Chocbo's Dungeon series

Archive: 11 posts

Hey Everyone,

I just posted up my Chocobo's Dungeon levels today! It's a series of 5 levels. You need to play one to unlock the next. The level is:

Chocobo's Dungeon - Dungeon of Fire v2

You can search my username: Thedrknss.

Remember, it's the v2, if its v1 that was my first one and wasn't as good. Basically, Chocobo and sackboy are treasure hunters but they get transported to a town called Lost Time (from the game) and find out that there is treasure in 4 dungeons. However, everytime they reach the treasure, someone steals it from them.

Hope you all like it!! There are some parts I know about that could break the level, unfortunately, it means you have to start all over

Here is how my Chocobo came out:

Some Pics and a description of the level(s) would be nice, a lot of people will be a bit more interested if they know what they're gona play.
I might check it after i'm done with the other levels on my lost.

Chocobo!

I have high hopes for this concept. Going to play it now.

Got through some of part 1. (See bugs to see why I didn't finish)

Pros:
+ The chocobo following you is nicely done!
+ Very nicely made puzzles.

Cons:
- The paintinator kind of threw the idea off... Coming from someone who has played Chocobo's Dungeon before.
- Should replace the laser balls and missiles with fire to fit the surroundings.

Bugs:
* The spring platform at the beginning of the dungeon squished me. If you don't do it just right it could pull you under.
* The second spring platform didn't shoot me high enough like three times before I finally got to the top.
* The key item in the part where you put chocobo's head back on can be broken if you grab it through the thin platform... Which I did... :[[

Overall, a good level as far as I can tell.

I'll try it again later, I'm a bit aggrivated at the moment for other reasons.

Thanks for the feedback, I made the Dungeon of Fire about 2 months ago (had to finish the rest of them before I published) and I didn't run into every bug. Some I only ran into recently.

The spring squishing you is hard to fix, I needed it to be a powerful piston in order to push you up high enough. I found if you jump on the platform, you either can fall under it or not make it high enough, but if you jump on the edge of the platform and walk to the middle, you'd make it just fine.

The key items to build are a tricky bunch, they keep breaking even on me! I'll make the platform bigger you can't grab the beak through the platform, but in the next part, it can be broken pretty badly.

Thanks DJLols! Also, unfortunately, Chocobo follows you less as you progress

Ok. Tried 1+2 out and here's what I think. Firs off I like your chocobo design it looks really good, also like the moogle kupo. The concept of the level is good, but there are some issues. First of all I don't like the look of plain dissolve material. You use quite a bit of it, so I think if you used stickers to pretty it up that would make all the difference. You can use the sticker tool to take a picture of the rock wall or whatever look you want. Second sometimes you need to open a gate for your little friend. Problem is is you have to hold the switch until little choky clears the gate. This can be troublesome because sometimes you can't see him, then you wait, and no choky. Go back to check and he's stuck under the gate. What you need to do is put a permanent switch on the gate. All you have to do is make a small square of dark matter that's as thin as it goes. Make it big enough for an emitter, and a mag key switch. Place the emitter and mag key switch on it. Now make a square of dark matter, and place the corresponding key on it. Save to your inventory. Tweak the emitter to .1 - time, lifetime- infinite, object will be the dark matter with the key on it. Emit it right in front of the key switch. set the key switch to directional, and inverted. Now hook the original switch (the one sackboy steps on) to the emitter, and hook the mag key switch to the piston. that should do it. Next I noticed that your switches weren't glued down. That's just a petpeave of mine. Maybe you could glue them down? Now I made it past the first level, but the second level broke, so I couldn't finish it. The part where you put choky, and moogles head back on. Moogles head broke on me. An easy fix for this would be to emit a new one if the old one breaks. All you have to do is throw an emitter on the wall, and hook a mag key switch to it. Set the switch to the same color of the key that's already on the head. Tweak the switch to one shot, and inverted. Crank the radius up to encompass the whole area. Tweak the emitter to max emitted at once to 1, lifetime infinite, max emitted infinite. Make sure to emit it out of the way so your sackboy isn't in the way of it. That should do it, if the head is destroyed it will trigger the emitter to emit a new one. Now I hope you don't think I am being harsh. I'm not. I'm just trying to help you improve your level. If you get it fixed up let me know so I can try the rest.2009-05-18 02:18:00

Thanks for playing my level! I will definitely need to fix that part where you build Chocobo and Moogle. Seems to create the worst of the problems. I will work on this and republish the level! I'll let you know when I do!2009-05-18 04:17:00

I have fixed the the issue where if you destroy the beak or moogle's mask when you have put them together, another one will emit. I'm not sure how the moogle's head was destroyed, but I have changed it slightly so it will fir better on the body. All the dissolve materials have stickers on them now to blend better with its surroundings. For the beginning part, I adjusted Chocobo's awareness ratio to follow you at a further distance. The first one however is not changed because there is nothing in Chocobo's way.

I hope for the most part, it won't break as easy. I know when you get to the boss, it can be frustrating, I suggest jumping off at the top (you'll see).

Any more feedback would be great! Especially for the next levels!

EDIT: Also, I've noticed people have finished my first level but no one has played the next level(s). Since I can't check on my own psn, I need to make sure I put in the right key to advance, lol. That'd be a NICE thing to know!

Well, I tried this again, and got stuck in the same part. That moogles head broke on me again. Could you put that on emitter too? The dissolve looked WAAAY better. Good job on that. Also I played the first one, and I think it would look better if you stickerd up that dissolve too. P.S. sorry about the pic I uploaded. I got stuck so I figured I might as well have a little fun.2009-05-21 00:36:00

I tried to break the Moogle's head, but I couldn't! I'll set an emitter for it. Unfortunately, I am out of town and away from my ps3 so I won't get to until a week and a half from now. I'll let you know when it's done.

The other Chocobo level is about done, it was the original one. Way too easy, so I remade it. I've got no worries to sticker up the other one.
