To put it simple, the specs in the PS3 make it high spec for what it does, but putting different software on it will get much lower results in performance then expected. So I've heard. | 2009-04-29 13:04:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |

The only people able to access the sweet graphics card, RAM, processor, etc. are Sony. You wouldn't get much out of your PS3 if you changed it... | 2009-04-29 18:19:00 Author: tjb0607 Posts: 1054 |

The PS3 will not run any games written for Windows, no matter what you do. If you want to install a proper OS, you have the choice between Linux, Linux and Linux. Quite a tough choice certainly, because all three options are most excellent to be sure. Neither is a particularly good choice for a gamer though, unless you love text adventures or emulated 80s vintage games. If you do choose to install Linux on the PS3, you get nearly full access to the Cell processor (6 out of 7 SPEs available, but most standard software will not use even a single one) and the RAM (all of it minus the hypervisor needs). Access to the graphics interface (aka the RSX) is severely crippled though. Edit: correction - you can emulate a Windows PC on Linux, complete with 3D graphics and all. You'd have to do a lot of tinkering to set that up though, and you'd have to measure game fluidity in frames per minute, not per second. It is technically possible but the enjoyment would lie in getting it to run (if that's your taste) but certainly not in actually playing. | 2009-04-29 19:54:00 Author: tameturtle Posts: 150 |
