Oh yeah! Beyond cool
I'm thinking about making an Egyptian level now
But I'll end up with some sub-standard one

I'm guessing there will be a flood of Egyptian themed levels in the weeks to come. Might be a cool thing. I love Egyptian stuff. Besides, the costumes area a good excuse to go back and play Razhotep's tomb again... ah yes - the level that introduced me to LBPC.2009-04-30 17:14:00

Ah yes, I was trying to remember the name of that amazing level. I really love those costumes though - much better than anything else Mm has churned out in story mode!2009-04-30 17:16:00

I put an 'Egypt Pack' level so people could see the stickers in game. You`re just driving past a wall with stickers on mind you.

I`m quite disappointed. I like ancient Egyptian, but only really the hyroglyphics would be much use for designing. Think I`ll wait for a proper look at the Norse one before making a decision.

I was a bit disappointed too. No decorations, just stickers (other than the costumes) and even the stickers are a bit lame. Oh well - it's only $3.2009-05-01 04:42:00

Wow... the stickers look really lame. Costumes are nice though. I just wish a few new materials were included with these packs like the MGS one, that would be much more useful.2009-05-01 05:37:00

You know, i think it was a bad move for Mm to add so much stuff in the MGS pack, it seems that because of that everyone now wants and expects every single pack to have levels and materials and tools and evereything in them....2009-05-01 06:14:00

I love the Anubis mask but yea - I'm a little disappointed with the stickers. I was hoping for more god and goddess images or some more symbols or something. I'm happy enough though.2009-05-01 07:10:00

I totally disagree. I think it was a smart move, and a step in the right direction to keeping things fresh "creativity-wise".

It's not that everyone now wants or expects it, it's just an extra incentive and will offer a smidgen of what people have been asking for all along. I've been wanting new materials for a long time now, and only got the MGS pack about two weeks ago... so it certainly isn't what I'm basing my desires on.

Adding one or two materials every once in a while with DLC certainly opens up more building options, and would persuade more people to buy the DLC. I like the costumes, but not enough to pay what they are asking without some added content other than costumes and a few lame stickers that aren't of much use unless making a specifically themed level pertaining to the packs.

Just saying...

Yeah, I'd have paid the 2 or 3 quid just for the costumes, they rock! The stickers are a bonus (if a little poor one) but I still think they have potential.2009-05-01 07:44:00

I don't usually buy the mini packs unless they have extra tools, objects or materials but i bought this one because I'm into the whole Egyptian thing and will probably buy the Norse one aswell when it comes out because i love all that aswell. One of my favourite films is 'The Vikings'.

However I agree it was very disappointing. I love the Anubis costume although I have to say the stickers are total rubbish. I made some hieroglyph stickers of my own months ago to put in my world tour level but I deleted them as i wasn't that happy with the result but even so they were much better than these official ones.

The eye of horus isn't even the right shape for god's sake. I can't believe MM have released such useless stickers. I would have scrapped those and started again if I'd been on the team that was making them. If I ever make an Egyptian level I certainly won't be using those stickers, they would totally ruin it.

I'm just glad the Anubis costume looked ok otherwise I'd have been wanting a refund.

I hope MM up the quality for future ones.

I really wonder when Media Molecule will stop to clutter our profile of useless stickers and make decent ones. We need SHAPES and COLORS god ****ed it.

You missunderstood what i meant, but doesn't matter much.

Also, All of you keep in mind that making stickers and making materials/tools are 2 completly different kinds of things, fo one you have to think up a material that's not already given, secondly actually make it which requires also adding the phisics to it and all that stuff.
And third, if they gave everything in every single pack, what would (out of space)

they have to offer in the special packs?
And if they kept giving and giving and giving us materials and tools, we would soon find many bad/usless ones as they run out of ideas, i rather wait and see those packs that outstand from the others for all the stuff they got than get some of everything always as this would soon be unappreciated and become dull...

I really don't care for most of the stickers MM is adding in these packs. I love the costumes, but the stickers are too cartoony and stylized. It seems like MM really pushes towards a certain 'look', but I prefer more realistic and versatile stickers.

I don't know about you guys, but I will NEVER use all the arms, legs, and heads they always throw in.

All the same, I'll buy up any new content they offer. I guess we should be grateful for what they do give us.

Well they don`t really need to programme physics for every new material. If it`s a metal, you simple give it the same properties as the others, which is a case of copy and paste.

They do need to make it look right though and that will take time. Stickers probably take up half an hour so they`ll be the preferred choice for Mm at the moment.

To really make these themed packs worthwhile they really should add one or 2 decorations and materials with them. If they had just one or 2 new materials in every one It'd be an instant buy for me.

NOTE TO MM:If you're going to include stickers DON'T put big ugly white borders on them thus rendering them useless.

There were some cool stickers in the Ragdoll Kung Fu pack that would have worked great in some of my levels but I ended up scrapping because the white borders ruined them.

Unfortunately I am a hoarder by nature. While I dig the Anubis mask, the Egyptian (dlc) is the first time I have been disappointed with the value. It actually took me awhile going through my pop-it to find it. Meager paltry offerings. With that said, you know I wanna dress up like a viking. They had me @ Hello!2009-05-02 01:44:00

I sent MM an email regarding people being unsatisfied with the quality of stickers. I directed them to this thread, so if you'd like more variety with the stickers let them know!

Well, they`d argue you`re paying for the costumes and the stickers are extras. But since most of us here are more interested in creating than dressing up, it doesn`t really help us much.2009-05-02 02:12:00

I think people don't realise the power that proper stickers could have.

Let's take Forza 2 livery editor as an example. It's basically stickers that you apply on a car and people are doing CRAZY things. They freaking reproduce PHOTOS. Just basic shapes and colors.

Usefull stickers could send LBP artistic creativity THROUGH THE ROOF.

Come to think of it the stickers with the Heavenly Sword pack were pretty useless in terms of creating anything other than just sticking them on a wall. Lots of white edges and while the characters from Heavenly Sword are cool (I have the game and adore it) there are really limited uses for them on an LBP level. Would textures or objects used in the game have been a better choice? No complaints about the costumes in the Heavenly Sword or Egyptian pack though. The only minor issue I had is the Sehkmet mask totally covers Sackboys face - not a lot of emoting possible with it. Anubis rocks though.2009-05-02 04:57:00

So that's just made with simple shapes? Amazing!!
LBP does have a limit on how many sticker you can apply to a single object.
So something as complex as this would be really hard even if we had the right stickers.

Well, I didn't meant to say you can do exactly that. Just demonstrating how far some people can push it.

I'm sure that if we had decent stickers we could see some seriously amazing things appear and new artstyles. We can apply quite alot stickers in the game really.

I was one of those people that spent more time doing liveries than I did actually racing in Forza 2. Countless hours and hundreds of layers. My Okami design got a feature on IGN as well. Thinking back about it it was pretty insane the amount of time and effort spent doing that stuff. But it's just proof that if you give gamers the opportunity and tools to be creative they'll run with it.

http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/9956/360degreesofforza2artga.jpg

I think MM just have to realise that LBP is all about the creators. Their DLC should be aimed at expanding the resources, materials and tools available to creators in the game. Costumes are no doubt good for reeling in the more casual players but if MM don't support the creators then the game will start to lose steam and won't live up to its full potential.

"I think MM just have to realise that LBP is all about the creators." - How many times have they said it? Support support support support.

"Their DLC should be aimed at expanding the resources, materials and tools available to creators in the game." - They have done that since launch. You expect new tools every week?

And might I add that okami design on that car there looks fantastic.

I'm going to have to check out that racing game! Those cars are insane!

But, yeah... I think MM has done a thousand things right... But a more versatile set of stickers could do wonders for the game. This is what I'd like to see:

more colors
more shapes
more realistic textures
FONTS
more 3d stickers (plants, decorations, etc)
more eyes, noses, mouths of different styles (realistic and cartoony)
smaller stickers for fine tuning detail

Since applying stickers is the only way we can 'paint' in the game, we need a better variety.

What about making the pictures with materials (Drawing with materials) and taking pictures of it to make stickers?
That counts as painting right?

Yeah, that's how I make my level pictures. Kind of limiting, though. I like to 'paint' directly on my level as I'm creating it. Most of my sticker use is for texture. The smudges and cracks, etc.

They should allow us to create custom sticker shapes, too! (something like the shaping tool in create mode)

That's an AWESOME idea! that would be as easy as making objects ^^.

On another note: In the Norse pack Valkyries hair looks like the one from the LBP Trailer DREAM
