capuring bug?

Archive: 13 posts

Okay, so i just finished my entry for Boss Rush 3, and i'm all set to capture the sucker (as you have to capture the boss as part of submission rules), put him in a prize bubble, and publish him so its an official entry... when i find my capture tool isn't working right.

I capture the entire object, but for some reason it deletes some switches, and who knows what else (its a rats nest of wires in there, seriously). Can anyone think of reasons it would be doing this? I know the boss is huge, but it seems random that it would delete switches like that.

Its kinda annoying me lol, as trying to figure out what went wrong where would be a HUUUUUUGE pain in the lower dorsal extremity. Not to mention the fact that Aer0 would have to do the switch reconnecting, and i don't wanna make him do that D:

Thanks a bunch in advance.

Connect your switches with (invisible?) string and that should fix the problem. This problem has been happening recently and I think there's a youtube vid on it...2009-05-17 14:49:00

Perhapes you didn't capture the sitches themselves along with the boss?
(If a switsh is here and the boss is ----------> here, you have to extend the "capture sqaure" for it to be part of the object)
Maybe that's the problem?

Kratos 4 (the tank builder) posted a video about the old capture glitch that came with, I think, 1.07. You had to connect your switches to your boss via dissolve, then capture, then dissolve the dissolve later, I think. However, it was fixed in the next update. Has Yarg brought it back?2009-05-17 16:10:00

(darn you and your posting right before im about to post >:U )

yeah, its a possibility that yarg may have brought back old bugs, or even the new, more recent update. y'know, the one that only updated the data or whatever?

EDIT: im talking about the ricotta patch 1.13. i had to go check the name >.>

um... lemme get some pictures up here...

Yes, i captured the switches with the boss, they dissapeared from the object they were sitting on for some reason.

Just tried teh string thing, no dice. IDK what you mean with the dissolve...

so here are some pictures, maybe they'll help lol

http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff297/Burnvictim42/LBP/APhoto_11.jpgoriginal setup, switches there
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff297/Burnvictim42/LBP/APhoto_12.jpgcaptured setup- missing 3 switches on the bottom OR gates (the string was from the string idea lol)
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff297/Burnvictim42/LBP/APhoto_13.jpg general boss setup (showing the logic (and thats only half of the logic) isn't directly part of the boss)

As far as i can tell, those are the only 3 switches which are gone, luckily they're not complicated switches... but theres no way i could ever be sure that they're the only ones deleted, there is just too much going on lol, and i cant even see all my switches. I'd basically have to test and retest and retest the "fixed" version to make sure it all worked.... and that sounds ugly.

That's pretty strange. Those switches do look like they are on the very edge of the material though. Maybe they're not being captured correctly because they're too close to the border?2009-05-17 22:37:00

Just tried moving them, looks like it worked Thanks a bunch gilg.

Odd that it deletes them if they're on the edge though... and now i have to go test it again lol.

Glad I could help. I had a hunch because I had a similar experience with decorations. I was placing a decoration on a slanted side of a wood block (part of a mech) but as soon as I would capture or copy the object, the decoration would mysteriously vanish. :/

It might only happen with complex objects though, because my attempts to recreate the bug using just a wood block and decoration piece failed.

It's possible that your switches were actually placed UNDER the THIN-LAYER rectangles. Maybe you placed the thin stuff on top of the switches slightly? This will make your switches disappear... sometimes.2009-05-18 03:28:00

Well, first of all... the problem is solved thanks to gilg The boss is out there and published, if anyone wants to play it *shameless plug*

but yes, you're right, it was because the switches were down too far and in fact on the edge of the material.

Sorry I forgot to mention that I read the entire thread and knew that the problem was solved

I was just adding to it with something I had discovered. If you put a switch on a THICK block, then cover it with a THIN block/cover, I've had switches vanish this way.

I have never had a problem with switches too close to the edge disappearing.
I'm not saying that this doesn't happen, but I did have the other senario give me headaches with switches disappearing.
