Delay
Archive: 10 posts
Just wondering, is it possible to delay the effects of a switch? I'm planning on, in my current project, making Sackboy have to survive incoming attacks for around five minutes, and then having something to come rescue him or whatever. I was also wondering if I could cause speech bubbles to appear each minute saying things such as: 'Almost there, just hold on a little longer'. | 2009-05-04 21:46:00 Author: Bear Posts: 2079 |
If you have a piston with a magnetic key on it moving in a 5 minute line and then magnetic key switches at one minute intervals attached to the mouths you could pull it off. Is that too vague? | 2009-05-04 21:48:00 Author: Killian Posts: 2575 |
What Killian said. Attaching a key to a piston allows for complex timelines to be made easily by placing switches at varying intervals. | 2009-05-04 21:49:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |

No no, I'm sure that'll fulfill what I'm trying to achieve. I'll test it out ASAP. | 2009-05-04 21:50:00 Author: Bear Posts: 2079 |
Just remember that whatever time you set on the piston is the time it takes for the piston to go from A to B back to A again. So you`d need to double the time. With something as long as 5 minutes I`d maybe recommend having a small cart with a key on it moving slowly along a track will mag switches along the path. That way is also a little easier to test it out as you can pick up and move the cart to whatever point you want quickly to test it. | 2009-05-04 23:57:00 Author: Matt 82 Posts: 1096 |
What they said, it's exactly how I got a very similar effect going in my level "Cosmic Conundrum" | 2009-05-05 00:23:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |

Unless of course you set the piston (man i forgot what its called) so when it reaches the end it appears again where it started, that way it takes the time its set to. Flipper motion? Didn`t know it did that. | 2009-05-05 01:52:00 Author: Matt 82 Posts: 1096 |
Flipper motion? Didn`t know it did that. Yeah, that's the one! lol, i just keep forgetting the name . | 2009-05-05 22:00:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
Alternatively, if you only want slight delay (like 5 to 30 seconds) you can use a circle shape, rotor bolt it to a piece of dark matter, put a mag key on the outer circle and a mag switch on the dark matter. Slow the rota bolt speed down so that it takes X amount of time to complete a full circuit before the key connects with the switch. This is also a good device to use if you have a single mag switch set to direction but you want it to power a number of contraptions, some of which are compatible with the direction setting, and some of which aren't. Basically, you can use the device as a relay. Example: mag switch (direction) > rota bolt/mag key combo > mag switch (on off/ one shot). ^ does that even make sense? | 2009-05-07 18:34:00 Author: Ungreth Posts: 2130 |
