Nice Fallout 3 Interview!

Archive: 12 posts

Hey here's a Fallout 3 interview from PAX. Interesting read! Small scripted events that change each time you play (read preview for context), why they dislike the term "Oblivion with guns" and their stance on releasing story info.

Yeah I've seen Far Cry. It looks ok but not my sort of game. I don't like first person shooters.

The map creation looks really cool and easy to use but I wouldn't use it that much. And I hope to put most of my creative energies into LBP anyway.

I've seen the gameplay in Far Cry 2 but it just doesn't interest me at all. There are cool... environmental things like the sun, the wind, the beautiful environments, and the open gameplay where you can approach each situation in many different ways. But as it is a FPS and I just don't like the genre at all, I won't be buying it. If there is a demo I'll play it but I doubt there will be.

I think the games are contenders to the untrained eye so-to-speak. If you glanced at both you'd think they were sort of similar in that there's a huge environment to explore and freedom to go where you want when you want.

However one is an open world FPS and the other is an open world RPG. The direction each game takes is extremely different. Far Cry 2 will have a relatively linear narrative while Fallout 3 will have tonnes more depth in terms of dialogue. Far Cry 2 has the creation tools with almost limitless potential (this does interest me as I'm sure a lot of people will create some maps that I would probably really enjoy despite my dislike of FPS) but Fallout 3 has at least 100 hours of quest driven gameplay. And Far Cry 2 is going for an extra realistic game while Fallout 3 is post-apocalyptic and is inherintly unrealistic with its many RPG elements like the VATS system, crazy weapons and radioactive mutants.

Both have pros and cons depending on your point of view and from mine Fallout 3 will be far more enjoyable and far more deserving of my money than Far Cry 2. I may pick up Far Cry 2 if I'm impressed with the maps people make (can you upload them?) but otherwise I won't.

Quite an opinion you have there I nearly needed a dictionary.

But seriously, i agree with most of the points up there.

I've become just a tad obsessed yes.

Yeah that sounds fun, I usually play a good guy in these kinda games if you want to blow it up. The explosion looked amazing in the vids!

I dunno how I'm gonna decide what to play between LBP and Fallout 3. They're both games I've wanted for years and both look amazing. I may import Fallout 3 from Canada (much cheaper) and that way I'll have a good while with LBP alone and then play the hell out of Fallout 3 when it arrives.

Sounds like a plan. I usualy play a good guy but i'll get tierd of being to careful and just start a new save game and do whatever I want, which usualy ends up me being neutral, leaning towards good only slightly.

Problem is, previously theres been less rewards for the player who chooses the neutral path. Am I going off topic?

Seems going off topic is a real concern of people on this forum. i've noticed many people saying "back on topic" when they were talking on topic all along. As long as you're talking about Fallout 3, you're basically on topic.

There probably will be less rewards for the neutral path. And I guess a lot of quests will only have a good or bad possibility and neutral won't really come into it. I doubt there will be that many people who like you when you're neutral, you'll probably meet more that like you (and will give you quests) if you're either good or bad. But I guess you could always go bad and then redeem yourself later by being good.

I always try to be good but at the same time want to experience everything. In my latest Oblivion character I played the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild and then did Knights of the Nine. So I don't have the infamy, only the fame... the guards still hate me though... . There won't be a handy thing like this in Fallout though.

I'm actually still a bit unsure if I'll play it good or bad... I really want to see the explosion!!!

I saw in an interview though that they are actualy trying to reward the neutral path just as much as the others, seen as how people like me choose to play it. They were really excited about the results actualy, but to be honest, I don't know if it was an interview for this game or a different one

I'm sure you'll be able to pick neutral dialogue as there always seems to be enough options. But I'm not sure if you'll be able to get rewarded for being neutral. But then rewards for being neutral are rare aren't they. If you actually play it fully neutral you wouldn't have nearly as much fun as good or bad I think as you'll be able to complete less quests.2008-08-31 15:46:00

I don't think so... Eventualy, games should bring in rewards for neutral where you can bob in and out of the good and bad side, and get the rewards from both.. to quote Hannah Montanna..."You get the best of both worlds"

I think thats what neutral is to me anyway, not doing nothing wrong or right throughout the whole game, but doing a fairly balanced mixture.

Ah sorry I thought you meant like role-playing a neutral character. Well you could bob in and out in Oblivion, I'm sure it's the same case here. But maintaining a neutral karma may limit the amount of people that you can become friendly with and who will give you quests.2008-08-31 16:05:00
