Syroc's Level Shack

Instead of making a new thread asking for feedback every time I publish a new level I choose to create just this one. Here I will show off all my levels, or rather all which are currently playable plus one or two of the levels I'm working on.

Anyway, lets get it started.

A Journey

This level takes you through several different themes. Sit back and enjoy the sights and sounds of the next part in the ToS series.

ToS2 - On the Island of Sultan Cazimi

If you have finished the prequel you probably can guess where this level will take you. That's right you will visit the flying island of the mystical Sultan Cazimi. Many storys have been told about this island. How many of them were true? You will find out soon enough.

I've been working on this level since I released Japanese Garden back in January. Every few weeks I discarded some section and replaced them with others, changed the looks and added new contraptions.
I had to wait for Cornish Yarg to get released, because the whole level was more or less planned with the global setting switch in mind.
There were about 3 different final bosses, each of them took days to make, but at least it taught me a bit about logic and boss making.
But now I'm done and really want to move on to the next level to make use of the ideas that came to me while I was creating ToS2.

ToS - The Valley of Birds

YouTube - ToS - The Vally of the Birds

A lone desert village is terrorised by birds of prey. Can you help the scared villagers?

Like Japanese Garden (see below) there are two paths, but this time around they are both open to all. So even if you play on your own you can access them and gain more points. Of course it would be boring if I just showed you where that second path with the extra points is so you'll have to look out for it if you want to be the number one.
Don't worry though, one of the villagers will give you a hint.

Japanese Garden

YouTube - Japanese Garden

This level has a Japanese theme, it's more or less a simple jump and run level with only really two challenging sections but you will never encounter both in go since this level has two paths, one for lone Sackboys and one for social Sackboys and Girls.
Have a look. If you played it previously or have seen it in the MM picks you may notice that I've given it a complete overhaul.

Snowys Little Adventure

YouTube - Snowys Little Adventure

This was the first level I published with the full version in my hands
A little snowflake got lost in the mountains and you are supposed to bring him back to the rest of his family in the sky.
It isn't the most complicated level, just simple fun and everyone can manage to get through it without dying. I hope.

Note: I have made some changes based on the video above.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3657/3515860266_08a2f46c9e_o.jpg

Lost Temple

I approached this level completely different to those that I made during the beta. Instead of creating the environment first I just started with the contraptions and connected them loosely with tunnels made out of basic wood. (This is why all the things you can win are made out of basic wood.)
Once I was happy with the contraption/obstacles I started thinking about a theme.

Operation Sackeater

Old video (http://www.eurogamer.de/videos/exklusiv_littlebigplanet_operation-sackeater)

This I created during the beta and it is the second level I've created. Apparently it is inspired by MGS, at least that's what the people who first tested it thought, hence the name. The truth is I've never played Metal Gear and only implemented the exclamation marks and such after someone suggested the name.
I have updated it since then with some content from the MGS DLC, like music and sound effects.

Fun fact: It took me an hour to build that jeep. ^.^

Speedmapping 1

This too was created during the beta.
It's very simple but there is a reason for that: I only gave myself one hour to build it.
I have to admit that I fixed two possibly game breaking section so it's more a 1 hour and ten minutes level now.

Let's Play Football

This is just a minigame really and it's best to play it in multiplayer, for obvious reasons.
It was my first attempt on a top down football level (soccer that is to you Americans) and really simple. I tried implementing a counter so players wouldn't have to count their goals them self but didn't manage to build one, so all you get is point bubble when you score a goal.

Dunno what`s going on in this thread but my page is all stretched out. Did you you put videos etc on the same line as each other?

I`ll check out your levels just shortly.

Strange, looks completely normal to me. The videos are all centred and but some of the text is bound to the left side, as I intended it.2009-05-09 21:48:00

Dunno what it is then, maybe a mod can help me out.

Just played 'The Birds'. Really enjoyed it. I`d suggest putting a blocker or cutting the lifespan of the flaming logs emitted by the boss so the don`t reach the checkpoint as I was killed twice as I spawned. I`d also recommend lifting the fog just a little once the boss appears simply because he was hard to see and it`s a shame your hard work goes unappreciated. There were a couple of occasions when doors or winches were unlocked where they were set to open and close once they`d been activated where having them just open or go up when you grab them would`ve been better.

Minor quibbles aside it was a very good level that I never found mysself frustrated in, looked good and was fun. 5 stars and hearted.

Glad you liked it.

The blocker is a good point and I haven't thought about putting the global switch in there, but yes it may be helpful to lift the fog a bit. I'll look into.
Thanks for the feedback.

Ok, just played you level and thought it was great!

The way you made everything reminded me of MM's levels. Not in a bad way though; the way you made everything into different parts, and the detail you put into it. The whole level had a very simplistic design, but still looked gorgeous. The platforming and puzzles were great, each keeping you in the same area for longer than usual, but not too long. Oh, I forgot to say how awesome the carpet ride at the start was, all those rocks you passed looked really neat, and gave the 'flying island' feeling. Finally, the boss was great! It had a lot of stages, and each one was very different from the last!

Now there was only one thing that needs fixing. This stopped me from completing the level. Once I had beaten the boss, a little piece of the ground came up only a tiny bit. I am betting this was supposed to come up all the way, allowing you to get in. Well, I couldn't get in. Also, the fire log things kept getting shot from the ceiling more rapidly than usual. You'll definitely want to see what happened here!

Overall it was a beautiful level, well worth playing! 5 stars and hearted!

Also, for F4F, could you please leave some feedback on my level; 'Bouncing Balls - Survival Challenge'? Thanks!

Ah, crap. I've literally tested it a hundred times and was sure that it would the thing would move.
The bit with the burning logs is intended, though.

I will try to fix that now and after that I'll give you feedback on your level.

Edit: It should work now. Please tell me if you find anything else.

First of all, WOW! your levels are ridiculously good. I await eagerly for the next.

TOS: Valley of Birds The design here was great. The pacing never felt slow. I was really suprised at the alternate path too! Haven't seen those in a while. The visuals were simplistic but really did the job. Kinda like the MM levels. Overall the level was a blast to play.
5 stars/Brilliant/Hearted!

Japanese Garden This level was quite nice. The pacing was great an it felt like a throughout nice adventure. The visuals were lovely, although I think i saw a bit of dark matter....or I'm just imagining it for sleep deprivation. What I really like though is the fact that I only played the single player campaign (no friends near at the moment). I wonder how the Co-op is. I love that your level can hold up both ways very well. Not much out there that can. Overall, nice little adventure.
4 stars/ Satisfying

ToS2 Woah! this one was just what I expected from a sequel! Fast paced, good looking, intense! The visuals were just as good as before if not better. The level was LONG! which is a good thing! You the first creator I've seen actively use the Gobal device, and I have to say. Your uses are well done. all in all this was an awesome sequel. Hope to see more! The current 3 star rating also baffles me....
5 Stars/ Brilliant/ Hearted!

:blush:Oh and can you give some F4F please on my newest level? It's in my signature below. Hope you enjoy!

Thanks very much for feedback on those levels.
The next in the series will be a while, I'm afraid. I'm about 1/4 into a level which might become part three but I also started another one which could end up being the next in the series.

[QUOTE=Noroibito;205774 The current 3 star rating also baffles me....[/QUOTE]

That's because the last 'door' didn't open after I published it, even though I tested it a hundred times before publishing. So I had to do a quick late night repair session to fix and rewire half the boss.
Luckily it works now and the star rating has gone up from 2 to 4 since then.

Once again, it's a fault with IE. In all other major browsers, the images start on a new line to preserve page width, but IE ignores page width and stretches the page to fit all of the images.

I really enjoyed part 2. I was the one that got you the 3 star rating up 4

The level is fun, looks good and has a extremely well made boss!

Question:
Where are the birds?

Suggestion:
a)At the boss, when he start shooting lasers at you it's difficult to see what laser is in what layer... Paint them differently so it's easier to dodge.
b)When u beat the boss, please make it stop falling fire boulders.

Rated 5 stars & heart!

Thanks. : )

You defeated the birds in the first level. You will never see them again. (Or will you? )

A) Done. Had to speed them up a bit though, because otherwise it'd be too easy.
B) Done.

Bah, the bit after the boss just doesn't seem to work for people and I can't do anything about it, because it works every time for me, whether I play the published version or the one on my moon.

I want a spectator mode, now. ;_;

I might do that. I made some changes to it today and will see how it goes over the next few days. If I still get comments in LBP or feedback on here mentioning that it doesn't work (and elsewhere) I will rebuild it.

Also updated ToS1 today, after graygoose suggested to use some more/different music.

There's Spectator mode:

Place a Level closer object on your spawn point have a friend playtest it, then have him/her invite you when they pass the level closer, you then join in as a spectator, because the level is closed for other players.

ill check your update on your new music, tomorrow.

Of course. : )
Started working on a new level just half an hour after I published the last one. It will be a bit pirate-y/cave/old fortress sort of level and may end up being more detailed than my previous levels. But only if I can manage to fit in a decent amount of fun gameplay as well.

And there are one or two other ideas for levels I'm playing with.

If anyone is interested in what I'm currently building here are some pictures.

This is from one of the levels I'm working on right now. It's a bit dark in the beginning, but it will probably get brighter towards the end.

This is going to be part of a boss. Not sure if I can fit it into the above level:

I usually go back to them after awhile (in this case half a year or so^.^), but only if I feel that I can add something substantial to the level without changing it completely - Japanese Garden is the odd one out.
The boss was actually one of the first criticisms I got, so I probably should have changed that earlier, but the first time I tried that the level failed to load just before I was going to publish it so I was a bit frustrated with that level and did something else instead.

I just played Valley Of Birds and poped the brain on the boss' head before shooting at it with the paintinator. Then I couldn't progress beacuse there is gas in my way . Is the paintinator switch to blame? Will the gas go away only if I shot it first?2009-08-28 01:39:00
