New Spotlight Following System [Like introduction level!] +VIDEO

Archive: 9 posts

Hi everyone,

I was messing around in LBP and disovered a way to get a spotlight to follow you - just like in the first introduction level. It isn't PERFECT, (there are still a few following issues such as slight back 'n forth joggyness and the light doesn't cover your whole body on the way back,) but those are only minor issues and hardly noticeable.

NOTE: This is NOT done via a creature brain technique! It is an entirely new method..

"Remember the spotlight in the introduction level of LBP, where Stephen Fry says, "You're a little sackperson!" And there is a spotlight that follows you? Well here it is! I've managed to re-make the spotlight and embed it into a level. There are some minor glitches, where the system may forget where you are, but it is quite rare for that to happen. THIS WORKS WITH 1 PLAYER ONLY! I'm working on a multiplayer system."

I'm not aware of this being done before, so go ahead and check it out & let me know what you think:

Level name: Light Following System
PSN ID: DaDCDJ

I'm not sure if that level name is entirely correct, so go ahead and search for 'DaDCDJ' and find it via my planet. I published it about a half hour ago.

Thanks!

Nice, I tried to do a spotlight myself but failed. Heroically. I'll check this out today 2009-05-03 13:46:00

Just a guess..

sensor switches control a directional switch on the wobble bolt the lights attached to? Or atleast that was how I was going to do it when I tried, but I'm quite lazy..

looks good, i need to check it out.

As madafaku said Wobble bolt with directional switch OR two motors set to speed on top of each other will produce the required effect, but it moves faster as you get further out of sync (mine spins round really fast if you get behind it). I made some paintball turrets on my moon which use both methods.

I assume you are using the wobble bolt method with angle sensors?

Nice contraption

Does this have anything to do with the PM you sent me?

Yeah, it does. I managed to hide the device though, and the light goes out of sync with sackboy sometimes (you'll know why) but your idea was really great. Thanks for the help btw! =)2009-05-05 19:07:00

I have my own idea for making one that is absolutely flawless (well, at least 1P)...but I'll save that for another time 2009-05-05 19:11:00

I'm curious what you mean by out of sync?

Then only problem I experienced with this type of system is a speed vs granularity pay off: You can either move fast or have it accurate, if you try to get both then it tends to become unstable and shake a bit once it has found it's target (due to 0.1s sensing times)
