Point bubbles disappear after getting shot?
Archive: 11 posts
Ok this is weird. I was just messing around and started randomely shooting some point bubbles that were glued to the floor and eventually they DISAPPEARED. Anyone else encounter this? | 2009-05-13 22:31:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |
Never heard of this.... Perhaps you just broke it/them? | 2009-05-13 22:41:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
I just repeated it... strange... some point balls I can hit, some of them the paint blob goes right through. I'm definitely not collecting the ball, my score doesn't change. This is very peculiar. | 2009-05-13 22:46:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |
Yeah! Awesome isn't it? This is used as a primary strategy in Splat Invaders - when you shoot the invaders point bubbles fall out, but if you just blindly shoot up in the air the paint lands on the bubbles, sometimes destroying them. I noticed this pretty much right after the MGS pack came out. | 2009-05-13 23:48:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
This must have something to do with paintballs also disappearing when emitted. Cornish Yarg set a 3 second time limit for paintballs. Do the score bubbles also last that long? I think MM applied the limit to make capturing them darn near impossible. | 2009-05-14 02:37:00 Author: Unknown User |
I figured it had more to do with the pressure on them then the paint itself, but it just happened in such a weird way. I guess this is a feature, not a defect? lol | 2009-05-14 12:30:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |
Could be a defect, but I use it as a feature. Something to keep in mind with the paintinator, however - the pressure from the paint balls can actually break lighter material, such as dissolve. If you're trying to use a paintinator switch on a piece of dissolve or cardboard, there's the possibility the material could be destroyed and the switch never go off..... In these cases, I would suggest instead also having a magnetic key on the material, and a magnetic switch fire if the key disappears. This solves the whole issue. | 2009-05-14 13:35:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
Oh I know about the paintgun exerting that much pressure on objects, it's just I've never seen point bubbles break under pressure before. It doesn't make a cracking solve or have that gaseous dissolve cloud, it just vanishes from sight. The odd thing is I can only do it on some but not others, ah well, time to play around with crushing point bubbles for no particular reason. | 2009-05-14 19:08:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |
Maybe (can't confirm that) there is some kind of "health" to them, so like bubbles that already took pressure tend to break others don't. Just a thought. | 2009-05-15 09:04:00 Author: Fjonan Posts: 359 |
Maybe the paintballs dissapear and take the points with them? | 2009-05-15 22:12:00 Author: dkjestrup Posts: 672 |
I'm going to go with either the paintballs crushing the points, or it's to do with the stickering. | 2009-05-15 23:22:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
