Material glitch? Shapes You can't grab or delete?

Archive: 16 posts

I've been working on my Chroma Stone 4 level for awhile now and I just discovered something I can't explain or solve.

I've got the ending bit of my level as a carry over from the last level but I've just changed the materials. So I decided I wanted it moved into a different area of the level. So I selected it all, moved it and went on to work on some other stuff. After finishing an area directly before the ending (not attached at all to the problem area) I decided I was going to have to adjust the end area design so I went down to the scoreboard area and started to try to delete the shapes. I was able to select the scoreboard and the lights and the dark matter attached to the lights BUT three thin layers and two thick layers are unselectable. I can't grab them, move them, corner edit them or overwrite them with 1, 2 or 3 layers of material over the top. I also can't create a shape to try to attach to them. If I let my sackboy fall - he falls right through them. It's as if they don't exist and yet the shapes are still showing up on the level. I've also tried to quit out of LBP and restart it on two separate occasions and yet the shapes are still there. I sort of want to use the area for another part of the level and I don't know if I can now as I can't seem to get rid of the stuff.

Anyone else have this issue and is there a way to "fix" it other than copying the 80% of the level I have done onto a different blank level? Or if I just leave it and design around/over it do I risk the level becoming corrupt?

Any info would be greatly appreciated. (I did do a search and didn't see any help threads on this topic - if I missed one - please point me in the right direction)

Thanks as always

Heres a discussion about this you probably missed (the title isn't all the leading lol)
https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=11506

and as i said there, i dont know how to fix it, or what causes it.... all i've ever done to fix it is rewind. Hopefully you have some backup data stored somewhere, because copying that much level would be a pain D:

Dang - ok thanks! I'm going to try the checkpoint thing. If that doesn't work I have a backup from 3 days ago... I will loose about 16 hours of work if I do that though. Has anyone just designed over it or blocked it out and still had their level be ok?2009-05-17 08:24:00

morgana, copy your WHOLE entire lvl
and paste it into a new level,
this way you will have everything EXCEPT the glitched area because it doesnt let you copy/move/deleate or w/e

this has happened to me many time, for ex in my lvl dream world (its not published)

the ending is completely messed,
the boss's death rays go RIGHT THROUGH you...
the paintinator WONT SHOOT....
you cant PULL THE LEVER, cuz its like you walk thru it.
and you cant shoot bombs....

so copy everything except that area,
(because your pasting massive stuff, then it might take up a little more thermo, but think about it, its worth the saved time)

sounds like good advice. I tried the checkpoint test last night and she's permanently glitched in her current state. I'll try the copy thing. It's practically the entire level so I may have to do it in sections. Or I'll take a look at my last backup - I was going to rework a section anyway so that might be an option too.

Thanks for the info guys.

I dk about thyis, but I think my mate had this so he copied his level whilst on his moon to another location and the glitched section was gone. Don't know if it would work but if it does it aught to save you a lot of work.

My son did this in a level of his not too long ago. I was able to fix it by zooming out REALLY far and selecting practically everything in the level. It was able to select those areas when I did this.... then I deleted the whole thing... then did a rewind and it fixed it. The objects didn't come back during the rewind.

I have no idea whether this will work in your case, but I would definately backup before trying it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I do have it backed up and I won't loose too much depending on which of these fixes work/don't work for me. After loosing CS3 and rebuilding it I went out and bought a flash drive so I have backups from ever few days.

I'll try that fix too.

This has happened to me a LOT since CY. I've found the easiest way to get rid of these is to pick a material and draw a box around the offending items, so they are embedded into the material. Then select it all and hold triangle to delete it. This sometimes leaves behind parts of what you tried to delete, but just delete them again.
This has always worked for me and is quite a quick fix.
Hope it helps.

Try turning the immovable objects to dissolve, attaching a paint switch, and then inverting it to activate it. If it allows for it to be done, it should work.

I have had that before though, where I had magnetic keys off emitted explosives set to visible and piling up, and then the remaining mag key post-explosion couldn't be selected or touched.

Cool - I'll try that too. So far no luck with getting them fixed but I'll try frogmeister & ninjamc's suggestions too.2009-05-20 21:17:00

Does it work if you try to put material OVER the glitched material since it's pretty much non-existent to whatever you pretty much try to do. Maybe you have to think of it as blank space.2009-05-20 21:36:00

I can put material over and through it all except for the front thin layer. Not sure why. The issue I had with that solution is that I would prefer not to have the buggy material in the level for fear of it happening somewhere else in the level too. I've got a backup as a last resort but I'm trying all the suggestions I'm getting here to see if one of them would work if I had no other options.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

If you can't draw over it in the front thin layer, try getting a big thin sheet of a matierial and smashing it. it should work for everything except dark matter.
Hope that helps!

That's an interesting idea too. I don't think it will work as I can move stuff through it. I have tried to connect dark matter to it to glue it so I could try to delete it but the materials I try to add go right through it.

I'll have to test that too. Thanks for the suggestion.
