Random Polygon Stretch Glitch
Archive: 16 posts
For some reason from time to time polygons of either your Sackboy or other objects will stretch to some crazy length and form this weird wall on the screen. I've attached some images. The Sackboy in the images has the dragon hat on. The tarp on the back is what's stretching. Has anyone else ever seen this before? http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=523&stc=1&d=1242342090 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=524&stc=1&d=1242342090 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=525&stc=1&d=1242342090 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=526&stc=1&d=1242342090 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=527&d=1242263424 | 2009-05-14 02:10:00 Author: Unknown User |
That looks kind of similar to when sackboy used to try to grab something and ended up with his arms stretched across the screen...but Mm fixed that... | 2009-05-14 02:13:00 Author: Theap Pleman Posts: 670 |
Usually is just lag... Altho i found (invented maybe?) a way to make this or something ;ilke it at will | 2009-05-14 02:18:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
And how would you do that Silverleon? | 2009-05-14 02:31:00 Author: Unknown User |
I can't tell you yet...(yes i know how to do it, no i can't tell you for a reason) BUT i can bring some pics of some that i do | 2009-05-14 02:36:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
I'd love to see those! Guess I'll have to wait for the how-to. You are going to tell eventually right? | 2009-05-14 02:39:00 Author: Unknown User |
Oh, indeed i am! Along with all of these glitches http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/album.php?albumid=384 An album with some of the glitches i've found/invented that can be seen in a picture. (at least no one has mentioned them before) | 2009-05-14 03:27:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
That looks kind of similar to when sackboy used to try to grab something and ended up with his arms stretched across the screen...but Mm fixed that... It happened to me this morning.. so they obviously didn't fix it up very well = | 2009-05-14 17:31:00 Author: Pinchanzee Posts: 805 |

Never seen this before... And Silverleon, you can't 'invent' glitches. | 2009-05-14 18:18:00 Author: ARD Posts: 4291 |
MM did fix the strechy arm glitch, it was re-found by a couple people, it involves the thing your holding onto being loaded with explosives and it being detonated, at least thats the way ive seen | 2009-05-14 19:07:00 Author: redmagus Posts: 667 |
Oh oh this is a bad sign. I can tell you from my PC experience that this is a sign for an overheated graphics card. Is your PS3 standing open so the hot air can vent? Does this bug appear after a few minutes of playing or right away? | 2009-05-15 09:06:00 Author: Fjonan Posts: 359 |
This only happens to me when there is a lot of online lag. My sackboys' feet will be standing on the far left with his body on the right. It is quite funny sometimes. | 2009-05-15 09:20:00 Author: Zwollie Posts: 2173 |
The stretching feet and arms are something completely different then a polygon that goes to infinity. The Body of the Sackboy are realized with something called "Bones". this is a simple skelleton which gets attached to the various polygons of the Sackboy model. Now the programmer simply has to move the virtual bone and not every single polygon to animate the Sackboy. If ... for example because of lag. The Foot-Bone is still standing on the left, and all the other bones on the right, your character gets streched. The effect with the large polygons however is - and this is just a guess since i am not int the hardware of cards in detail - an error in calculation the position of the corner-points called vertices. If such a vertex is somwhere the polygon gets streched. My bet is still on the heat of the graphics card. | 2009-05-15 11:31:00 Author: Fjonan Posts: 359 |
That's weird. I've had that thing where sackboy's arms stretch to a ridiculous length, but Mm fixed that, but nothing that strange. It looks kinda funny though. | 2009-05-16 17:37:00 Author: lk9988 Posts: 1077 |
Fjonan, I've seen this happen a couple of times before and my PS3 gets plenty of air circulation. It usually happens well into a game and not immediately upon startup. I play LBP a lot but not excessively as in not 3 or more hours at a time. An interesting thing I noticed was the time between the Sackboy stretching and the banana stem stretching was only a few minutes, which logically can justify your theory of heat buildup. I've never had any heat issues and none of my hardware components have ever failed. My PS3 has never run so hot that I've ever gotten concerned either. | 2009-05-17 03:15:00 Author: Unknown User |
