Sacks O Treasure

Archive: 19 posts

Hi there,

I am new to the forum and new to posting in forums in general, so if this seems a bit of a short and dull post I apologise in advance.

I LOVE LBP and level creation. I have made a few levels but no one seems to really like them except for my friends.

One of my recent ones I would love to get some feedback on. It's called "Sacks O Treasure". The idea of this level is to collect as many coins as you can find. So many coins are needed to unlock things, such as a boat at the beginning of the stage, you need 3 coins for it to work. It has a sort of beach/island feel to it with other elements mixed in. if you find 26 of the 30 coins in the level, you will open up a secret under water cave.

The game features a working LCD "bank" for you to see how many coins you have collected. Trying to make all the trigers work and make a nice looking stage at the same time was very hard as the bar filled up quite a bit before I'd even started actually making the stage itself (darn triggers).

I would love if someone would play the stage for me and offer me some feedback. Sometimes the zero doesn't show on the LCD screen and I can't figure out why. Also this stage suits one player but it's fun with more. it just makes some of the bubbles count as two instead of one, I am unsure why.

I tried to upload pictures from my PS3 to photobucket but it didn't work. I'll see if I can figure out some other way to get some pictures on here.

Cheers,

Awesome. I loved this level. It's VERY tricky but worth it to stick with it. 5 stars and a heart.

I really like how you integrated the scoreboard and the coin collecting. The zero's displayed fine for me as far as I can remember. The theme was great and the map was unbelievably well designed. Top notch level IMO.

As for this level..the only thing I can say is that I can see kids and impatient people giving up if they get stuck. You've created so many great puzzles that if you miss one or two..you can't really progress. I wonder if changing some of the number requirements might make finishing it more accessible. Also, I was quite taken by surprise when I got to 20 coins and activated the end. I was really looking to find 26 so I could see the rest of the stage, but was caught off guard by the scoreboard. I will play this level again and show it to friends. Nice job.

I played through this level last night and I was really impressed. I found the coin collecting to be addictive and fun. The only thing I could say is to agree with Jaeyden's comment about impatient gamers giving up if they get stuck. Maybe reduce the number of coins need to activate the scoreboard as I got stuck on 19 for a while!2009-05-08 22:09:00

Ok, wow! This level is free-roaming genius. I love it!
Cannot describe how enticing and fun this level was whilst still showing us "this creator can do things".

Pros:
+The free romaing nature
+Great cratoony visuals
+Lovely different challenges
+I won't go on, but I love this level and could list pros forever

Cons:
-It seems like nobody from here is playing it

I rated your level 5 stars, tagged it brilliant and hearted it. Great level. I still couldn't get that all elusive 30th coin though

Oh wow, thank you so much. I really didn't expect such nice replies!

I'm taking in all you guys said, and realising I did a lot of stuff wrong with that level and that I could have done much much better. A few people have added me on PSN since posting on here and let me know just how hard the coins are to find. That it's sort of frustrating, but when I play online with them and show them where they are, they say they feel stupid for not having seen them, and that I should leave it as it is...so not sure on that.

Jaeyden, I made the end have to be activated by the use of a button, and with 20 coins, so that people who were sick of searching about could just end it if they wanted. There is an underwater part that's pretty fun where you find the last few coins, so people can choose to look for more or just end it if they get sick of it. Funny seeing your name on here as I remember messaging you about one of your levels a few days ago!

One coin people seem to have trouble finding is one I've actually got arrows pointing to, and a face with eyes looking at it, so not exactly sure how it's hard to find. But maybe I need to make it more obvious somehow? This coin is near the area where you need 10 coins to drop a cart. I sort of wanted them hard to find, but not frustratingly hard.

Thanks very much for the feedback, I really appreciate that.

Checked this out tonight and it's a fabulous idea for a level! I love hunting out secrets in levels like GrantosUK's From Siberia with Love series so a whole level of them is pretty awesome.

Loved the look you gave the level. Great character design in the pirate and the crabs. (LOVE the crabs) The LED Bank is genius too. I also appreciated that you put it in multiple spots so I didn't have to keep running back to a central location to check it. I only mananged 21 on my first run through but I'm going back to find the rest.

My only criticism would be when you pop up to grab the floating one on the right side - if you miss it with a bad jump from the button spring thing, you have to run all the way back down and try it again. Could you put some quick way back down once the player has been in that area? A small sponge drop in the back plane that could lower you back being emitted after you set off a player proximity sensor in the bottom area would solve that I think - if you want to. If not I can respect that too.

Overall a really fun level - I gave it 5 stars & hearted it. Thanks for sharing it!

This is such a great level... it looks, feels, and plays alot like an MM level, and the coin hunt system is so perfectly implemented and executed. I love all the variety and puzzle solving, and little mechanical touches for each segment. Everything has alot of detail, but is catchy and easy to see...

The gameplay made it feel like a mini-RPG that reminded me of an old PS1 game called Tomba. That's a good thing.

Me and Jaeyden picked up all 30 coins too.. and I can tell you put alot of personality into this level, and had alot of fun doing it.

I really liked this

5/5. I didn't get to finish, as my Dad wanted the TV, but what I saw was great!

All I'd say is maybe work on the visuals a bit. They were detailed, but I dunno, they just didn't have that WOW factor.

I'd suggest you play RangerZeros "Sacks in the City" if you haven't. It's also a free roaming level, but imo the visuals are a bit better than this.

Also, congratz on the spotlight, you deserve.

Played this a couple days ago. Very fun and addictive, i actually played the level 3 different times just so i could find all the coins- the one by the cart conveyor belt is very sneaky ;p Wonderful job on the banking system... i can only imagine the rats nest of switches you've got there, and i'm surprised you could fit in so many bank screens! only problem i had was i had to restart once BC i got a little trigger happy with the bomb cart by the dancing villagers... and my cart blew up But theres not really anything you could do to fix that. Some of the camera angles really hurt my eyes though... especially when my bro started spamming carts and bombs, the constant jerking back and forth was... *shudders*

congrats on the spotlight , but i'm sorry you lost your job D:

The Community Spotlight is a hand-picked selection of the best levels over the past two weeks, so congratulations on getting picked! We do a Spotlight every 2 weeks - we aim for Friday night (for me, Pacific Standard Time), but it has been posted on Saturdays on the rare days I cannot post it on Friday.

I want to leave my feedback on the level:

Loved it. I wanted to collect the coins so I could explore more of the level, so right there you've got a great hook for more levels like this. I only have one complaint: When I unlocked the bomb-shooting vehicle, I somehow managed to bomb the side and flip it over, essentially preventing me from moving forward at all with the level from that point. Is there any way you can allow those who have unlocked that vehicle to "respawn" it somehow? Other than that, I had a ton of fun (I think I got to 22 or so). I look forward to more like this.

Ah yes I will see if I can set up another trigger, so you can respawn the bomb cart. I am making another level which has a bank, but this one is more intelligent, the bank alone takes up half the thermo, so im gonna have to be clever with the rest of it.
I currently have a huge headace trying to get the bank to count down when you make a purchase choice> This level is the 3rd Western Sack, so its not going to just be about finding credits.
As for the cart Ill look into it thanks.
