Editing this thread rather than making a new one.

Being new at this game I was wondering if somebody could give me some idea's of slightly complex puzzles, (anything at all, even "booby traps" thats if you can make them) as I've been practising and all I'm doing is using the same stuff over again, simple 1 switches on each thing.

Thanks!

If I understand this correctly, you are making carpet by stickering cardboard, and want to add cardboard so the carpet sticker pattern continues? I'm afraid there is currently no way of adding a "texture" like this to a material. What I'd recommend is using something like a patterned sponge as your carpet. It'd be a lot easier to continue on until the end of the level, I should think.2009-05-12 19:42:00

Well mate, I had a flooring 'block' made from cardboard, and made a patterened carpet onto that block. Then I needed to copy/duplicate that block with the pattern on, to place at the side of the first. Then repeat. (Maybe I should have explained it like this at the beginning, it seems easier to explain now, lol)

But yeah, it was just duplicating the cardboard and not the pattern.

And Thanks Killian, I'll keep that in mind.

Hi Southpaw and welcome.

Well what you are doing should work as far as i know. You should be able to select the part you want to copy with the cursor by pressing x as though you are going to pick it up but instead press L3 to duplicate it and then move it into position and place it. That should copy it exactly as long as you aren't placing it in a position where it embeds into something else in which case that would remove the stickers.

If that could be happening try placing it in open space somewhere and then moving it into position using the grid. If it still doesn't work then it may be a new bug since the recent CY update. There have been a few.

Hope you get it sorted soon anyway.

mistervista is right. By copying an object with L3 it makes it a custom "brush" (like the circle/square/etc. you can choose) that you can draw with, and should include stickers.2009-05-12 22:11:00

Thanks alot it works now! and thanks for the welcome.

I been practising, I made a switch trigger to bring down a dissolvable wall, i had the trigger in a object bubble which u need to collect in order to use it, however, when i start to play the level, i have the trigger from the start.

Is this because I made it, or will everybody who play my level have it straight away? Becuase I'd prefer them to find it in order to dissolve to wall. (the switch trigger is a custom sticker)

Thanks.

Edit: Oh, I've found that the switch magnet works better for that.

Myself not being a super creator I may only give you a small idea but if you want to learn different traps and what not to do maybe you should search for levels that describe different types of switches. I know what was very helpful to me was to look at levels that described what different logic gates(types of switches) can do. A good start would be the one that ConfusedCartman made awhile back. Search for him "@ConfusedCartman" in the text search and see if that sparks any ideas. If he no longer has that level published just search logic gates and you will get a flood of hits....good luck!!!2009-05-14 22:00:00

The best way I've found to get new ideas or spark creativity is to play a bunch of highly rated community levels. Don't steal their ideas but try to think of different ways you could do the same sort of challenge or put combinations of challenges in a different pattern to make the challenge a little harder. Check out Flaming Timberland for some really innovative platforming challenges. I can't think of a really good puzzler example right now but dkjestrup's Sonnet of the Gargoyle level has some interesting platform puzzles in it.

Its not about how many switches you use, its about what you do with them.
As an example, i made a trap, that requires about 20 moving objects at the same time, first i made a bunch of switches and logic boxes and stuff, then i realized i could simply use one switch and 2 logic boxes to make it all work...
Or you don't NEED swithes for all traps, some traps you can do by just making a small puzzle or something.
Lets start with some basic traps traps.
-A hazardised wall moving slowly down that gives just about enough time for the player to pass.
-A large platform electrified or in fire and some smallish places to land so not to fall into the hazard.
-A moving spiked/hazardised object going up down or left and right where the player has to either jump it or get into a "safe area" to avid it.
-A long jump with hazardised bottom. (Add some stuff falling for extra cchallenge)
-A hang-jump (Celling made of grabbable material wihth hazard below, making the player have to hang jump)
And many more!

No I understand that and those are great ideas but to make most traps you do need to understand the switches.

Well actually that's just a few traps, i could've gone on for a long while, but the PS3's text limit ended up about there...
And that's onlt for maost complicated traps, i got 1 1/2 levels that are almost pure traps and don't need switches, only one or two, you just have to think it up a little and come up with a weird up design of your own traps.
Its not too hard if you just think of a base for the trap and then think up the rest.

Wait can you really drag stickers to make custom shapes and what not because when I select a red sticker square and try hitting L3 nothing happens, so please tell me what to do because I was needing to do this in my level and was getting frustrated that I couldn't.

Back on topic:

You can also go into the story levels and get inspurtion from them, just when you play through play very slowly and try to figure out how they make the things they make. Not always easy but maybe helpful.

Thanks everyone!

This should help me alot, as all I was doing, was making things like dissolvable wall's which were deactivated by dragging the "key" to the magnetic switch. lol.
