HOLY CRAP! This is huge. PlayStation is making their next step in portable gaming. Personally I'm not a huge fan of the whole, entriely digital distribution idea, but if theres a diverse library sign me up.

discuss.

I love my PSP-1000, but I'll be getting this if it promises what I've seen so far.

I just hope it sells better than the original PSP has. Sony doesn't deserve to be so underpopular in gaming.

Unfortunately for those looking for twin-stick shooter controls, the new system will not have a second analog stick, but instead will remain consistent with the current control configuration.

Meh.........

tbh playing with only one stick isn't as bad as I thought when I first got my PSP.

I can't really imagine two sticks on it...

To be fair, Syphon Filter did a great job with the controls and many had the same after then. I put moving to x, o, etc and aiming to the anologue nub. However, for MGSO it was in dire need of a second anologue stick. If they added a second anologue nub, the device would just be amazing. I don't get why they won't (if this is true), as they should move forward with the PSP. oh well.

My problem with the current analog nub on the PSP is that it isn't...responsive enough. Its far too difficult to control with it. If that were improved, I would be fine with a single stick.

Someday, hopefully, there will be 2. But it just wouldn't be consistent with old PSP games if they did that, and this just sounds like a major remodel, not a new system entirely.

I very much doubt I'll get a newer model until the proper PSP2 comes out.

I still have the original PSP from the first day it came out though I haven't even turned it on for about 2 years lol

Well i've heard it will be a model with a sliding thingy like you see on the picture...

Here are some variations:

If this ends up real, Sony can kiss good bye my support.

Customer freedom is too important for me. I cannot support a digital-only model. We need CHOICES. I want physical purchases.

If that last one was what it turned out to be like... i would definatly buy it. They'll actually persuade me to go the non CFW route. However... if it doesn't have those 2 anologue nubs... :arg:

UMDs are a massive failure. Digital content is far superior due to the fact that you can put it on any memory device, easily.

Though I do agree you would have to go out of your way to download things...just go into an internet cafe ffs and use the wireless to download the games if you have to. Best part is, you won't have to worry about a scratched disk, and will be allowed to re-download it (probably).

Those were IGNs opinions. Including LBP portable on it would be a great marketing move, as its a very user-friendly game (the ps3 version at least).

Edit: I liked the second one. Having a built in keyboard, and an improved browser, would be an immensely useful thing to have. They need to improve the PS3 browser as well. Hope they eventually do.

Two words: PreOwned Games. You know what i love most about buying on disc? That i can sell it when i'm done. You can't sell digital stuff. I wouldn't own most the games on PS3 if it wasn't for being able to sell them again.

Exactly!
I do not support DD, at all.
+ there are like no internet cafe's here, only one where the computers are all WIRED.

also, I never scratched any UMD I had :s

That is a problem. Lol.

Reselling is abuse-able and probably mostly illegal. It may give you more cash...but that's it. Its digital content, whether or not its on a disc doesn't change that fact.

Still, I can see your disappointment.

Think of it this way, if everybody could freely trade games, what stops the abuse? 3 people can each own the same game for 3 months each, over 9 months. This means that the company has only made money from a single selling. That isn't fair to the retailer at all.

Indeed. Though to be honest i still don't mind the downloading. I have a good internet connection... all it means is that i'll buy less games. But certain games (maybe a next MGSO of some sort) i love to have in physical form because i have all the MGS games like that. 2009-04-29 19:53:00

It's Sony's latest attempt to combat piracy, hidden behind this shiny device.
Not that I'm complaining

Oh - you updated your post lol xD

Hmm, well that's just part of the business though. But i disagree, cause retailers make money from this. Think of it like this, I buy the game off of them for ?30. i later trade it back in, they give me ?12 for it, and sell it for ?20.
For one game, instead of a profit of ?30, they can make ?38. Assuming you go to the same one. But it's safe to assume this, because the probability of the shops getting an amount of preowned games in would probably all be even.
When i said selling, i meant to the shops. Cause I do it all the time.
On the note of legal issues... well it totally is. As the shops allow it.

I can see where you're coming from, but honestly the shops probably make more money due to preowned games. It is possible to abuse it, but the amound that don't more than make up for it.
Also... with the digital download... where will retailers come in then? It would probably be off of a sony store... so the retailers really lose out totally with digital media.

Fiiinally, i just like having the disc, sort of like collecting things. You could say that the Interpol EP i bought off ebay for ?120 was a waste of money, as i could have downloaded the tracks easily (i did before anyway xD ), but there's something nice about having things in physical form. Feels more real, and if something goes wrong electronically, you won't lose it (thus have to download it again). In case your wondering, the CD cost so much cause there's only 500 worldwide.

I'm very negative towards this, but if it happens i still don't mind too much, i'll just miss going to the store to pick up games and selling and stuff

Tis just a concept picture though I think?
No second analogue stick is a BIG mistake.
LBP with 1 analogue stick? How's that gonna work?

Hold L1 and swing your arms with the stick (left arm)
hold R1 and swing your arms with stick (right arm)
apart from that I don't see the need for a second stick on LBP.

Create mode?
And if R1 was that, what would be grab? obviously it could be triangle or something, but that won't feel as right lol.
Though to be honest i wouldn't care about swinging the arms on PSP.

Physical games are superior than downloaded ones because of this:

-You can lend them to anybody you like.
-It's not dependant on your memory support.
-You can sell it.

"Digital only" will be interesting the day it will AT LEAST reach the convenience level of a physical release.

Agreed. I much prefer having a physical copy. There's also the problem that you can't bring a digitally released game to your friends house, rendering all those PSN party games useless if you plan to go to someone elses place. Sure, I could bring the whole PS3, but that's a pain in the neck.

Just think of it from the perspective of Sony. Digital is the way to go for them. I do see where it could encounter issues, though.2009-04-30 07:05:00
