Level publishing problems

Archive: 14 posts

I don't know why this happens and I think its dumb. whenever i publish a level now, i get some plays when i publish it they rate it 5 stars and then it just goes away. I mean I have a level that took me months to create, it had 3 hearts and 5 plays with a five star rating, but after the first hour in which i published it, no one played it, it was up for a week later and it hasn't had any plays since the first hour! This always happens to me so i delete and republish but the same thing happens. Can someone explain what is going on? i mean there are two star levels in the first 5 pages of cool levels but a 5 star level doesnt stay? I just don't understand and it makes me mad that my months of work seem like they are going to waste.2009-04-29 01:34:00

In order to stay on the cool pages (at least in the short term) you need to publish and keep publishing it on top of itself to refresh it on the cool pages. There are threads dedicated to good publishing practices by CCubbage and a few other creators here.

https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=9605&highlight=Publish

https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=10365&highlight=Good+Publishing

https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=5473&highlight=publish

https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=8092&highlight=publish

That should be a pretty good set of threads for referencing publishing practices. Good luck!

This is probably really stupid but how do you republish a level and upload a picture?2009-04-29 01:50:00

We all learn as we go - not a stupid question at all.

To upload a photo - take a photo, then go to the popit menu while you're still on the level you want to upload the photo to. Go to the photo and press the square button. Select the upload option. It should be visible on the level menu in about 10-20 minutes then.

To republish a level - select the level on your moon - then select Publish option. When the map of the world comes up move the badge of the level in the exact same spot as the previously published level. Then just publish over the top of the older one. You won't loose plays or hearts as long as you don't move it.

WOW! THANKS! Using what you said my level got on the first page for ten minutes and it got 10 players in it at once! I got 7 hearts and 30 plays! more than my level thats been up for a year! but one question. If i stop republishing and start again tomorrow night will it never show up if i republish it? or as soon as i republish it will it pop back up to page 7 or something? (just wondering because by tomorrow my levels will prolly be on page 100. please answer asap.2009-04-30 02:36:00

I think it will drop off eventually tonight but when you republish it should go back to page 1 temporarily as a "new" level. That's why you republish it a bunch at first to keep it on page 1 for as long as possible.

Just keep in mind that levels only stay on the cool pages for 7 days now.

The other thing I forgot to mention (I think it was mentioned in threads I listed) Is that you have to make a small change before you publish it again. I usually just make a shape off screen and tweak it with the corner edit tool for the changes I make when I republish.

Hope that helps Just let me know if you need any thing else answered. I try to find answers if I don't know them off hand.

All of what Morgana has said is true, and if you read the threads she posted you'll learn even more. The truth is most of us think the system is broken at best. Bu you work with what you're given right?

So yes... especially in the first few days after a new release (you can start over by deleting and republishing in a new spot - but you will lose all your plays, hearts, and comments) you'll want to republish as often as possible (I also keep a shape well off camera, but I use the change material tool and change it back and forth between cardboard, sponge, wood, etc.). And remember... you only get 7 days, so make the best of them. Go tell your friends, come to the forums and advertise (no H4H-ing though, obviously), do whatever you can to get more plays. This whole level-pimping / republishing process is not for everyone.

After a certain number of plays (~300, if your rating and heart-to-play ratio stays high enough), the level will become "cemented" on the cool pages. At that point it will stay on whatever page it's on and compete specifically with the other levels on that page. If it does well, the badge will get larger, eventually surpassing in size all others on that page and finally "popping" up to the next page. Hopefully it will climb its way to page one before your 7 are up.

Now... one more peice of advice, then I'll shut up and go away. Even after getting cemented onto the cool pages (which, by the way, you can tell by the glow under your badge disappearing - go look now, some have a glow and others do not... those without it are cemented in)... even after this it is important to keep republishing (perhaps not as often). Here's why... when you republish it will place your level back on page one again, even if only for a few minutes. It will then slowly (or sometimes very rapidly) fall back down through the pages to the page where it is cemented. It will only drop below this point if it is beat out by all the other levels on that page.

Okay - that was not short... heck I probably just reiterated everything in the threads posted by Morgana! It was from the hard work and testing of these very smart folks that I learned all of this and have been able to get two of my levels over 3,000 plays each!

Anyway... I hope this helps and that it wasn't too confusing.

Well then i have one question myself if you don't mind.

I have a level that's a couple of months old (vefore the 7 day rule was implemented), and its already long gone from the cool pages (which it didn't last for more than a couple of minutes...) and it has a hundread and something plays.
I have just finished revamping it, and i was wondering if it would still get a shot to get on the cool pages if i published the new version on top of the old version, or if i should just publish it as a new one and do "the procidure" to try to ensure its stay on the cool pages?

Nope - You have to start over, I'm afraid. It sucks, but that's the way it's set up.2009-04-30 05:29:00

it's the new icon for the reputation rating on the site. Whenever you use the thanks button on a post or click the scales under a users name in a post you add to a users reputation. You can thank for useful info, something you want to thank someone for, or for something you appreciate. The more Thanks/Rep you get the more crowns you'll see (Check out ConfusedCarman's - it's like the Brittish royal family over there. lol) They used to be little green boxes but Killian made the crowns to look like the LBP crown. There's a thread for this topic too if you want to thank him.... hint 2009-05-03 01:16:00
