Corrupted data a LBP threat?

Archive: 9 posts

On 5/13/09 all of my LBP data was erased, and I decided to make a thread trying to get somepeoples opinions. I got a shocking result people without ever experiancing the problem claimed it was my fault and I should I have been more aware partly this is true but MM should do a better job of making the problem known and having a warning messages whenever you boot up the game. Im not asking for simpathy or for this thread to arrise in a fanfare. Since i didn't know about this problem I coulnd't fully prepare it has happened to me in smaller proportions but not as big of a data loss as this. Before criticizing me take this into consideration, please don't tell me what I have to do and what am I doing wrong nor try to tell me what I did wrong with an insulting tone. Also realize that SOME of you have not experianced what I have. This thread has been made to make some people aware and a discussion about data loss and a possible solution? or other necesary procautions to help secure your creations!2009-05-15 07:13:00

Dude, my heart goes out to you... a lot of people did blame and instruct you on your last post of this topic, however, there were some posts that supported you and thanked you for bringing the topic to the forefront of the communities' mind. (mine being one of them) However, as the last thread went on... it seemed atleast to me, that you were not interested in healing or moving forward. You seemed to wallow and enjoy the attention of rally against LBP and the community more than actual words of consolation that were directed to you. I still feel for your loss and thank you for your time and efforts and hope you get back to playing and creating asap! Only then will you begin to surpass your previous highwater creations which you now hold on a glowing pedestal. The last post on this subject was a logical out-pouring of a intolerable situation... it made sense. This post is not about educating the community, it is about you, your injury, your injustice. Don't be surprised by what you're gonna read. You started this thread once already and did not like where it went.2009-05-15 07:59:00

You want solutions?

Wait for a patch.

Precautions?

Back up your data.

That enough for ya? Oh wait you already know that since it was posted like ten times in the thread that the admin closed. If I where you I'd try to cool off a little, have a cup of tea or whatever beaverage suits your cultural needs and come back in a few days and actually use the advice given.

Im not mad nor asking for simpathy and I did take things into consideration and Im not trying to turn this thread into a fanfare so I will not respond to things I don't want to hear, Im waiting for a patch to permanetly solve the solution. Im not going to create now because Im very busy now a days and thats being pushed farther because of the economy and I just don't have the time to recreate everything. I hope this thread is not about me but aimed twards letting people now the problem at hand because I did not, and I do thank the people that gave me adivse and did not repeat it I did not show that but I do thank those individuals2009-05-15 16:11:00

Everyone is sympathetic to your loss, but no one can do anything about it.

The game is well known for data loss and PS3s are well known for hardware failures, resulting in data loss. Furthermore, data loss is not localised to this game or platform. It happens in every computer system around the world, and you claim to be unaware? Are you honestly telling me that you have never experienced data, or heard of data loss before? This isn't me flaming, I'm just can't believe you are claiming to have been unaware that computer systems fail.

And, much as you don't want to hear it, the only solution to data loss is duplication. Period. My company spends hundreds of dollars, per person per year, for backup and source control solutions and guess what, data still gets lost every now and again. It is not possible to solve this problem, and even if it was, no one here could do anything about it.

As for other people not experiencing this problem, maybe they haven't in LBP but they probably have somewhere else, I can't think of many people who have never lost data from a computer system.

of coarse I've heared of data loss but not on a console, im not scowering the web to figure out every problem the system has, and Im not getting the posts I'd wish some people rather than posting about data loss they try to argue against me don't post against me2009-05-15 17:20:00

I'd never really had data loss on a console either.... however, #1 - there has never been a hard drive in a console before the XBox360 and PS3.... #2 - LittleBigPlanet is not really a game in the sense we are using it, it's a platform. And as a programmer, I can tell you I've lost data in platforms running on hard drives.

I'm sorry it happened to you... I also lost all my data in LittleBigPlanet at one point but my backups and published levels saved me from the frustration you've had to go through. Since LittleBigPlanet allows you to create games, it's much more open ended than other games and there is no way they could guarrantee you will not lose data.

Also, I had also lost all my data in Oblivion on the XBox 360. Fortunately, I had made a backup there too.

As games become more complex, and we use platforms such as LittleBigPlanet, get used to having a situation you have not dealt with on earlier consoles... make regular backups.

I wish I knew about backing up data before my file went corrupt. Or at least publishing an online backup. I learned the hard way, very hard way.

It would have been nice for MM to include in one of the tutorials "It's possible, though rare, that you could lose all your data, and have to do ALL that hard work again, so back up online or use a external source just in case" But ya know, with a british accent and some cheesy jokes.

I know they have a warning at the beginning, but all games have that. No one gives thought to it anymore.

Plus my save just randomly disappeared, I have no idea why. It wasn't because the Sackboy icon was in the corner.
