My level showcase - includes Lost Temple of Anubis (Mm Picks!)

Archive: 49 posts

I have made 3 levels so far and I want more people to enjoy them. I'm not really looking constructive feedback since I don't plan on changing anything...unless something is broken.

I'm basically really into decorating and artistic stuff so my levels so far aren't the most challenging.

PSN : Nattura

Lost Tomb of Anubis

This is my most recent level. It's an Egyptian themed level. It was made before the Egyptian theme pack and uses custom stickers. You basically run into a tomb out in the desert and find your way inside. Once inside you find yourself headed down the wrong way and have to work your way out.
There's really no story text included so it can be what you see or feel.
Be sure to wear your Egyptian costumes and take pictures!

MM featured this level in their latest Mmpicks.
There are some videos of the level on youtube if you look (not made by me).

Fantasy Forest

A simple relaxing level in a dark but colorful forest. Collect points, meet some creatures, and enjoy the scenery. Nothing complicated and no story. This was my 2nd level and it is mostly a visual experience.

http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/rr210/toshimomo/lbp003.jpg

Akemi Gardens

You run into a Japanese girl who needs help and you better bring her with you or you won't get very far. There are puzzles, obstacles, and a short story. This was my first level so maybe I was overly ambitious lol.

Thanks for playing!!

Oh yeah - good levels almost never pass our radar unnoticed. It's a great place to submit your levels and improve your skills, and I'm sure there's a ton of members who'd love to learn from you as well. I've yet to play your levels, but I've seen the videos of the Lost Tomb of Anubis and I can tell you're very talented.

Welcome Nattura! I remember playing your Fantasy Forest and loving it. The only drawback was that I suffered some lag, which was the engines fault.2009-05-09 00:52:00

Thanks! lol wowow people respond fast around here. I was on lbpworkshop before this and.............um yea. I'm liking this already

I wish i could make FF not lag but I think it was my fault putting too much stuff into a small area...oops. I couldn't really take it apart to fix it but I tried.

Ahhh, boys, another one to "welcome" into our clan,

Fairly soon we'll have converted you to worship the "ConfusedCubbage25" and pray you could make custom content half as good as Takelow. Thurthermore, you must conform to letting us claim you as our own...

On a more serious note, I LOVED your levels, you have serious talent. The egypt level ripped mine to shreds (although it was my first) so badly it wasn't funny!

Great to see you here, and hope you stay for the long haul. If you ever need feedback, the best option is F4F and help others first. I'd also like to add if you want to find good levels you can almost be certain that checking out the Reccomend a Creation forum will net you some fun!

lol you confused me with that! I didn't know what to name the thread...I figured listing all 3 names would be too long. But okay wooo Mmpick <3 lol

I'm just glad to still get some plays even if I'm not on "cool pages." I'm not even sure how people find my levels half the time...

lol dkjestrup o_O hi. Not sure what you're talking about but sure...I'm all yours.

thanks again to everyone =D

Welcome Naturra! Another great creator joining us. We are getting some pretty impressive guild.

I love your levels. Your gameplay won't make history maybe but dear God your so talented with scenery and looks it's not even funny. Especially Anubis Tomb, I almost fell down my chair!

F4F: feedback for feedback

Basically when you tag a thread with F4F in the level showcase it states that you are willing to return the feedback others have given you on your level.

Btw, welcome to the forums Naturra!!
Your levels are well known and lost temple of anubis was one of the first "jaw on the floor" levels I played!!

Okay, I know you aren't necessarily looking for feedback, but.... since this IS in the showcase, and I have a big mouth, here goes....

Akemi Gardens

I was playing this. The part where you're supposed to use the jetpack to put the japanese girl into the cart?.... Well, I realized I could grab the cart to open the hatch, and I hadn't seen the japanese girl.... so I flew really quick through the hatch before it closed and continued on through the entire level without the Japanese girl....

It was pretty funny. Throughout the level there would be magic mouths saying things, but no girl would be standing there. However, after using the puzzle pieces I couldn't get any further in the level because I didn't have her with me.

It was my 7-year-old that, at that point, said "Umm... Daddy? I think you were supposed to put that girl I saw in the cart"

Then I left my son to play it, and he called me a bit later to show me he had gotten the L-shaped puzzle piece wedged between some trees and couldn't continue.

Awesome level, I gave it 5 stars and a heart... but you may want to make that little latch that opens when the girl is sitting on the button close a BIT faster to prevent morons like me from messing up the level

Hey, Nattura, you made it! Glad to see you here! This forum is much better than workshop. On workshop, you'll get like two comments and then your thread will fall into oblivion for the most part. The people here really care about their creations, and it tends to be a very friendly environment.

Anyway, I am a huge fan of your levels, always have been, always will be. Anubis is in my top five user created levels. Fantasy Forest is up there for me too. And to think, I probably would have never found your level if you hadn't left a comment on my friend Patrick's Seal of Silvraen level!

Your levels have wonderful lighting and a brilliant artistic quality. I cannot wait to see what you come up with next, and again, welcome to the forums!

O_o maybe i should make it faster then lol. I know people can "cheat" if they play with more than 1 person too.
That level was so frustrating/exciting for me. I couldn't sleep for a few weeks. Sometimes everything would fall apart....I didn't use dark matter to hold things lol. I also keep adjusting things and adding/changing text to help people because I was getting complaints. I try not to think about it cause I felt like it was a good vision gone wrong somewhere...since not everyone can enjoy it (but maybe it's their fault they don't do it right =p).
I think my first rating on it was 1 star/"empty". I wanted to poop.
Anyway I'm glad you and your son enjoyed it =D

I'm so into lighting. I was all excited when i saw this game had lights to use. I just don't like lights to be seen unless it's part of the actual decorations. Too bad I just can make a series of boxes and just decorate them...life would be easy.
I play peoples levels and they might be really good and have nice theme but I'm always thinking "There should be a light there....and here....and..."

I've found that lighting is actually what brings a level to life. You can have a basic wall, then shine a light on it... and all of the sudden its immersive.

Interestingly, I built Splat II by turning off ALL the lights and then doing everything with LED's piece by piece.

I was actually struck by a similar effect in Fantasy Forest (which, in bucking the system a bit... is actually my favorite of your levels at this point). I love the creepy glow the lighting creates.

My favorite is when I accidentally go out of a camera zone in one of your levels, and I see the lights you use, Nattura. They're GIGANTIC. It only happens when I'm with 3 or 4 people, but it's so funny and awesome to see a light that is that big!2009-05-09 18:51:00

Omg nuu! hahaha I hate that! I don't want people to see the lights and I know people do when there's more than 1 player. I didn't like Mm's video of my level because it had 2 people and you could see stuff you shouldn't. I hate the camera! >;O
It's embarrassing...like if I bent over and my butt crack peeked out...it's like that.

Yeah the spotlights have to be huge to get the coverage I want. I wish there was a radius option on them to make a wider or thinner beam of light.

LED lights are much easier to work with. I just don't like the little dot the foggy lights make in front of the light...whats that about? -.-

I used that though in my Anubis level behind a picture or Tut (I think it was him...) to make his eyes glow when you get closer and they watch you move. No one has commented on it before and I was excited about it. Maybe because you fall close to it so people don't see it.

You know, someone who has some incredible light in his levels is Takelow. I think he's gone inactive from LBP, but if you check out his "The Bearer" series based on the Lord of the Rings, it's some of the best lighting I've seen. His use of materials is also pretty amazing.2009-05-09 19:19:00

I played your Lost tomb of anubis level a long time ago, and I still think it's the best silhouettelevel out there! It had really good visuals and lighting, and I like your eye for detail. It also has imaginative platforming and a unique art style.

But I'm still yet to play your other levels.

Hah hah hah! I know what you mean. I have a part in the crystal cave where no matter what I do, the camera won't listen to me and you can see the edge of the level. I've tried every single setting I possibly could think of, and my thermo is so full I can't add more material to cover the area or even corner edit it. Nice analogy with the "butt crack peeking out" though. I don't like people seeing my behind the scenes stuff. I just LOVE gigantic lights though.

You should see the size of some of the spotlights in my Chroma Stone levels xkappax they are huge and Nattura's right on - in order to get the color and coverage they need to be.

I did notice the Tut's eyes following me when I played it and thought it was a great effect! You've got some really fantastic effects all over that level though. The glaring sun behind the pyramid that just screams early sunrise light and heat and the spotlight at the end of the level that is just the right shade for a shaft of daylight piercing through the darkness of the tunnel. Just beautiful! Very cinematic and it brings an emotional component to your levels that I rarely experience even with other very talented creators.

yay it worked lol =)
It's so cool to hear comments like this because making levels reminds me of when I make art. I have a small vision and I go with it and just see what happens. I like to hear how people respond to it because, like with art, it usually can be interpreted in different ways and give off different emotions. As the creator I kind of get lost in the process of everything too. I might be proud of it but I don't necessarily get those feelings that players can. I just want to paint something pretty for the viewer and its cool to see good feedback in the end. LBP is more than a game!

lolol I think I saw someone use feathers in a dark level and it looked like leaves to me...so I tried it on the desert palms. It's cool when they move so it looks like it's windy hehe

I come from an artistic background so I look at most levels with an artistic point of view. That's another great thing about LBP it's appealing to creative visual types and logical minded engineer types too. It's sort of amazing the range of talent and different backgrounds a lot of creators bring to the LBP table.2009-05-10 01:37:00

So true. I'm an artist, my husband is an electrical engineer. Somehow that ended up being a really good combination in level making. Left brained and right brained come together in this game!

Are you serious? My mothers cousin is an Electrical engineer, I plan on being one, and Morgana25 just worked on a level together. Lol.

That is two LBPC Duos of Electisticgineer Proportions!! (joking)

Yep, and Morgana is also a graphic designer. Funny how that happens. Larry likes to be referred to as a "fungineer" when he's working on LBP, though.

Now, the real question is... if Nattura's visual style met the mechanics of someone who is an electrical engineer or some sort of engineer... would the world explode?

Add another fan to the list, 'Anubis' (we actually had a brief PSN exchange about this level i think) and 'Fantasy Forest' are among my faves. The only 'flaw' on FF is the initial lighting lag, you just couldn't resist that 'Just One More Bulb!!' syndrome.

Its an incredibly gorgeous level.

I think Fantasy Forest and Anubis are works of art. Which is what I believe Nattura was going for. That spider at the beginning of Fantasy Forest gave me chills the first time I saw it. Is it wrong that something in a video game should do that to me?2009-05-10 16:14:00

lol yeah I remember your psn.
It's also the glass to cover the ladybugs that makes it laggy. I didn't want glass but I didn't want people jumping back there. I wish there were invisible thin walls. Sometimes I want to make 3D decorations but not have people get onto them...

Actually, invisible walls are pretty easy. just take rubber or dark matter (depending on which is appropriate), draw a thin strand, and then shrink it down until it becomes invisible and set them close enough together so that it prevents the player jumping into the background. I do it all the time.2009-05-10 19:07:00

Yeah I figured that out when I was making the lost tomb. I had to block of a small part before you enter the place.
That's after I made the FF though, so I didn't know at the time and I don't think I can deconstruct it now lol.
They should just have an invisible option on dark matter since people do it anyway.

Now that's one I can agree with. Maybe an "invisible dark matter" material! So it shows up when in create mode but when playing its invisible. But that's one less thing we get to make fun of with other peoples levels - little chunks of dark matter everywhere. I already miss feeling superior to others when I saw visible pistons flying things around .

However, just from a personal preference I thought the lady bug behind the glass was a pretty cool effect. I thought "hey, that glass looks really good there". But the next thing I thought was "why did someone install a pane of glass in the middle of the forest?"

When I was showing off LBP to my sister to demonstrate why I was so excited about a 'level editor', Anubis was the level I showed her. She understood why I kept going on about the game from then on.

It has set design that I couldn`t achieve in my wildest dreams.

Haven`t tried the others yet but think I'll have to.

You can do more than you think, don't worry. Keep messing around and adding things. The cool thing is that LBP is also a community where you can share and learn from others or be inspired to try something new.

LOL I know! that was my issue...why is there glass in a tree? Just pretend it's some magical slimy wall of solid bug juice...or something

Lost Temple of Anubis is one of my favorite levels. It conveys alot of silent emotion and wonderous awe... like the deity that once resided there yearns to be worshiped again as it once was. I also really like Fantasy Forest. They're both gorgeous levels, and pretty fun to play.

Akemi Gardens is a good play, and has some nice looks and a neat escort concept... but you can tell it was your first one, because it's a little clunky and rougher around the edges than your other two levels.

You know what.... that's not a bad idea.... Just to totally polish it off, you should stick a bug juice sticker on the glass.... oozy stuff... that would look pretty incredible.
