Disgaea

I wish to bring to attention one of my favorite games: Disgaea. I don't think many people know what it is so I have included a URL.

You just had to bring up that game on this forum, didn't you. xD

Maybe I'll look into it now. Maybe not. You guys have fun with it though.

Disgaea is good. I really need to get the new one, but sadly, I'm poor. ;-;2009-05-07 21:38:00

i played it and beat it in the winter, then recently i wanted to get back into it (and get higher then level 300), but i heard about the trophy patch, so i've just been sitting around waiting for it to release.

at this rate, i'll be playing Cross Edge before i play Disgaea again (unless it sucks)

Have the PSP version. It's pretty good, gameplay is fun and the story while pretty silly is entertaining enough. Wasn't really enough to maintain my interest levels though. Also the item world is pretty cool, even if you don't use it much, having something in the game that can endlessly extend your playtime is excellent.2009-05-09 02:38:00

need a break from S-RPGs. I finished tactics 100% and that took months, so i couldn't bring myself to play another one for a while.2009-05-09 04:47:00

I loved playing it, but kept getting stuck (my characters are always weak and I had to go to the past levels to level them up) Laharl was like level 30 and I was all like "oh yeah, no one can stop me" I then checked an online guide (I'm sorry!) and found out the guy who wrote it was level 300.

I stopped playing there :O

I really like the psp version of this.
Great little one-liners, great gameplay, endless hours of things to do, just overall a really good game

I picked up the PSP version over a year ago and have been playing it on and off ever since (I have clocked in close to 100 hours). The game is incredibly deep, has infinite replay value and one of the funniest stories I have ever seen in gaming. Truly a must buy, I hope to find a used copy of the PS3 installment at some point.2009-05-12 20:23:00

I've got Disgaea 3 and it's quite the interesting game, as Rock said. It gets hard fast, though. I stuck on the stupid fight where you have to fight Champloo to get the dragon egg. Can't get passed it.2009-07-17 16:16:00

I have Disgaea on the PSP and and Disgaea 2 on the PS2. The PSP one I found kind of tough, and I just have not had the time to get into the PS2 version of the same game.

Still though, from what I saw it was great fun with a whole lot of depth. I think what I got stuck on was the item worlds. At level point would you start entering into them, and how far down would you go? It's been so long since I have played the games that I can't remember how you pull out of those worlds either.

Still though, if I can see Disgaea 3 or Disgaea DS (my PSP is broken at the moment) for a good price I think I will likely get them. At the moment though I am too busy and the prices have been too high for my liking. :S

If you do 30 levels a day for a whole year, playing every single day... you might be getting close to the level cap...

From what I remember of Disgaea, I was doing a few levels an hour, so to do 30 levels I'd probably need to be spending maybe 10 hours a day...

Something tells me this would be quite a serious committment to get there.

Still though, that would be quite an accomplishment, just a very, very time consuming one.

There's another thing that's kind of stopping me from playing Disagea at the moment

The US version has trophies, and you have to start from the beginning to gain them :/

I really like super hard trophies even if i never have a chance of getting them, and the trophies for Disgaea are just that!
They have things like deal 1 billion damage or 10 counters in 1 attack
I'd never bother doing stuff like that without trophies, for me it just adds more goals to the game.

If I remember right the level Eternal Teardrop with enemy level up grid is the best place to power level in Disgaea 3... it just gets old after awhile to keep replaying it. There was more places to exploit it in Disgaea 1 and 2... especially 1.2009-07-23 01:06:00

also 7-3 (im at 7-1) is a great place to power level. im tryin to level up Cthulu (my lady warrior) so i can use her Slayers Descent in chapter 7 im stuck. i need some more power houses besides Mao,Almaz,Champloo,Beryl(my weakest power house),and lawrence my male warrior. But it's a ps3 game :/

You can't port PS3 games over to PSP, it's nowhere near powerful enough

Well you could port the game and use the Disgaea: AoD or Disgaea 2 PSP engine. There's nothing in the game, other than graphical quality of the environments and perhaps the 2D characters during dialogue that could not be done on the PSP. Just recreate the environments and lower the resolution of the dialogue characters and you're set .

They'd basically have to remake most of the game from scratch but give it the same storyline

Better off just making an entirely new game

As far as i know, a port is a game that has been copied onto another console

Those games that you mentioned weren't copies, they were entirely different games

For example LBP PSP was never on PS3

Well yes that's correct... but that also means that it would be much easier to put Disgaea 3 on the PSP than put LBP, GT or Soul Calibur as the Disgaea engine is already made making it much easier to port the game.

If it was just as easy to create a new game then they would have done so instead of releasing Disgaea 1 & 2. The environments probably had to be made from scratch anyway in order to change the resolution to 16:9 on the PSP screen from 4:3 on the PS2 but I'm not sure about that. Anyway I think there is a much better chance of Disgaea 3 coming to the PSP than there is of a new Disgaea game being released on the PSP.

I'm still not so sure about it

Releasing it on the ps3 and then making a straight port to a handheld of the same generation just seems pointless

Maybe we'll see it on the next generation of handhelds, or maybe just in a few years if the PSP is still around

A bit off-topic but does anyone get the feeling that this might be the last generation of consoles?

It would be interesting to see Disgaea 3 going to the PSP. It really is lacking overall in terms of games choice in general.

It seems it's hard to track down a copy of Disgaea DS where I live. They did not make many for Australia and the production line has already been discontinued.

Please don't drift too far off topic. I think the discussion of console shelf lives has little to do with the topic of Disgaea. If you feel the need to discuss this area further, please create a new thread to discuss this rather than let this one be derailed and locked.
