Creature Brain Question?

Archive: 8 posts

What is the difference between the two brains available in LBP. One is called "protected", the other "unprotected". Sounds obvious right? But why do both have the option "Vulnerable?" I experiented but didn't notice any difference.

Also, how do you get the brains that have the sheild opening and closing? I figured that these would be "protected brains" but when I use those they never open and close?

Anyone know if I am just stupid or blind? don't answer that last question though

Protected brains can NEVER be popped by a sackperson, unprotected ones can. The vulnerability has something to do with switches- as you can use a switch set to one shot to pop brains only if they're vulnerable.

Brains with shields opening and closing... do you mean like the butler enemies in The Wedding? Those are actually a half circle of electrified material, with a brain on the other side- so when the thing rotates, it changes from brain up to hazard up.

I thought the vulnerability was if it could be crushed and such, but then again i always do remember that switches made it pop only when on vulnerable.....

Its possible that it has something to do with other things... this is just my experience. But whether it can be crushed or not, i doubt... or we'd end up with invulnerable brains D: You can crush anything but dark matter if you have big enough a rock

Awesome! I finally know. Thanks.

They should have included a brain that already had a sheild mechanism on it. I honestly thought that thay had done that whenever I saw the Butlers. Oh well. This gives me some ideas though.

The vunerability option on brains is used to make your creature weak to fire, electricity, plasma etc. so for example you could have a creature chasing you and you have to lure it onto some fire and then it dies.
Hope that helps,

Yes this helps. Saves me from having to do more experiments. Thanks Satan

It rarely seems to work, though...

There's a couple of glitches you can (or could?) do which take advantage of this part of creature behavior - basically, create a simple walking creature, set it to "vulnerable", then make it walk into some plasma in create mode, pause, capture it and clone it... with that procedure you could get materials which the sackboy could pass through freely, or normal materials with plasma-style lethal effects on them. The problem was it was tough to get the creature to actually die from contact with the plasma. You had to make the plasma run into its leg, and even then it was pretty much hit-or-miss as to whether it would actually work.
