Hey guys! i noticed that guitarist thread in that other section so i thought id make this. i was wondering if anyone else here plays the bass? i play it, and i really enjoy it. id recommend it to anyone thinking about playing any sort of instrument ~ gofurr

My friend Halfasack on here plays the bass. I dabble a little bit myself but don't actually own a bass. I mainly stick to guitar

How long have you been playing gofurr? I'm going on 3 years myself. My biggest downfall is learning like every guitarest of the e-generation.. i learned tabs and never learned keys, notes, or scales. Sooner or later im gonna get down on some lessons for what i mentioned... I was thinking about getting a drum set and getting back to the drums... i seem to have great rythem but not that good an ear for tone

hey halfasack, ive been playing for about 2 years. im still not the greatest on it, but people say im pretty good at it :] ive only learned tabs as well, but i wish id have learned to read notes :| good to see some other people who play bass too!

I have a feeling learning notes will be almost like starting over But from what I understand good bands know notes/keys/scales and all that good jazz. What bands ya coverin? I need to start working on roundabout by Yes, such a phenomenal bass line.

As far as I know it wuoldn't be like starting over, but just starting something new. You are still going to have all of your muscle memory and skill you had before; and that's what counts really. Just need to know what notes / scales your playing to play more efficently.

But bro my muscle memory for like 46 and 2 is 0--0----0--- --7--7h9--9p7 ya know not like A-----a ---b#b7 etc etc. Thats why i think its gonna be like starting over. I gotta teach myself to think in notes instead of numbers. Difficulty and confusion insues.

Your muscle memory is for playing certain patterns / on certain places. I don't think it will effect your playing at all; they remain seperate. You'll still have the muscle memory; you'll just actually know what your playing. I need to study some more music theory. I barely started scratchign the surface. I"m learning what notes some power chords and stuff are too though

yeah, thats what id think, too, hamsalad. as for what i play, theres too big of a list D: i dont really stick with one band, but rather just learn random songs i can think of. here are some i can play pretty well, off the top of my head: the impression that i get by Mighty Mighty Bosstones mr smiley by Mustard Plug feelgood inc by Gorillaz fluorescent adolescent by arctic monkeys down down down to mephisto's cafe by streetlight manifest (im not so great at that one) a better place, a better time by streetlight manifesto i know how to play more, but again these are the ones i remembered off the top of my head. edit: i think i need to learn some music theory too lol

feel good inc is a nasty bass line. one of the first I opted to learn. simple, but awesome. Pawn shop by sublime is a good easy, yet improvisable, and keeps a good beat. My most recent project is Californication by Chili Peppers.

The timing on cali is pretty tough. Especially for the intro/verse. Pay close attentino to the guitar, and you'll find your rythem. It's a fun jam to rock out. Soul to squeeze by the chili peppers i also hold in high regard for a funky bass line, with a slap solo! Good times... To pratice for californication give 46 and 2 by tool a try. Good hammer on/pull off practice in that song.

I can never achieve the right sound when attempting ghost notes. It's my understanding their like half notes immedietly before the next note to be played. But im lvl 1 with music theory so someone please correct me if im wrong.
