and the wall for some reason. A quicky piece of dark matter used as a ramp might help insure you don't get back there.

Most welcome!!!

If you got the level lighting back, then everything was working as it should, I think, and you were just in the hallway that leads to the storeroom.

Unless maybe you landed on top of the arcade? Hm...

No matter, I'll fix it 'cause that's what I does.

Yikes.. sorry this is so confusing.

Yup.. got leveling lighting.

I could see "me" just fine and exited normally. I just fell to the right of the mini machine with the tail.. the thing you start the the real machine with. I fell over to the right of it and for some reason could not get back over it to exit the arcade. I don't think that I had beaten the boss so it was still intact. Shoulda taken a pic and uploaded but my profile is full with current stickers I was making. Again sorry for all the confusion.. I shoulda just stayed quite as I think I am making it worse!! <sheepish grin>

No, though it's similar. My level name was inspired by Terry Pratchet's 'Rincewind' character, a sort of bumbling wizard who misspelled wizard.

I hadn't seen those levels before I made this, and the 'wizzard' is an integral part of the level. At least I spelled it different. >..<

If you have alternate name suggestion(s) I'd be glad to hear them. I'll mull it over tonight I suppose.

Hmmm... I've known many wizards over the years. Wizard of OZ - Mr Wizard - Cheech Wizard - Tommy the pinball wizard - Gandalf etc.. I don't think it is that big of a deal. Especially considering the spelling as well as having The Great Pinball Adventure in the title as well.

Maybe if you had your wiZZard behind your letters for your level icon that might lessen any confusion. ...Plus that is such a great character!! I think you would get a ton more plays.

You should check out Wexfordian's pinball levels though, they are really really good. Maybe even ask him his thoughts on your level name. He is on this forum.

Speak of the devil

Hi Loius and welcome to the forums.

To be fair, I hardly have copyright on a level name. Anyway, you could say I stole my level idea from Elton John (but please don't )

your level pics look good and I'll definitely have to check this one out. As you can tell i'm a fan of pinball levels.

Smileys are awesome. There is no 'too many' when one speaks of them.

Oh hey, you're the 'inside the mind' level creator I've played a lot of your levels (including the pinball ones now that I've been alerted to them). Fun are they.

I like the massive size of my pinball, though. Most pinball levels I've played, while visually stunning and much more proper representations of pinball than mine, have really tiny little balls that go 'whick' when you hit them, instead of a proper 'thump.'

Of course mine goes 'drip' 'cause it's made of dissolve. But it's bigger, and for us glasses-wearing lizards that's what's important. Also it's more satisfying to whack it around since it looks like it has some heft to it.

As for this level and its lack of 'real pinballness' as far as bumpers and twirlers and diddlies, my thermo is at 100.0% and I had originally planned another area that had to be cut xD So, I'll plan smaller on the sequel and actually have some flibberdigibits for the pinball to smack against.

Every word I just typed is real. Completely.

They're pretty minor, mostly just a few cracks and broken windows, less places to get stuck, more sound effects. But altogether they increase the awesome factor of the level to blackwatch plaid.2009-05-20 17:13:00

This was an awesome level Loius!!

I can only join in the praise of others!!
It was so out of the box, exactly what LBP should be all about.

I was most impressed with the ball clogging up the machine at the end!!
Great visuals and very cinematic, the sparks were really nice!!

Very well done, Loius!!

Well I played this last night and loved it! Great concept, well executed. I loved the boss.
minor quips:
the disolve on the machine at the start wasn't coloured.
audio speakers on the door at the start were visible.

Needles to say that didn't stop me giving it 5 stars, "brilliant" and hearted.

Finished the majority of my playlist, and this was nearer the bottom. I really wish it had been nearer the top though as this was a splendid level with working mechanics, a fun story and plenty of objectives and replay value.

Pros:
+ Fun
+ Plenty of replay value
+ A brilliant boss!
+ Bonus points for speed
+ Bonus points for balls!
+ Excellent pinball mechanics
+ Good checkpoints

Cons:
- A little on the short side

Overall though I loved this level and will be back for high scores!

LOL.. I think you might have gone a bit overboard with the green leafs on the knights table. Almost hard to see where the upper opening to the left is ..not sure I like the T looking thingy on the castle either, but other than that pretty cool upgrade. Electric flippers... doh!!

I also noticed you changed up the speed of the mine carts. booooo!!! I'll just have to compensate a bit.

Don't need F4F ... just wanted to say how really awesome this level is.

- Loved it the first time through and had to play it a second time right afterwards. Managed to get third place on my second time through, although I am sure that I will play it some more. C:

- Easily a 5 star and heart, as many people have been saying. I didn't see anything wrong with the level at all.

I do not understand this level! It keeps lowering its thermometer level and allowing me to add more pistons! xD

But I finally managed to overheat it. So barring any enormous fixes needed, this is the final version

Added warning sound effect when you're at Zero lives left (it's not nearly as loud as checkpoint warning sounds <..<)
Fixed up the leaves that were pretty obviously way overdone.
Toned down the squeaky metal sound in the mine
May have changed the mine cart rate again xD I wish I had a better way to generate those randomly.
Um
Some more stalactites fall from the cave now; it's cool looking.

Sorry, Wex, Thegide, eat your heart out!!!

A great new idea, and it plays awesome too!!

Only downside, is I won't be trying for a high score anytime soon, as it is "finite", if you know what I mean, unlike wex and thegide who have gone for a more traditional style. Doesn't mean it isn't AWESOME though!!

Btw, I'm assuming there is a camera zone on the ball and you are in the background, must have been a nightmare getting the character around!!

I'll probably make PW2 infinite-score-possibilities. I might try my hand at making a non-race version of this level, with some bumpers & 'score runs' added in, but there's so little thermo room left (even if I remove the current score mechanisms) that it's kind of unlikely.

And yes, that's how it works: Camera on ball, player in the background. Moving the player around isn't really that hard, it's just the random squishing that makes it work wrong. If the carrier moves slower, it won't squish you, but it won't follow the ball either, due to how fast you can move it. I can already get the ball off screen in a couple places anyway.

It's possible I could resize the entire level and zoom in the camera so it looks the same, thus requiring less speed from the carrier...

But I'd have to redo every single emitter (since apparently the emitted object doesn't change size anymore), and that's just silly.

Just played this just now. TBH I don`t normally bother with pinball levels as while they`re complex and a lot of work goes into them, they rarely get any better than 'just about playable' due to camera problems etc.

This one has no such issues. As well as being technically impressive, it`s fun to play which to me is the main thing.

My only complaint would be that often, hitting the boss would be followed by an unavoidable death since the two flippers are so far apart. At that point I found myself getting a bit annoyed since I wasn`t doing anything wrong. Certainly didn`t take too much away from my enjoyment of the level though. 5 stars and hearted.

Many thanks to everyone! This level is currently on page 2 of Cool Levels!

I recently discovered that the thermo is split into several thermometers - creatures, moving parts, collected objects, shapes, decorations, maybe a couple more.

All of my checkpoints are (hugely expensive) collected objects - I tested this by removing and rebuilding one from scratch, and the thermo dropped noticeably.

>:|

I want an option to show -all- the thermos, not just the most used one. Graaawr.

I've increased the race time and added a little bit of 'pinballness' - flashing lights and a couple of bumpers in the gold mine area that give you extra points. High score should now be a bit more variable!

When I have the inclination, I'll (try to) replace all the checkpoints with non-collected ones and see if I can add even more of the usual pinball panache.

Hooray for my first level to get on Cool Levels <3
Plays and hearts on my other levels have skyrocketed too, and I got my Create trophy!

No, I knew it was useful, just didn't know it was 260 hearts / 2000 plays useful

Ne'er have I had numbers like that.

I love this game. Very unique twist on pinball, excellently designed. You could make a whole series out of this and it would never get old. 5 stars and hearted - great job!2009-05-24 14:15:00

Wow, what a great level. Combining pinball with an adventure game is pure genius... and within LBP too. Really fun, expertly constructed, and 100% gorgeous. 5 stars and hearted. Great job!2009-06-02 02:28:00

This was far and away one of my favourite LBP levels I've ever played, just amazing.

Immediately after playing this level, my friend turned to me with this hypnotised look on his face, and said "right now I'm more blown away than I've ever been in my life". And he meant it!

I absolutely loved this! The creativity on display in this level is amazing! I love the idea of a story based pinball level and you handle it wonderfully. The design of the pinball arena's and the characters throughout are outstanding!

There were a couple areas that I found a bit difficult, but overall I enjoyed the entire experience. Great job!

I really didn't know what to expect when I started playing this level so the whoe experience came as rather a pleasant surprise.

It was fun, challenging and visually extremely pleasing.

I loved the flipper motion and the seamingly weightless ball.

Choice of colours and materials gave it a lovely atmosphere and I think it could become quite addictive.

Very, VERY clever level.

Good work.

Thoroughly enjoyed - 5 stars and heart and creator heart.
