The Epic Thread of Epic Tales

Archive: 23 posts

Okay guys...what is your favourite, most EPIC story of all time? (Maybe we can form a database of stories so that the people interested are just a few clicks away)

Whether it being a Romantic Novel by a crazy half drugged writer, a ******* Movie by the Korean man next door, an ancient historical fact about some old dude and his invention of the wheel...or your very own (but totally rubbish) fiction story you have written due to boredom!

Mine has to be The Passion of the Christ....I loved that movie a little too much for my own good (if that's even possible).

The story (which I am very well used to, ever since I was mature enough to understand my faith) is epic in it's own right. The way it was portrayed was sad, it was disturbing, yet it was a masterpiece! A very beautiful movie, and I recommend anyone to watch it, no matter the religion!

My second most favourite story...is the story of LEONIDAS AND THE 300 SPARTANS! . A true historical story could not be much more epic than this!

300 almost ties in the The Passion; It's shear brilliance in every aspect. From the story itself, the atmosphere, the narrative, the acting (in the movie, of course, as I am yet to actually read the graphic novel) the lighting, the cinematography...everything in that movie was beautiful....even the blood and gore was beautiful in it's own way!

Well, now it's your turn...What is YOUR favourite, most EPIC tale?

I am huge fan of Dragonlance, start off with the Chronicles, than the legends, than second generation and than end with the last chronicle. They are great books. These are the ones writting by Margaret weis and Tracy Hickman and those are the ones you want to read. there are some others that are good also and you just have to be picky on what you like about dragonlance.

Also some others to check out would be Stephen Kings The Dark Tower Series is good, also I liked the harry potter series also.

Yeah, Watchmen was awesome- as were a few Batman graphics novels, like Year One, the Dark Knight Returns, Long Halloween, Dark Victoy, Arkham Asylum, and the Killing Joke- but if we go down that thread of logic, it kind of only says what a good storyline is, which may or may not equal epic, depending on what epic means.2008-08-29 21:54:00

I'd have to say the Foundation Trilogy by Isaac Astinov. Thank god Hollywood hasn't buchered them yet. (this is mostly due to how complicated they are)2008-08-29 22:32:00

Foundation Trilogy by Isaac Astinov.

What Code said above and Douglas Adams Epic Tales of Epic Adventure through the Universe which include

The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy
The Restaurant at the End of the Universe
Life, The Universe and Everything
So Long, and Thanks For All The Fish
Mostly Harmless

He also has some other pretty cool books as well.

The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is a classic too, it was a close second for me.

Ratchet & Clank is where it's at. More so the original and the final levels of Tools of Destruction. I liked how the original had conflicts between Ratchet and Clank, and the last couple parts of ToD were pretty cool. 2008-09-20 16:20:00
