A Bomb Dropping Type Survival Challenge
Archive: 2 posts
Yes, I have many projects on the go, but this is my main project. It all started with a fun day of getting blown to pieces with Xenifus on multiple bomb dropping survival challenges. I fell in love with the concept, but two things made me want to make my own; The height of the levels were pretty short, the levels quickly ended, and the visuals weren't the best. So I started to create a small part of the level, and it quickly expanded. I've made the level pretty tall, but not too tall, and have created a small warehouse as the beginning, and a fiery cave as the last stand. As I make the explosive ground, I knew I wanted some visuals down there, so I started to think of stuff I could place there as you got deeper, I thought of a Fallout shelter, (Which would get destroyed by the bombs.) a dinosaur skeleton, and some other small things. I also wanted some variety in the bombs, so I am starting to make different types; small ones with a small blast that are quick to explode but movable, big ones that have a big blast but take longer to explode and aren't movable. I may make some others in the future. There are some things I need help on though; The height of the level will easily change the explosive speed of things as they fall for a long time, so I need some way to make them explode after the same amount of seconds to the bombs that were dropped from above. I was thinking to make a new emitter than emits longer lasting bombs when you reach lower down. Your thoughts? I need a catchy name for the level, I don't want anything that has been used before, but it needs to fit the theme. (Which is a nuclear holocaust, Btw.) Finally I need a way for the camera to follow you down as you get lower. I was thinking about making multiple cameras, but that may get annoying to make, or have some device that follows you down. Any ideas? I may need some testers too, but not now as all you could test would be standing in a room. Thanks for any help, hopefully the finished product will be awesome and a fun way to slap your friends down into pits full of explosives and watch as they turn to ash! | 2009-05-05 02:12:00 Author: Kog Posts: 2358 |
Thats probably a good idea on the emitting. Set it up so you have a series of magnetic key switches stacked up. When you reach a lower level (via trigger radius) , dissolve the previous block, and the blocks above it will fall down, starting the next level of emitters. As for the camera, you could make a player tracking device. If you want an example, check out a level called "Day Night Example" by a player called Reinhart. Its basically two motion sensors controlling a directional switch, with the player in the middle. When the player triggers one sensor, the switch makes the piston holding the sensor move in that direction- so it follows the player around. You could put a camera on the switch, and it would follow the player up and down. As to the title... idk... No nukes is good nukes? Bomb voyage? I'm sure i can think of more puns later ;p I'm willing to test if you need it too... but thats later | 2009-05-05 03:19:00 Author: Burnvictim42 Posts: 3322 |
