Tony Hawk Ride will take advantage of a brand new skateboard peripheral (pictured above) and, according to the program, will be available on all current generation home consoles: Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Looks pretty cool, it will be interesting to see how the peripheral works out.

Im skeptical of this peripheral. Skeptical its gonna be viable, skeptical of falling down/over. Interesting to see how it works.2009-05-16 19:05:00

It seems like an interesting concept, but wouldn't it be really hard, and dangerous? You could probably fall off quite easily. Plus it seems a little too gimmicky for my tastes.2009-05-17 20:56:00

Seeing as Tony Hawk is probably going to test it, I think the peripheral should work effectively. Hopefully they don't expect us to actually flip the board and crap, because my brother skateboards. I try to ollie on that thing and I usually kill myself.2009-05-18 06:06:00

i Think it will fail - If i want to skate i'll go grab my board - well i would ahve done, but i snapped all the ligaments in my knee skating so i havent been able to skate or run propely or anything for the last 2 years, so this perhiperal won;t be any good to me anyways, and skates awesome flick-it controls and realism win all the time over TH.2009-05-18 19:38:00

Well if I wanted to steal cars I'd do it in REAL life. If I wanted to make little cloth guys run around in levels I designed I'd do it in real life. If I wanted to get animals to fight other people for me I'd do it in real life. If I wanted to shoot evil infected African people with a rocket with infinite ammo, I'd do it in real life. >_<

I SO agree, people say that for pretty much every game, and we all would.

That's the thing though - if you want realistic skating, you CAN actually skate, if you want to kill someone though, you have to be in the army or it's illegal obviously. If i want to kill someone i'll go on CoD, if i want to skate i WOULD skate, 'cept i can't anymore so i'll go on skate, instead of some game with a cheap perhiperal which actually won't be cheap, but it will be cheap to make, will always break, and will detract from the fun of the game when you get annoyed because it doesn't work OR you fall of and crack your head on something....2009-05-19 14:09:00

Doesn't apply here.

As maid3nfan said, skating is something you can actually do. Also, this peripheral is trying to get as close as it can to skating. I really don't see the point in this. Skate is smart because it tries to adapt a fun & usable control system to mimic skateboarding. But this looks just to be trying to directly copy skateboarding as much as possible while standing on a board in one spot. That to me isn't very creative, and no doubt would bore me. I can skate, and if i wanted to stand on a board and skate, I'd go outside to. Not play Ride. Tony Hawk games have clearly had their day now.
I play videogames to sit down and relax One big reason I don't play my brothers Wii much, lol.

This is a rehash of the balance board.

The balance board sucks.

No, really, i'll be interested to see how it works.

I can't wait to get the sneaking suit for MGS5. If you jump, you jump in the game. If you run on the spot... you... um.. run on the spot in game....

If I wanted to stop the Patriots, I'd do it in real life.

WTB Star Trek virtual reality room. I'd play MGS for 12 hours a day in that.

So, if I'm looking for a realistic LBP experience, I can't make little levels out of cardboard then get sack puppets and take puppeteer classes?

I can't murder someone? I can't steals cars? Apparently you're forgetting: Real skating is way harder than Skate, despite it's "realism". In real life, I can't grind telephone poles or jump up onto rooftops with ease. See, I'm not looking for a realistic skating game. I'm looking for a fun control scheme.

Update: While Activision confirmed on the phone this morning that the game was to be a 360 exclusive in the UK, a promised press release has failed to materialise and multiple sources are reporting that the deal has yet to be done. There?s an update on MCV.

Update 2: For the sake of clarity, here?s the original announcement in its entirety. This was sent out by UK PR firm Frank PR this morning in an email headed, ?INFO MAILER: UK PLATFORM EXCLUSIVE FOR TONY HAWK: RIDE?:

Hi all

Further to Monday?s announcement regarding Tony Hawk: RIDE, Activision UK is pleased to announce that this title will be launched later this year in the UK, as an Xbox 360(r) platform exclusive.

Tony Hawk: RIDE features a wireless skateboard controller designed in conjunction with the game to offer a dynamic gaming experience. Using a combination of accelerometers and motion sensors, the intuitive controller allows players to physically control the action by performing various movements and gestures on the board that directly translate into amazing tricks in the game. Without complex button combinations or analogue sticks, gamers of all skill levels can literally step on the board and play!

Original story:

Activision just announced that Tony Hawk Ride is to be a 360 exclusive in the UK.

The game - plastic skateboard and all - was announced last week for 360, PS3 and Wii.

We?ve just been told the deal is a UK-only affair, so those in the rest of Europe and the US aren?t likely to be affected.

Exclusives are just getting silly now.

Wow, that's just ridiculous. I don't care about the game, but how stupid is this!? We can easily import the game anyway. God this is stupid.2009-05-22 01:58:00
