Spawn Camping?

Archive: 8 posts

I started the other thread on glitches now I think it would be interesting also to hear your thoughts on Spawn Camping. Is spawn camping cheating or just a smart advantage over the other team? And what if any are ways to prevent this. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 created a system where you are spawned at different areas of the map but my thought is that I would prefer to spawn with my team. Is this caused because of how maps are created and would it be better to create them in a way this cannot happen? Or like MGO you can press select and check around and make sure everything is clear before spawning, is this a good way to help with this? But the thing is in MGO there is still spawn camping going on.

Also another idea is if this is going on someone can choose before spawning to spawn at there spawn, like they took a helicopter over to there side so they can come from behind. What ways do you think can help with this issue? I can't wait to hear from everyone.

Spawn Camping is the most despicable form of camping there is. No player wants to be killed and, upon respawning, be killed again without a chance to prepare. My favourite method for dealing with spawncamping in some games is the "5 Second Invulnerability" feature in some of the Unreal Tournament games. When you respawn, you're completely invincible for 5 seconds, allowing you to run for cover or pick up a couple of weapons.

Worst form of Spawncamping for me is SpawnBombing in Call of Duty 4. People who are way ahead get stuff like airstrikes, and tend to throw Airstrikes at spawnpoints, meaning I'll die, respawn and get killed again, which is horribly frustrating. In this case, I think games should take a Team Fortress approach to respawns, where there is a designated Respawn/Resupply point on the map for each team, that no member of the enemy team can get in (and if they happen to get in by going in at the same time as someone else comes out, they get shot down by a turret guarding the resupply room.)

I'm gonna be basing my opinions off of Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2. If the base is captureable, spawn camping is okay unless you're not trying to actually capture the base. If the base is not captureable, attacking it is still okay but, camping is cheap. You shouldn't be able to get a headshot off me every time I spawn.

I won't lie.... I've spawn camped before but, the way I did it was less 'cheating' and more 'funny'. There was a nice spot on shore in BF2 where I could lay prone and have a clear shot at the deck of the aircraft carrier. Rather than picking off the people waiting for aircraft to spawn (which was more than doable) I would just wait till they weren't all looking at each other. When the time was right, I'd peg one of them in the leg and watch as they start arguing over who shot who. Eventually, it would lead to several noobs on the carrier TKing for first dibs on the aircraft. Good times.

I like the idea of building maps with shelter areas, so if there is spawn camping going on a team can enter the shelter and be able to defend fromt eh shelter and give it a advantage over the attacking forces. Good points on this topic.2008-08-28 17:07:00

If your teams good enough to spawncamp, especialy with the 6 second invulnerable thing, then you might as well do it. Compared to you, they suck, so take advantage or join a harder match, there is absolutly no point in having mercy and going "Oh, bless, they cant kill me in 6 seconds so I'll wait round the corner or something whilst he has a little run-about"2008-08-28 18:26:00

Good point!! Hey if the other team is good enough to spawn camp than what is the problem with it. Even with a 6 second shield, good to hear your opionion on this.

Nice easy tip don't skip the kill cam and the airstrike will be over when you do respawn.

I've only really been playing online games for a couple of years and I don't think I've played a single game that has this issue. Most developers are aware of it so they create ways to counter it.
