Br?tal Legend

I searched for a thread on this game but couldn't find one. Somebody must be interested in this game, right??? http://www.gamersnet.nl/images/nieuws/2008/1229193834/brutal_legend_logo.jpg Br?tal Legend tells the tale of Eddie Riggs, played by Jack Black. The ultimate roadie, Eddie is the first person anyone calls when they need guitars tuned or stages rigged, and has a love for hot rods and a photographic memory for every Heavy Metal album cover, and the lyrics those albums contained. One night, a stage accident knocks Eddie unconscious, and he awakens in a world that looks very strange yet oddly familiar, a world where every Heavy Metal album cover and lyric Eddie knows has come to life, and where the evil emperor Doviculus and his demon army, The Tainted Coil, have enslaved the last remaining humans. When an oppressed people request Eddie’s knowledge of modern warfare, he pulls from his own experience in the only occupation he’s ever had, a roadie for a Heavy Metal band, and under his command, this barbaric force of hot-rods, Marshall stacks, leather, and chrome will bring this ancient world into the age of Metal. Yeah, I'm peaked by it. Double Fine is a fun company. | 2009-05-01 15:02:00 Author: Morrinn3 Posts: 493 |
Well, I have yet to find a game from the mind of Tim Shafer that isn't awesome in every way. | 2009-05-01 15:11:00 Author: Zwollie Posts: 2173 |

I agree with Leather-Monkeys, this game will totally pwn! I was thinking a while ago "Whatever happened to Double Fine after Psychonauts?"and then I found out they were making this! Made my day when I found that out, that's for sure. | 2009-08-20 15:04:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |

That 20 minute gameplay video was quite enlightening. I have a tonne of games pre-ordered and looking forward to, but I may have to consider adding this one to my list. | 2009-08-23 07:40:00 Author: Elbee23 Posts: 1280 |
I'm definitely looking forward to this one a great deal. One of my top games this year. I've even had dreams about it! I played through Psychonauts again last month just because I was so hyped up for this game. What a fantastic game that was. I had nearly forgotten all about the Little Waterloo level. Total treat to play through it again. | 2009-08-23 09:17:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
It feels as though I have been following this game for years (which may be because I have ) and while the musical genre is not much to my tastes, I can not help but admire Double Fine's ambition. They are a team of extremely talented individuals and I can only hope that Brutal Legend shall bring them the financial success that Psychonauts had trouble generating. I shall patiently await the arrival of Rocktober. | 2009-08-23 15:52:00 Author: deadmensboots Posts: 54 |

Has anyone checked out the demo yet? I just finished it and I thought it was great! The gameplay was fun, varied, and the dialogue was hilarious. I might have to pick this one up! | 2009-09-24 23:51:00 Author: mrsupercomputer Posts: 1335 |
There's a demo? On Xbox Live? On the PC? It's certainly not on the PSN! I must have. | 2009-09-25 00:07:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
Yep! It's up on Xbox Live and it's awesome! | 2009-09-25 00:50:00 Author: mrsupercomputer Posts: 1335 |
Curses! I don't have XBox Live. TON of demos on the PSN today, but I'd trade them all for a little Brutal Legend. | 2009-09-25 02:41:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
I'm going to have to check the demo out tomorrow. I've been looking forward to this since it was on the cover of GameInformer, though I doubt I'll buy it. It seems more like a rent to me, but a good rent. | 2009-09-25 04:00:00 Author: BassDeluxe Posts: 984 |

PSN free maybe next week. Is there someone that is interested in this game and not in metal music? I'm not interested in the current Metal in any way but the 70s, 80s Metal Brutal Legend is promoting is right up my alley. | 2009-09-25 08:44:00 Author: Zwollie Posts: 2173 |

Hmm... This game comes out on the same day as Uncharted 2. I like it, but I like Uncharted 2 better and can only afford one. :/ That's quite a dilemma! If I were in your position, I would choose Uncharted 2 as well. Anyway, I played part of the demo (I had to quit before I finished it). I love how it gives you the option to turn off foul language and gore right before it happens. I chose to bleep the foul language because it's funnier, but I kept the gore. Also, I'm not much for metal music either, but I still enjoy the game quite a bit! | 2009-09-26 00:23:00 Author: StrayFelisCatus Posts: 178 |

Oh my God, I nearly cried when this demo ended. Just before it ended, after beating that boss, I was saying "oh god don't end don't end don't end..." "YOU'VE PLAYED THE DEMO...." Noooooooo!!!! Did anyone notice the Pyschonauts references? This was only the first few minutes of the game, but already the humor and the world have completely, COMPLETELY sucked me in. That opening cinematic, where the "metal" band's dj starts scratching the records - I was rolling. Seriously, game developers (especially the folks at Rockstar who make GTA) need to take LESSONS from Tim Schafer. This guy's the best comedian in the industry. The game also, like Psychonauts, is such a clever, engaging, and original premise. You want to play more just to see more of this world they've created. I just loved every minute of it. | 2009-10-02 21:33:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |

The lead singer, when he climbed up on the rafters, did Raz's victory dance! I also noticed Richard Horvitz's voice in there making a return. He did the voice of Raz in Psychonauts (as well as Invader Zim, for the Zim fans out there). Here's a clip of the man himself doing a version of it live onstage. I guess here it's half Raz, half Zim. OK to be honest I thought I wouldn't care much about this game. Until I tried the demo.... Pure. Awesome. How did I ever doubt Tim Schafer? As soon as Black Sabbath came up when you first get control of the character I knew I was sold on this game, and it only got exponentially more awesome after that. Must. Buy. This. Game. | 2009-10-03 16:46:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |

I agree. Did anyone else have trouble knocking down the engines to drop the gate? I completely forgot about the earthshaker move or whatever it's called (X+Square) and so I was running around for a good five minutes with the chick yelling "DROP THE GATE!" at me. | 2009-10-07 00:47:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |
The first time through I kind of didn't realize I had to do that / couldn't see the engines and just ran around until I decided to do the earthshaker just because I think it's an awesome move and wham. lol | 2009-10-07 12:45:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |

Walking down on the robotspider thing while mumbling about death heavy-metal worlds and stuff made me laugh. I loved the demo. Controls felt great. I might borrow or buy later. | 2009-10-09 10:50:00 Author: BasketSnake Posts: 2391 |
I played this last night, and my response was a resounding "meh". It's a great concept, but the control system is a little stupid (x is jump, x is always jump. Why would you change that? Also, why can't I jump??). Add to that it's mostly combat-based and the combat system seems to lack any kind of scope whatsoever, beyond mindless button bashing and a couple of big moves. Oh and add to that, Jack Black still isn't as half funny as he believes himself to be. All in all it's a decent game, not awful, but certainly not worth an investment in my money or time. The combat system is the failing point for me. 10 years ago it would have been passable, but not today. | 2009-10-09 11:06:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
Jack Black still isn't as half funny as he believes himself to be. He knows that. And that's what makes him funny! But I really agree with you. The gameplay is not that great(from what we can tell in the demo). I like Jack Black, but I didn't always used to. I actually used to hate him...as an actor. But after Kung Fu Panda, I really saw him as funny. So I can understand if you don't like him. | 2009-10-09 20:19:00 Author: Drabaz Posts: 67 |

Hack and slash is a little stale lately for sure. What grips me most is the heavy metal theme, though. I'll pick this up a few months after release when people start selling it really cheap. | 2009-10-09 20:25:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |

I'll pick this up a few months after release when people start selling it really cheap. That's the thing for me too, it's the concept of the game. The gameplay, from what I've seen so far, is as traditional as they come. From what I understand it opens up into an open-world type game after this. You drive your demon hot-rod around looking for missions to progress the story and sidequests. You can grow an army of head-banging revolutionaries. Tim Schafer does funny like nobody else in the business, and his games are also some of the most clever. I'll be picking this one up for the story, the humor, the heavy-metal-hell universe. I love that the menu is an old heavy metal vinyl record cover. A pair of hands "present" it with a showman's flair. Schafer's described the game as being about "heavy metal album covers", which I think is just ridiculously genius. | 2009-10-09 21:54:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
Looks like the street date has been broken! Apparently some people have it early! I've been asking some questions about the game, and i'm getting more and more interested in this. I'll probably post the answers they gave me here soon. | 2009-10-10 06:03:00 Author: JKthree Posts: 1125 |

This is actually why I shrugged the game off all this time until I tried the demo. Hack and slash is a little stale lately for sure. What grips me most is the heavy metal theme, though. I'll pick this up a few months after release when people start selling it really cheap. Well hack and slash can be really inventive and engaging on a gameplay level. I won't deny that I absolutely love the theme and graphics of the game and it looks like the plot will be pretty good (probably revelling, tongue in cheek, in it's cliches). This style of game - story-driven, 3d person action / adventure - are possibly my favourite genre of games, so I guess it's the fact that it (probably) has so much wasted potential that upsets me. But note the probably, I don't want to judge too soon, maybe there is more depth to the combat as you go through, anything so that you have to think a little bit rather than purely mashing the buttons with your palm and watch inadvertant win occur | 2009-10-10 11:45:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
anything so that you have to think a little bit rather than purely mashing the buttons with your palm and watch inadvertant win occur Sir, it sounds like Demon's Souls (http://www.gametrailers.com/video/review-demons-souls/57297) may be right up your alley. | 2009-10-10 12:26:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
Hmmm, It does look rather wonderful. I may have to work out if I can get that NA version working in PALLand... Don't worry about giving me the answers, I don't wanna be derailing this thread too much So, Brutal Legend, eh? Wikipedia has a full listing of the soundtrack (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brutal_Legend#Soundtrack) - now that does look really good. I lol'd when I saw Dethklok on there, brilliant | 2009-10-10 13:40:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |

It seems you will get new moves, vehicles, weapons, and servants, as you progress through the game... I think it has potential. | 2009-10-10 14:40:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |
But the "new" moves don't really add any more dynamics to the fight. Sure (x-square-x) propels the enemy slightly further away than (x-x-x-x), but that's hardly a massive difference. Also note that move is available as soon as you get the guitar, it's not actually unlocked. I saw nothing to hint at it being more than just a pure button basher, where you can throw in the occasional "big" move, like the earthshaker. Oh, and I wasn't very impressed by the vehicle section either, or the little "play a solo" minigame lol. But, as I said, there isn't enough info in the demo to tell, so I'll stop being a negative nancy all over this thread | 2009-10-10 15:26:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |

Also, why can't I jump??).Ever played any Legend of Zelda game? Can't jump in those either (besides a few top-down ones with Roc's Feather) but those are still amazing. Anyway, on topic, this game will be amazing and if I had the money, I'd buy it day 1. As it is, it's an insta-rent for me. (sad face) Tim Schafer is a genius when it comes to... just about anything. I'm sure only some of you played Psychonauts, but that was one of my all-time favorite games. Uber-unappreciated, but still amazing. Brutal Legend looks to be just as good, if not better, due to the addition of all the heavy metal. Also, DECAPITATIOOOOOOON!!!! | 2009-10-10 15:26:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |

But, as I said, there isn't enough info in the demo to tell, so I'll stop being a negative nancy all over this thread Nothing to show it... yet! Just a few more days until we find out for sure :O | 2009-10-10 15:45:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |
Surprised that theres no reviews out yet, must have a late embargo. | 2009-10-10 21:38:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
I think that people shouldn't buy it because it's a slasher. There' Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 that is quite orgasmic gameplay wise, then there's Bayonetta (demo downloaded via Japanese PSN account ) that is really nuts, fun and over the top. Those are slashers. People should buy it because there's Tim Schaffer's hand behind it, because it has a wonderful soundtrack and because it will mix a lot of things together. If you think about it as a slasher, the game epically fails. | 2009-10-11 14:24:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |

Just think, if Psychonauts had been a bit more successful commercially (sure, everyone loves that game, but only if they've played it, and tons of people haven't) we might've had this game years sooner. Or maybe not. *shrugs* | 2009-10-11 14:31:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |

What he's saying is that you shouldn't buy it to be a hack'n'slash. You should buy it because it's a Tim Shafer game and if you're going to buy it because it's a hack'n'slash, you'd be better of with Ninja Gaiden or Bayonetta. | 2009-10-11 15:15:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |
rtm knows what I mean , he's just joking If you haven't a Japanese account... YouTube - Tutorial: Making a Japanese PSN account using your PS3 Try Bayonetta since it's sick... | 2009-10-11 16:07:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
Borrrrring. Brugal Legbone will own this game. I've been following this game for a while but Rooster Teeth got my attention to it again. I <3 them. Can't wait for this game, I hope some Tenacious D music is in there like Tribute. YouTube - Brutal Legend Brutal Thought #2 Human Video Game | 2009-10-11 16:12:00 Author: Snappyguy Posts: 710 |
Well, guys it's out. Does anyone else have it? I only rented it, but still I've got it. I'm not very far in, but it's amazing so far. | 2009-10-13 22:54:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |
I picked it up today, but I've only played a little bit (Uncharted 2 has taken up most of my time). The little I have played was good though. The gameplay isn't perfect, but it's fun and I love the dialogue. I've already laughed out loud quite a few times. | 2009-10-14 03:29:00 Author: mrsupercomputer Posts: 1335 |
I'm going to pick it up tomorrow, unfortunately I won't have too much time to play it due to work. | 2009-10-14 03:42:00 Author: FULLGORR Posts: 245 |
Hmm... This game doesn't really intrigue me at all. Let me know how it is mrSC. | 2009-10-14 03:53:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
I played it for about an hour today and I think it's absolutely brilliant. The art direction and overall style and feel is amazing and unique, it's incredibly fun too. I probably won't be playing it for a while though due to Uncharted 2. | 2009-10-14 18:00:00 Author: FULLGORR Posts: 245 |
I enjoyed it, still got awhile before i get 100%. Mainly the online stuff, I hope the fights aren't as long and hard as the ending of story on brutal difficulty | 2009-10-14 19:05:00 Author: JKthree Posts: 1125 |
I have to ask: What's so great about Uncharted 2? Did you guys play the first game? It wasn't very good... Has the sequel improved that much? Anyway, yeah, BL still rocks. Started forming a headbanger army, but then Hall of the Mountain King came on in the Druid Plow and I didn't want to stop listening to it, so I just wasted time driving around. | 2009-10-14 21:11:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |

Thats the great thing about opinions, I loved the first uncharted and the little bit of the beta for 2 I got to play. Havn't tried Brutal Legend yet, don't know if I can be bothered to download the demo a second time. | 2009-10-14 22:28:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
Both Uncharted 2 and Brutal Legend seem to be story > gameplay a little bit I'm not saying the gameplay in Uncharted was bad but it wasn't exactly groundbreaking, it was the really immersive story that made it such an awesome game! Based on that is it possible that the story - the one thing that developers have been neglecting so much, can make a game? | 2009-10-14 23:49:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |

Having played through Uncharted 1 on Monday start to finish and now playing through Uncharted 2, I can tell you that it is A LOT better than the first. The game feels very similar coming into it, but everything is just super polished, it's very apparent how much Naughty Dog learned in the first. Two seems to take everything from the first and cranks it up to eleven. I would definitely recommend picking up Among Thieves, I had zero hype for it, but I figured I'd get it anyways and I am not disappointed! | 2009-10-15 05:04:00 Author: FULLGORR Posts: 245 |
Okay, good. Because I tried playing the first, and I had a hard time with it. The shooting controls seemed sloppy to me, not to mention the uber difficulty setting, even though I was on normal... Anyway, back on topic: Gotta love the name of the riff to summon the car. "Drop a Deuce." Awesome. | 2009-10-15 15:35:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |

I just tried the demo, and it was pretty awesome. Really funny and good gameplay. | 2009-10-16 21:14:00 Author: Arkei Posts: 1432 |
The game is great, I love using face melter =P. But the multiplayer is confusing . | 2009-10-17 08:19:00 Author: Snappyguy Posts: 710 |
Argh, suddenly it got frustrating. Escort missions=Fail. Especially when you have to escort a tour bus and it keeps exploding... | 2009-10-17 14:38:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |
The only thing i don't like is online. No one is on. (probably from Uncharted2) And Disconectng even BEFORE the match starts counts as a loss. I was trying out Tainted Coil (and to get the T.C Double Team trophy) when i checked to find a match, and it found one, and there was a timer before it started, i noticed i was still Tainted Coil so i tried to change, but i couldn't, i knew i was going to get my butt whooped as them, so i just shut my PS3 off. I'd rather D/C than lose a match anyway, sorry but i'm a REALLY bad sore loser especially when there's a win/loss record. LBP's like one of the only games i don't get mad at for losing | 2009-10-17 18:59:00 Author: JKthree Posts: 1125 |
Finally Got it, not much chance to play besides what was also in the demo but I do have one thing to say: BEST GAME-MENU EVER!! | 2009-10-21 09:24:00 Author: Zwollie Posts: 2173 |
I agree. Best menu ever! And Best Story ever! And best Idea evurr. I wish this got more attention. The media doesn't appreciate games enough unless it's something "Evil". Well, Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon had Schafer and Black as guests, When I got "Coolest Thing Ever" I just smashed into his butt and got the bleep bloop. | 2009-10-21 12:41:00 Author: Snappyguy Posts: 710 |
Didn't finished it yet, but the section where Through The Fire And Flames kicks off is one of the most Epic in gaming history. Also...being a nostalgic, when Youth Gone Wild and rost kicked in I s**t my pants. After the French Kiss go to Lemmy and spoke to him to have one of the best LOL moments of the game. | 2009-10-21 22:43:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
I finished it today in one big playthrough, just getting some achievements and upgrades. About the ending? I was a bit annoyed this was a cliffhanger ending with the tear in her eye. But another game is always good. | 2009-10-22 14:30:00 Author: Snappyguy Posts: 710 |
I played the demo of this and it seemed cool. I love the music and humor I might pick this up someday, but honestly, Uncharted 2 and Ratchet & Clank were the only two games that were a definite buy for me by the end of this year. | 2009-10-22 20:13:00 Author: Powershifter Posts: 668 |
I got this game Saturday, completed the main story Saturday. This game is epic, it's great having a game based around some of your favourite songs. The part where Perry Mason came on made my jaw drop - It was amazing! I'm up to 97% full completion, has anyone actually got 100% yet? | 2009-11-03 20:09:00 Author: Leather-Monkey Posts: 2266 |
