I think you can pretty much guarantee we'll get a good look at this at E3

Also... the magazine had the date of the 18th... so maybe it will get properly revealed then

EDIT: Okay! There is now a timer that's counting down to friday (i think?).
I'm not sure when E3 is... so is this just another countdown timer to their own schedule? Do you think the site opens then? We'll see...

We don't know, but it's worth noting this: Scuttlebutt has it that Raiden might be the hero of MGS5, and Raiden's motif is thunder and lightning. There's plenty of both in the teaser... heck, "thunder and lightning" is even what Raiden means. We're just sayin'.
UPDATE: Flash sleuths at NeoGAF have determined that the teaser site may host four more countdowns, the last of which is set to end June 1, the first day of E3.
Just think about the potential: An announcement of an announcement of an announcement of an announcement of an announcement of an announcement of an announcement. Only from master media manipulator Hideo Kojima, ladies and gentlemen.

An email from a Konami source warns that something is coming in "T -3 days".

Curious what the folks at Kojima Productions have been up to since they shipped Metal Gear Solid 4 nearly a year ago? Of course you are. That's why we're pretty sure you'll be just as perplexed and intrigued as we were when you see the cryptic email we received from a source within Konami early this morning.

Bearing the subject line "T -3 days" and containing only a link (http://www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/next) pointing to a currently barren section of Konami's Japanese website, the email message appears to be a dead end -- for now. You'd better believe we'll be checking back regularly over the next few days to see if anything actually comes of this tease, though.

It was just yesterday that we told you about a vague teaser from Konami that seemed to imply an upcoming reveal of Kojima Productions' next game happening in a few days. Well, the page Konami linked to is still nonexistent, but in this week's latest issue of Japanese game magazine Famitsu, a similar tease has been revealed to the public via a two-page ad, showing a field with some omnious-as-hell clouds in the sky, and the date May 18, 2009.
But we're not convinced that this is a simple photo of some wetlands. Surely this must have elements of whatever Kojima could be working on and preparing to reveal on the 18th. Read on to see just a few things we spotted in the photo so far.

I'm not a big fan of Raiden. Hated him ever since they forced me to play as him after 30 minutes of playing as snake in MGS2. No ammount of cool sword fights or ninja suits can redeem him.

But anything Metal Gear Canon will make me happy. Even if MGS5 was all about raiden, I would eat that up.		2009-05-13 16:53:00

I dunno about that... if they were doing a Raiden game, the best bet would be when he rescued sunny from the patriots in area 51. Then got caught and became the ninja he is now. Have two separate playing parts to the game... would be pretty cool.

That is a REALLY interesting theory, which may be not that far from reality.

Yeah it could well be I dunno though... i just never thought kojima would do the remakes. And also... what was this about then:

Then im thinkin not a remake of MGS1 and 2, but an entire new game focusing on Jaegers life/career during MGS1 and 2.

So in terms of the project stated in the OP... maybe a new IP, the next MGS or something else we haven't thought of. Clearly not snatcher or ZOE3.
I would LOVE ZOE3... but the picture clearly isn't that xD

Hammy: Yeah the area 51 story was mentioned in like... a sentence It's actually in more detail on the MGS database you can download on PSN. You should definatly get it. It's free, and won't spoil anything in MGS4 until you have completed it. It tracks your game save.		2009-05-13 19:21:00

Yup! It certainly looks more like a cane than a sword.
And i thought about this... and was confused by what it meant.
Last years april fools was young snake in shadow moses (the first time shadow moses was revealed too!). So i don't know how much truth the Cambell thing has to it.
I didn't bring it up though cause it really confuses stuff

I don't know if that's a hint that it's been planned for a long time, but this is most likely anyway at the moment.
Afterall, Raiden does directly translate to Thunder and Lightning.
I mean... c'mon. Then end of MGS4... (spoilers)
when raiden had no arms and controlled lightning... and was on about him being the storm or whatever mumbo jumbo the half dead geezer was on about.

Hahahaha, same xD Though what I mentioned before about it looking like a Cane in the raiden picture... i forgot there were dangly bits on the end of the sword handle

Plus Raiden's story pretty much ended in MGS4, and to make a sequel where he goes back into action kinda ruins the point of that...

Like Rocksauron said, raidens story was effectively ended in MGS4, but as well as snakes, the patriots, ocelot, everrrybody. To do a sequel after the events of MGS4 would ruin the game. They'd either have to bring snake and/or raiden back into action for some crazy reason (see mgs1) and they'd have to revive ocelot/liquid in some crazy way (see mgs2). Or introduce a whole new cast that would ruin the MGS line.

I'll say it again, the only Raiden story that would seem to best fit a new game for the series would be when Raiden is how we knew him in MGS2, set after MGS2 when he goes to rescue Sunny from the patriots from Area 51. He succeeds, but then gets caught and is experimented on (like Gray Fox) and is turned into the Raiden we know in MGS4. The story could then be him escaping... but I don't know what else they could fit in. That's all I can think of, and it would be pretty cool to play half the game as normal Raiden and half as ninja Raiden. We'll see though.2009-05-18 22:13:00

They must of done some insane experientation. But they could make Area-51 a pretty crazy level. They could make some of the game Raiden trying to figure out where she is, and then Area-51 it's own thing. (They would have a lot to work with in there.) Some cool unique bosses and stuff. But ya I wouldn't be opposed to a half normal / half ninja. IDK I just think it would be really fun to be ninja-raiden.

I didn't even know about the Gray-Fox experiments. Man I really need to play through all these games again...Such a huge time investment but it's worth it. And / Or read the wikipedia on MGS. I still need to beat 4 though 		2009-05-18 22:26:00

Sorry, i need to correct myself. He was 'rebuilt' so to say. In MG2 when you fight and kill him, he is later saved by being made into the cyborg ninja we knew him as. He was also Null in MGSortable Ops. And you saved him in MG1 i think. I've completed MG1 and MG2, but it's hard to remember the details of both

I gotta say one of the most fun moments of MGS was in MGS VR Missions (a seperate game) you could unlock the ninja in 3 vr missions. It was awesome:

I didn't like Raiden in mgs2 but he was okay in 4. But I don't want to play him as a the main character ever! The series now has so many games and so much to offer that I wouldn't mind waiting for a new metal gear a few more years. I've played through 4 twice. Lol, I suppose if you look at just how it appears you can get away with it. Trying to explain the story of MGS is just **** hard.
Just wait till you have to explain Ocelot/Liquid Ocelot and his doings xD Or even harder, Big Boss's

You should ignore the April 2007 bit. What they did is use a grindhouse template for their site. And didn't expect people to find it through changing stuff on the site.

I'm not sure when it ends, maybe it could be June 2nd. I've only read June 1st afterall. But I still think it would make more sense to update the day before. That way everyone can see it before the conference.
Kojima Productions have never done anything properly with MS, but then again i suppose they could start now. I wouldn't mind too much if MGS went to 360, but I would be quite disappointed Sony lost one of their best exclusives. But For now, I don't think that's the case.		2009-05-19 11:04:00

I would never, ever, EVER! expect sony to give up metal gear. EVER! It made me trade in my 18 some games, 2 guitars, and my first 360 for the 40g ps3 and MGS4. Sony will never underestimate the power of MGS. EDIT : well sony has been failing on alot of aspects this generation so i guess i shouldnt put them giving up MGS as an exclusive to be that crazy an idea. Plus Microsoft has been paying people big bucks to do crazy stuff...

New info and a new countdown! Site updated with a picture of a young Big Boss flashing on the screen. His hat says Militares Sans Frontieres, or Soldiers Without Borders.

Letters/numbers that appear on screen are now 3, P, S, E, e, and R (only saw the P once, sat thru the letters 2x [kinda, once it skipped the P I waited for 1 more)

Holy heck, I just visited the site for the first time in a week. First I started hypying out at how the site looked, noticing the stormier weather, the background letters (An R? An E? An S? Haha nah i suppose it is. I wouldn't be suprised if it's set in two different eras. 2 fairly normal sized games (bit smaller than MGS4) in 1. Or one on PSP, one on PS3.

I have a feeling Kojima isn't directing this new xbox one at all (can anyone confirm this?) Afterall, he did say he didn't really want to have to direct another one, he always wanted to move onto an entirely new series/game. Which I seriously agree with. MGS4 was a lovely end to such an impressive series. It really payed tribute to all the games that came before, cept for maybe Revolver Ocelot, who was kinda smothered by Liquids character (what an annoying prat)...

Pc on release? Thats pretty crazy, I imagine the specs will be lower than those of MGS4 then, if its out on xbox and pc. Ah well, seeing as the main character is Raiden, who at this point must be uber l33t, the gameplay could be completely different. Raiden is all about using his environment and performing acrobatics and dance sequences in order to kill his opponents so it might not be as sneaky as the other mgs's.2009-06-02 00:33:00

Last time I checked 360 and PS3 games looked pretty much the same. But I can see the problem with the 360 capacity because Kojima always upgrades his technology. I don't think he would want to take a step back. So I'm really curious to see if this new MG game will come out on both the 360 and the PS3. As long as it's on PS3 I don't mind.

We shouldn't be too suprised it's a multiplatform game. After all, MGS1 was ported to PC, MGS2 was ported to XBOX and PC, and the franchise didn't even start on Playstation.		2009-06-02 13:29:00

Yeah, I definitely have a feeling this isn't gonna have the same mechanics as the other metal gears. Mostly hinted by the fact that it says "Lightening Bolt Action" beside the title.

Exactly. I really love the look of the PSP Go... the size and portability is so attractive. And if the PSN store can pick up with small independent games like the app store, it has massive potential to be a sure winner. But some games (particularly MGS) i like to have the physical thing :/

But i do like the PSP 2000 for other reasons... loloz.

hmmm. It will be a Stealth Action game.
With PW being made by the MGS4 staff, that could be the better game :O

Well, I'm looking forward to both mgs games...just hope the rising can live up to the series.

They should already have the game engine from mgs4, they just need to get everything else right...(sure, that's a lot, but still...)

I've been googling around and it seems Kojima has spilled some info on Peace Walker. There will be a character growth system, plenty of challenges and some type of system where you can strategically choose what type of gear setup to use for different gameplay tactics. MGS3 is one of my favourite games and I'm really hyped about this one. It's a sequel to 3. It has the look and feel of 3 and the trailer more than hints at co-op. Kojima has said there will be great replayability. Just like with MGS4. The MGS4 team is working on it and they're "striving for MGS4 quality". I can't wait.2009-08-04 21:46:00
