Your adventure continues! You must repair the ship and get the vital systems back online! I had this finished once before...but...I posted a poll in the 'Everything Else LBP" section (Thread title "What do you like?") and it's results gave me new direction. If you haven't voted please do so! (open until 5-23-09) I tried to ensure this had the top three vote getters so far. (level release date: 5-2-09) I tried hard to put in as much detail as possible. There are several platforming sections. There is a continuing story line that helps add some purpose to your mission. I have hid 6 switches throughout out the level. Each releases point bubbles near the end. Can you Find them All and get the High Score?! This is the third level I have made and the third in my series. I hope you enjoy it! Hopefully this isn't a bad double post, I don't want to edit the first one. I will definitely record tomorrow, can't right now. I've got to say, after playing your first level a while ago, then playing this, I have seen the amazing difference in your creating skills! Theres such a big difference, (Not saying the first was bad as it wasn't!) The detail in this was great, your use of the glowing textures and stickered (Cardboard?) was great, and worked perfectly together. When you spawn, the window in front of you looks sweet for some reason, then when you go into the control room I was blasted away at the greatness! It was pretty sweet when they got abducted, and looked much better than them being made of disappear and just turning into gas. The whole mission for the level really reminded me of Dead Space, being all alone having to fix stuff. The first thing were you have to inject the gel into the machine was cool and fun. It looked pretty as well! After that I loved the cross path part with the elevator, that shows you planned out your level. (Not like me ) Now I can't really remember the order of how things happens, but I knew that there were some good puzzles and platforming. I liked the part were you have to platform past the electric spheres that get pushed either left or right by the triangle. Advertising LBPC is always great! Then the ending was cool, and you made the scoreboard pretty, which is always better than a cardboard box. There were two flaws I noticed that happened at the same spot. When you cross the platforms and dodge the spheres that get tossed by the triangles, you reach a spot to the right. There you have to grab a small box from a hold, and put it on the elevator. Well, first time I grabbed it, the box broke. Maybe delete the roof of the container, just so that doesn't happen, and make people restart. After that if you put it on the elevator, the elevator goes down, well I let go of the box, and the elevator left without me. Took me a couple seconds to get the right jump that pushed me down. Aside from those the level was flawless and fun. I gave it 5 stars and a heart! For F4F, could you do my level; 'Bouncing Balls ~ Survival Challenge'? Thanks! The idea for the cross path part came from duel inspiration. Morgana25 in an early play through remarked she wished she could stop the turbo-lift and look around in the shuttlebay. (you didn't go back in there then) Also I love GrantosUK's levels as he is the master of cross-path! (I bow before thee!) So when I began to rework it I decided to bring it back around and use it. great level! i'll get around to playing the others in the series. the story is intriguing and the visuals set a space-station kinda scene really well! a bit that stood out for me was seeing some scenery while in the turbolift. the biogel part was cool, i like those kinda puzzles. the "dont let go" part is ok cos you make it pretty clear, but personally i dont like in any situation where any level tells you: e.g "dont do this or you'll break the level". you know? but i say again, you make it clear and its not hard to hang on to block for a couple of seconds. (i think i'm contradicting myself here cos there is a part in one of my levels where it is possible to break items, but i try and make it as break proof as possible anyways i gave it a 5star and heart cos it really appealed to me. | 2009-05-03 17:01:00 Author: MegaBlob Posts: 291 |

Well I was one of the testers and liked this from the start. I can see a lot of the issues you had have been sorted. I`ll do what I usually do and just type things as I see them. - The beaming up part is right good. If you have thermo you could add in a couple of plasma balls in there as well to have that Star Trek look. - The platforming element is well implemented. - I`m not getting why the doors flicker once they`re 'shut' It looks rather weird and can`t help but feel they`d look so much better with just one door emitted with an infinite life span, so the door is just closed rather than a flickering haze. - The puzzle with the blue lights was very good. Inventive. - 'Where the best level designers hang out'. Well shucks - Loved the gravity sleds. Overall, it`s a great level. Normally a Star Trek level is walking from character to character and seeing them spout lines from the show. This Took a universe and made something else from it. I had a play of the level this morning. The changes you made made a world of difference since the build I last played. Adding them simple couple of platform sections helped the progression, difficulty, varierty and flow of the level. I don't know how many times I died until I worked out the pattern of the obstacles, and thats whats brilliant in this level, careful thought, timing and consideration to whats ahead. But to me, the best thing, was seeing you grow and get a better a creator through space of the series. BORG number 1 was OK, two was good, three was excellent, and number four, well, I hope you can keep up the rapid progression in both visuals and gameplay you have proven you can do. Thanks guys for the kind words! @Matt82: I went and changed the doors now they are 'real' doors (I totally agree with you on them) @GrantosUK: I am very glad you liked it. I know I released it before you guys got a chance to test it out again but I just couldn't help myself... I like it alot 2 I have tweaked it all day Now the 1st puzzle room (Bio-Gel Injection) I decided to add a little pressure to it. While cool it was just a task with no challenge...so I have set it to only produce 10 kilograms of Bio-Gel material. (If Bio-Gel production is offline then you should have only so many ) Other than that little tweaks but nothing major (Yea!) Now on to Part 4! A lot of my thoughts have been stated already, but I'll rehash em anyhow. Like Cog already said, the first thing that struck me was the improvement in your level creating skills since parts 1 and 2. It looked fantastic. The "beaming" effect in the opening scene is great. The other thing that stands out for me are the puzzles. Complicated enough to make me think for a second, yet simple enough to figure out the mechanics w/o getting frustrated. This is good because, at least in my case, an unnecessary amount of frustration will wreck the experience. I really can't think of much in the way of criticism, but I do have a request... In part 4, it would sure be fun to blast a few Borg with the paintinator. I gave this one a heart, and four stars. I don't exactly remember the tag I gave it, I think it was "Tricky", cause some of the platforming was, well, tricky. This is a star ship and having all those colors wouldn't really make sense. The color plays into the component that helps run all the ships systems 'Bio-Gel'. It is a kind of biological circuitry. This was a very challenging level that had me on my toes the entire time. What I thought would be an enjoyably light platformer turned out to be a confusing, but ultimately satisfying affair. First of all I enjoyed the intro and the first puzzle. At first I had no idea what to do and having it only emit a certain amount is unfortunate as I had to keep restarting the level and wear thin the intro that was so cool the first time I saw it. However after that is a very cool and interesting set of challenging timed jumping puzzles. Some are fun to play and others seem a bit on the scary side of things for players that don't have a high skill level. I played through it with very little deaths then watched as my cousin tried and unlike myself he doesn't play a lot of little big planet and had a lot of trouble. Other then it not appealing to a large audience I'd say its a fun level for people who understand the physics and jumping mechanics of LBP. For those who don't and believe that the height and distance of your jump is random, it could be near impossible. -Could be too difficult for a large audience -Could do better to explain certain things -should possibly implement the new infinite lives checkpoint for players who aren't highly skilled +Visuals are great +Cool intro +a nice challenge +Cool opening puzzle +Nice futuristic atmosphere | 2009-05-06 04:32:00 Author: fusionboxer Posts: 37 |

Not to try and put words in your mouth but I wanted to post my take on the blue. If you look at the three levels as a group. The Green is used for the Borg - it's almost like the green VR is a character in the story - representing the bad guys. The blue is much more in line with the normal colors used in calmer scenes from Star Trek. Sorry you had trouble with the first puzzle...I added the limited amount of Bio-Gel for two reasons: 1. Bio-Gel Production is offline in the story. 2. It was just a task with no challenge. But...I also don't want to frustrate people right off the bat. So I will increase the amount produced by 10 for a total of 20. That way you should be able to figure it out before you run out but will feel pressured to get it done quickly. I was thinking of doing an easy version...or at least a medium version. (for those who have trouble but really want to play it.) I wish you would tell me what 'things' you think aren't being explained enough. Then I could address the issue. Please keep in mind that somethings are better if you figure them out yourself. (I just wanted it to be true to the storyline but that factor will be overlooked by most so I will change it back to unlimited) EDIT: **BUT I will continue to say there is a limited amount, so people feel rushed! While I agree on one hand that it wont make the challenge easier...I also think things should have a limit. Any good platformer has a limit...to an extent. Yes some just make you restart the current section while other make you restart the game. I myself don't like the kind that make you restart the game...but we are not talking about a 20+ hour adventure here...this is at max 20min (I would think) I would rather make a Hard & Easy version or add another double checkpoint then put in unlimited checkpoints. @Morgana25: Dont worry you didnt put words in my mouth. I agree with your comments...and the red could have been worked into the Bio-Gel Production section but other than that I just dont think it fits...But this is My dang StarShip so I will make it look the way I want! Oh when I said confusing I was simply talking about the first puzzle. The fact that is stopped emitting something made me think I did something wrong to break the level. I sat there for a bit wondering what exactly to do, but ultimately discovered that I had to simply press start and hit restart. It's not a bad thing, but now that you've made the bio gels infinite I can honestly say there isn't a lot of problems left with the level. The challenge is there, but like I said this level isn't for large audiences. It's for those of us that enjoy challenging platforming. If I wasn't aware of the LBP physics like so many others I probably couldn't finish this. You won't believe how many people still don't know how to jump properly in LBP. Either they don't know how to pull off a light jump or think they can keep mashing on x and think it'll help them jump higher. Anyway other then that it's a good level and looks really nice. I enjoyed it because I like challenging levels to an extent (they wake me up), but just be aware many others might not simply because of the difficulty. Oh and in relation to that I recommend against making an (easy) version. It just makes the audience feel bad that they can't beat one version and in most cases won't feel satisfied if they beat the other. I saw this on cool levels, and WAS BLOWN AWAY!! Brilliant visual style. I loved the corridoors looking realistic, but I disliked the use of VR for some rooms, imo, VR only works in small quantities as trimmings/borders etc. The Bio-gel room confused me, maybe cause I haven't played your others, but I didn't think it was clear what to do (past it though). Using buttons in the back layer on the wall is a pain, cause LBP wants to make you change planes. Either use a grab switch, or put them on the ground. I quite liked the platforming, where you jump over the moving electricity that is shooting plasma. The VR material here is hard on the eyes however. The Main Shuttle Bay!! Finally, that is what I'm talking about, LESS VR. That ship is awesome! Level a bit short. No less, 5 stars and hearted. If you were to play My (me and Morgana25) latest level, "Sonnet of the Gargoyle" I would appreciate it. just played it, some feedback... + love the clean visual style + beam-me-up part is really wel done! :-) + nice platform elements + some really cool innovative puzzles i've never seen before, I especially like the one with the blue light! + sliding doors and the lift is cool (although i would have prefer an automatic lift) when you got up with the lift you get the impression the level is really big when you're passing those floors. - the level confused me a few times, took me a while to figure out what exactly i had to do at the first puzzle, but it was rewarding once i found out. The most confusing part was the one with the blue light, all the lights were blue and nothing happened.... done it again and nothing happened. Had to look at the video to see what i had to do. Well, i did give it another shot, a guess what, same thing, all lights were blue and i couldn't move on! Had to come back here to look at the video again (just to see i did tesame as in the video). So i moved the blue lights a little and then it worked! Seems like it's possible to turn all the lights blue and still get stuck :-( Maybe that puzzle needs some more tweaking because it pretty frustrating when you solved a puzzle and still can't move on :-( (You just have to turn all the lights blue in that puzzle, right? or am i overlooking something?) misty. | 2009-05-09 14:01:00 Author: Mother-Misty Posts: 574 |
Ok I increased the radius of the mag switches that are controlling the pistons that 'unlock' the way ahead. Hey AJnKnox, I played your level together with Fjonan over the weekend and I thought it was great. Mind, this is the first in the series that I actually played so I can't judge it storywise. I plan on playing the other ones later tonight. + It really had that Star Trek-vibe + Beaming up was cool & quite funny in a way, so unexpected + Challenging but fun + Some original platforming action + Secret buttons, Fjonan nearly killed me for missing one - Most of my cons were lag related (I think...) so obviously not worth mentioning I would have given it 5 stars and a heart but I wasn't gamehost. Time for my review :kz: Starting with a review of the third level instead the other two might be a bad choice psychologicaly but what the hell. You caught the slick, clean visual style of Star Trek pretty well in the starting area - it get's lost on the way but this is LBP after all, no problem. I loved the beaming up in the briefing room, made me laugh - but ... if they get beemed away with GREEN light that would mean the Bor got them . Another thing that happend to Zwollie and me while playing your level ... when you shut the door to the briefing room after you ran out it does not open again, but ... it does so even if another player is still in there. Just a tiny problem but just wanted to mention. After that you start right away. We had som lag in the chip-reprogramming area which made it hard to jump precisely. I do not really know why, it has to be because of too many ... things in that area although it does not look cluttered. I liked the puzzle, it was nice, needes some thought and had some prizes. Perfect puzzle that way. Here I found the secret button right away. I LOVE secrets. You have done a great job with those - if only my companion would not have MISSED one, but he got his slap and flew right into the horrible gas. He desserved it. The elevator ride was fun, taking a look over the level, great idea. Then your contraptions where not so Star Trek anymore, but as I said, this is not a problem, this is LBP. I liked them, I especially liked the challenging - not frustration - difficutly even though it had us start the level like four times. The one thing with the wobbeling triangle directing the falling electic pieces was genius, what a great divice to get some randomness and looked awsome. My problem with the key I think you fixed already, so there is really no complain here. The following section was really hard and nice with the up and down going electric things. Loved it! But you need to add another checkpoint behind it on the rail above. Zwol was still alive but we where on our last life and almost died of fear and no **** checkpoint came along. Think of our hearts, will you? Well and then it was all over, way too soon, I could have taken a bit more but yeah ... you should always stop when it's best. After all this level is the best in the Borg series with a lot of good ideas, enough Star Trek to deserve the name and nothing really to complain about. The rest ist nit-picking. As for the first puzzle room: 'Bio-Gel Injection' which you had lag in...In the video that Cog made for me it shows him and another player going through the level and it didn't 'seem' like they had any lag so maybe it was your connection. As for things turning 'not so Star Trek like'....This is a new Ship design in an undetermined time line...so yes I took a little creative license! If I understand you right...You think I need another double checkpoint 'before' the 'Plasma Injectors' that move up and down....right? Or do you mean right after them before you get to the shuttlebay? Just let me know and I'll add one where you think appropriate. I would have loved to have kept going but the thermo wasn't having it! You know you cant put in that much detail and have a long level...but...it is longer than part 2 so I am getting better balancing game elements and detail. About Part 4: No it's not a BORG cube...it's a BORG Scout Ship...and no you don't blow it up But you do damage it to make it drop it's shields. This level looked great. It really felt like Star Trek. I loved the beginning when the crew was teleported away. It was unsuspected and really got me interested in the rest of your level. The first puzzle, however, was a little confusing because I didn't know right away what I was moving or where I was supposed to drop the balls of gel, or whatever they were. It wouldn't have been a problem if I wasn't rushed or limited to the number of balls. If this is a problem for more people than more specific directions would fix this problem. My Description- Your level looks pretty neat an your characters were cute, this series reminds me of Star Trek hahah Pros of the level- I think your puzzles are a nice touch, some were new to me and some were similar but done in a different manner. The first puzzle for example was a simple puzzle but youve gone through much effort to make it look like i was really injecting those Bio Gels by the use of advanced machinery. Adding the secrets was a nice addition tho i only found 3 of them The 2nd Puzzle i played through was pretty cool to me, (it was the red light blue light puzzle) The Platforming was well done and it felt right to your level, although some were varied in difficulty. I thought the first obstacle was challenging and then the 2nd part was easier. then the third and fourth were just right. It grew from easy moderate to moderate. Cons of the level- The Only downside i can think of is that its a little short, but it didnt affect my overall rating. Overall Rating- 4 stars, machinery and hearted. Suggestions: -The Checkpoint for the Gravity platforms isnt placed very well in its spot. i died from one of the gravity platforms while jumping down to the checkpoint and it caused me to go way back to the last checkpoint. I suggest placing that checkpoint above the Gravity Platforms Obstacle. - The Switches for the Red Light Blue Light Puzzle have a slow reaction time, i was confused at first because nothing was moving for a good 3 seconds. I agree that after you have worked hard to get past the Injectors you shouldn't die before you get a chance to face the next challenge. *Checkpoint Moved* The 2nd puzzle: The pistons don't have any pause time, but they were set for 6 sec. I didn't want them to be too hard to stop at the right spot. I was captivated by this play as soon as the crew was beamed away-nice touch and done well with the camera angle. Your Bio-Gel machine was sheer ingenuity. Although frustrating at times, overall this was a very good Level and challenging play. Rated 4-Star, Hearted Level and you as a Creator. I'm looking forward to playing your other Levels, especially the one your currently developing--let me know when it's published. I only had 1 issue with the Level, but since you described it as a Difficult Level, I am willing to accept the fact that I am not as good a gamer as I think I am (lol). I'm referring to the Plasma Injectors, the series of 4 moving electrified columns. It would have been so much less painful if there was a checkpoint between the 2 sets of columns--to the left of the "LBPCentral" sign would have ben perfect. I would have felt like I was being rewarded for making it past the 1st two, but like I said, this was supposed to be a Difficult challenge, so this comment is probably more useful in addressing issues the younger kids might have playing this level. You did a great job! I recommend everyone play this Level. And to all the LBP Creators, we are a rare breed indeed. Don't sell yourself short by comparing your first to my first. First of all, I'm a perfectionist (can be bad and good at times). My Majors in College were (in this order) Architecture, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science. I finally decided on Electrical Engineering and Computer Science as a career, but in all honesty, Architecture is really my passion. Not sure, but I think it shows through in my Level. I watched my wife create 2 levels, and I intentionally kept putting off creating a level, because I knew I would become addicted (lol--it looks like the bug bit most of us here). Anyway, I wanted to design something that I was happy with, so I spent over 100 hours developing, fixing, and tweaking this level (and yet there is more to do based on the feedback I am getting). This meant several hours of foregoing sleep to make this a reality. My problem is I don't have enough time to develop the way I really want to, which means there will be a considerbale amount of time between each new Level being published. Thanks again for your comment, as I do value your opinion as a fellow "space level pioneer", and I'm really looking forward to hearing what you have to say about my first level.
