WovenEye: Cutting The Cloth (with pics)

Archive: 39 posts

The final part in the 0013 series is finally finished. Moving from Siberia to Mexico you finally get your showdown with Dr. Cloth, and your revenge. Heres the level description:

After the tragic events of Siberia, 0013 heads to Mexico to stop Dr. Cloths plans for his satellite laser weapon WovenEye. But Dr. Cloth is expecting him for a final showdown, can 0013 but a blob of paint right between Cloths eyes and get his revenge? The level has taken me exactly one week, and contains all the usual, puzzles and platforming, there are only two uses for the paintinator in the level this time, I was getting a bit tired and out of ideas for its use. There are also 12 secrets to find in the level.

Once you have completed the level, collect the sticker at the end and use it when you next playthrough to remove all magic mouths, and add in race gates for a better score. This took quite a bit of time because the level goes to night, and I basically had to re-light the entire level all over again to make sure it played well in both times of day

Heres some pics

Oh I guess no one did post!

So for my feedback...

As usual, you level was beautiful, fun, and long. Each of those things make a level so much better. I loved how when you spawned you could see the scoreboard, shows that you are THE MASTER OF BACKTRACKING, and no one else can take that title from you. The level was a great change from snowy Siberia, it made you feel like you were in a desert. Not Mexico though, so it's a good thing you left that out of the title. Your puzzles were great and fun and each were a good length. The boss was cool, yet nothing new and epic.

There were several things I didn't like though; just after the spike wheel things, you have to use a sponge ball on a winch to get up, and when you grab it, it keeps going. Well I grabbed it and went up, then went back down trying to get the secret, but when I tried to get back up it got stuck at the top, as the ball went onto the roof, and when it was pulled by the winch, it swung, then every pull it got farther away and even more stuck. Also, there were many puny dark matter things scattered across the level holding things up; these looked ugly. They may have helped you building, but they aren't eye pleasing. Also, the second thing that Dr. Cloth says is censored. And finally the level title was kinda mis-leading as it seems like another series, might be confusing for people not on these forums.

All in all, a great level worth playing, 5 stars and hearted!

Also, for F4F, could you do my Bouncing Balls ~ Survival Challenge level? I just made a video for it, and I can't bump it. Thanks!

Once again great level! I can't believe it took you only a week to make this, even with all the MM stuff! Couple issues i noticed: Censored speech bubbly by cloth, ball not coming down again (but cog mentioned those already ) and you can walk right by the race gate (oops). Also, in the race mode you still have a few magic mouths by the woveneye control tower thingy (the ones that say they've scrambled the jets and go after cloth)

I had a little issue with the boss, if you shoot one of the missiles when it spawns (and this was unintentional lol) It'll blow off the wing, and completely mess up the missile launches. Also, the center door is within the range of the rockets, so a couple times i died right after i spawned BC the missile launched right where i was. The waving spotlights were kinda distracting too lol.

The day/night thing is pretty darn cool, and the MGS track is a perfect fit for that time trial there .

Once again, i still can't find all those darned secrets, but meh, thats nothing new

Once again, great level, now when is the next series coming out?

I loved this level. The only thing I had a hard time with was the puzzle, but that's a fault of mine, because I hate to read, and I skimmed through the instructions which told me exactly what to do.

I'm frankly surprised I beat the boss, because I am not very good at boss battles in this game, apparently, but I did it on my last life! Hurray. I actually didn't know this was the last in the series, and I was kinda sad that it had to end.

Anyway, you got five stars and a heart from me, because it really was a great level.. I think I'm gonna go downstairs and force mr. catiers to play it with me again later.

Great work. Next make a crystal cave/ghost themed level. With cats.

Fantastic level! It's got the feel of the first series but it's so different in a lot of ways. Loved the look, loved the puzzles, Loved the boss. The way you've got the secrets this time around I really enjoyed. I've always liked the secrets on your levels but these were really fun to hunt out. I found them all - except 1 (sent you a pic - I'm so proud!)

Didn't see any problems but it did take me a little while to figure out the reprograming bit. I wouldn't recommend changing it because it eventually clicked for me.

About the showdown at the end (there isn't a choice is there? - If you want to finish you have to do, what you have to do right? Just thought it could be interesting if there was a choice of what to do that would affect the final score or outcome)

Still - I love the level - 5 stars and a well deserved heart! Thanks for sharing it!

Great work. Next make a crystal cave/ghost themed level. With cats.

You mean, crystal cave/BOX ghost themed level with rocket cheetahs?

Anyway, I was lucky enough (cocks gun) to playtest this level, and it is a treat. Through playtesting I realised that Gruntosuk is human, the unfinished level made me realise that he just polishes/playtests heaps, not on his first try, which was a relief lol!

Nice to see the 5 star 1:5 heart ratio rating! It deserves it! (Actually 1:2 and a half, because of replay, but I'm jelous )

Change the description to "Can 0013 paint the town red tonight and get his revenge?" Also, "can" isn't capitalised. Just fyi.

Cool intro, nice orangy colour scheme. The MM cactus annoys me, and the flat foreground decoration on your left has a dot, looks like invisible dark matter. Still the red gas in foreground? I thought you were going to use 3 planes of fire? What would be cool though, would be if it was a big drop before the bottom, and you see scenery fly past, before landing on an electrified train track? (thermo allowing). That would be awesome. Still dunno why the secrets hace a triangle on them, and r1 sticker (Jaeydens level) would be more appropriate. The background rocks are cool! I noticed a lot of walking on flat ground from the first jumps. Maybe have you dodging gas/fire or something. An enemy would be good here. I love the integration with the materials! Really cool. Just noticed you didn't explain what the secrets were. While obvious for some, you could mistake it for a random decoration. The sponge on a winch. Put a thin layer piece of invisible dissolve/rubber, and make an invisible dark matter track to stop it from getting stuck (shaped like a funnel). I had to restart the level, because of this . The first time the message didn't show up. I dunno if I accidentally jumped past/over the sensor, but nothing came up. Maraz_mataris talking tool has been playing up for me too lately . Would be cool if there was a light to tell you which wheels weren't lined up correctly. Because it can be hard to pick out the bad ones. The two upgrade removers were ugly. Make the entrance smaller, and use one perhaps? One looks alright, two looks ugly. The massive puzzle room would be easier if the speech bubbles appeared one at a time like "find the keys to the room" *go and do that* "grab the reprogramming yadda yadda" *go do that* etc. I didn't know to put the sponges back where they came from, I'd forgotten. That last section, it was hard to push it in the middle layer, as sackboy flys in the front layer. Worked funny. I un-jetpacked and did it, but the glass made it difficult. If it were sloped? The door in the room after the puzzle, you enter the room, and the next door wasn't so obvious, because it was in the back plane. The decoration in the room with 1 3-way switch controlling the arrow, the top decoration with 3 LED lights wasn't glued down. You should invert the afore mentioned 3-way. When you pull right it goes left and vice-versa. I didn't realise the button was revealed when it "restarted". A simple speech bubble would fix this . That seems to be a recurring theme of your levels doesn't it? A switch revealing a switch . The room on the right of the long elevator, with the writing etc is cool. "Scrambled the jets" huh? A little bit awkward. How about "Readied the jets" or "Gathered the jets"? Dr Cloth is Japanese? I didn't know that! (japanese writing doesn't really fit, imo. Did he have sumo body guards?) Lol, that pun was craptastic! :hero: The white spotlights were very destracting during the boss . It would have been better, imo, if the Day/Night Transition occured halfway through the boss battle, and gradually. I died mainly because of it . Playing through again, you should rename the level "Quantom of Sackoce" lol, being in a desert and everything. The end of the boss was dramatic, with fire works etc, very cool. Make the boss groan when you kill him?

I liked the level, I really did, although I may have sounded a bit harsh. I didn't like this as much as your other levels however, I'm sorry to say. It looked good throughout, with a few spots of invisible dark matter (holes) in the decorations, the spotlights were destracting, some things were out of place. In short, to my fault or not, the level looked like it had been ( no offence ) rushed to market for the spotlight. I would give the level 84%, 4 stars, if it weren't for the complete rubbish that has 5 star ratings. I don't know, your later levels don't seem to have the same love and care. Number 1 was one of my favourites, because it had this. Almost perfect. This. Well. I'm mildly dissapointed. I hope you look at my feedback, I really do, because this could easily be a 100% level, if you touch up some reasonably sized problems. Although, I was forced to 5 star and heart, so that A) my opinion didn't ruin your rating, and because I'm rating "relatively" compared to other LBP levels (like RAMP).

PS. Feedback on my level coming soon if possible!

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I've had a look at the problems this morning

@cog

Hopefully fixed now, I've reduced the minimum length of the winch, should stop it happening

Also, there were many puny dark matter things scattered across the level holding things up; these looked ugly. They may have helped you building, but they aren't eye pleasing.

Your not the first to comment on these Cog, to late to change them now, but I'll alter the way I do them in the next level

Also, the second thing that Dr. Cloth says is censored. And finally the level title was kinda mis-leading as it seems like another series, might be confusing for people not on these forums.

Text fixed, it was happpened again, its sort of ruined the Star Wars reference but never mind. As for the title, people who have played the levels will recognise WovenEye and Cloth I'm sure, its only really people on these forums I care about anyway

@BurnVictim

Once again great level! I can't believe it took you only a week to make this, even with all the MM stuff!

What MM stuff? I only used the cactus, and the cogs ;p

Couple issues i noticed: Censored speech bubbly by cloth, ball not coming down again (but cog mentioned those already )

Fixed

And you can walk right by the race gate (oops).

Fixed

Also, in the race mode you still have a few magic mouths by the woveneye control tower thingy (the ones that say they've scrambled the jets and go after cloth)

Fixed

I had a little issue with the boss, if you shoot one of the missiles when it spawns (and this was unintentional lol) It'll blow off the wing, and completely mess up the missile launches. Also, the center door is within the range of the rockets, so a couple times i died right after i spawned BC the missile launched right where i was. The waving spotlights were kinda distracting too lol.

Not intentional, but fixed, I've removed the Cardboard that was making up part of the boss and replaced it for metal. Should fix it. As for the rockets hitting the door, that never happened before but it was to easy for the player to stand in the checkpoint and be safe, I'll try and tone it down. The spotlights are supposed to be a little distracting, the boss was much to easy without them.

Once again, i still can't find all those darned secrets, but meh, thats nothing new

Once again, great level, now when is the next series coming out?

I've done a good job with the secrets then! And the next part?? Dunno, I could do a fight with WovenEye I suppose

@Morgana

No there is no choice, same as the last part really Thermo won't allow any changes unfortunatly, I thought that you'd want to do it though if you'd played the earlier levels.

@DKJestrup

I'll have a look at the things you mentioned later, thanks for honest feedback though, very much appreciated. The level was'nt rushed for the spotlight, more to get things finished so I can get these other ideas out of my mind before they vanish, and to see just how fast I could knock a level out I'll fix everything to the best of the thermo later on.

Thanks all of the above for playing and leaving feedback, the problems are fixed (apart from DK's). I'll also get to your F4F later.

Hey Grant!!

Well, time be all official, and post feedback

The looks. The looks were really good obviously, as in all your levels. It really did give you that Mexico-feeling, and your use of lights is excellent
(The fact it turns dark when starting race mode, really nice effect to get it that much more dramatic)

The gameplay, I really love your puzzles, and in this part of the series you had some good puzzles once again! Still there were a few parts where it was just pulling a switch or two, but there's one puzzle that makes up for all of it.
Reprogramming those tokens. I really really liked that puzzle, and in my opinion it's a bit of a shame that you explained it, but then again the majority of people might not know what to do. When i tested the level before there were these Magic Mouths, you had me puzzles for a while, and when i did find out what to do it was quite satisfying. Also, the looks here are really good, i liked how the new token rolled out of the machine There's one tiny issue, and.. there's really no need to fix it, but the "old token" stays in the box you throw it in. So.. if you accidentally drop the new token here, it sticks out.. which looks a bit ugly. And if you accidentally pull out the old one, you have two identical tokens. So that could be a bit confusing.

The secrets, though really well hidden (Heck, i believe i still haven't found one.. o.O) they look a bit ugly in my opinion. It's just a ball with a triangle on it, that dissolves as soon as you grab it. And then the score bubbles just get emitted. I really REALLY hate emitters I think it looks really ugly, but then again. It's too late for you to change it now, but i'd love to see prettier ways of spawning the score bubbles. (It can be just as simple as putting it in a little tunnel, and then dissolve a piece that holds it back, and when you grab the secret the bubbles gently roll out. In my opinion it looks a whole lot better than just spawning them.)

Race mode, obviously race mode is cool. Everything gets more dramatic, and it's an adrenaline rush. I like how you have to choose between racing, and getting secrets. As some secrets take too much time to get, wasting all those race-points. And i think it's a good thing that you dissolve the sticker switch once you get to a certain point. (I tried pwning the highscores by getting all secrets, then run back and activate the race )

Overall, obivously another hearted level that gets 5 stars

As soon as the first text activates the sticker switch dissolves Thommy, to stop you doing exactly what you tried .

Thanks for the feedback, and the kind words. I'll see what I can do about the problems you mentioned, although like you said its to late for the secrets now. I still think its possible on a good run to get all the secrets, I can whizz through the level and do it, but its a little unfair for me to have the high score seeing as I played it a hundred times to test

Thanks again

Hey Grant,

Sorry I couldn't post this last night. I had the TV 'taken' away from me after I played your level the third time ("I don't want to miss American Idol" could be heard all through this house!)

Ok so here we go...just copying my notes:

1st Impression:

Nice change of scenery!

OK Once you have uploaded the program at the top it says "We are bringing it out 'if' orbit." It should be 'of'

The secrets as always are fun and challenging!

Humm...Died at the boss...Dont like dying in the shelter, I thought I'd be safe there...The message says stay in the blue lights to be safe from the missile attacks...It should be worded differently as you don't want to be 'in' the light, but need to be 'within' the two lights.

Ok 2nd run through...Got much farther with the Boss...but...I destroyed his right side somehow, but left half of the left wing (with tank attached) floating in the air shooting Plasma balls at me. (Missiles were disabled when he exploded) Was on my last man and after 5 min I ran into a plasma ball. I could swear I killed that tank at least twice.

OK third times a charm...Everything worked fine.

Nice touch that you can see a 'missed' secret just right of you when you get down to the scoreboard level. So I went back up and tried to go back...but...you closed off the way back....sly dog! Trying to make me replay to find it!

So I loved it...yes there was some visible dark matter holes but I didn't feel it was rushed. I thought the game play and puzzles were on par with your other levels!

I did think it was kinda anti-climatic though...I know we defeated the Heli but I guess I didn't think about Cloth being in it. Aren't the 'Hench men' always in the killing rolls while the 'real' bad guy sneaks out the back door?

On the whole I loved it and the whole series!

5 stars and Hearted!

So I played this.
I loved it. So very much.
I can't believe how fast you work, especially as you've been ill. There are only 2 little things I must complain about. Sorry
Firstly, you have a wall made of invisible dark matter. You told me not to do this when I showed you my level. Hypocrite
And it's possible to cheat at the already incredibly easy boss. But I'll PM you about that.

Well made!
It was quite detailed and the boss was pretty bug, but... you might want to sprey some "Raid" at the end, because i found a bug there

As you can see, you can enter the elevator even when the door is closed....

Well I love your level. I will have to give you my thoughts on the ending after a rather bizarre bug that prevented me from finishing.

Just after I reset the console thing, the platform appeared with the switch on it. I jumped on it and it started to move as I landed on it.. As I went to grab the switch and ended up grabbing the swinging sponge in the front plane and had to watch helplessly as the platform continued on its way with me stranded down below.

There`s not a lot that could be done about that, other than maybe lowering the glass shield so that it starts below the sponge, but to be honest, its probably such a rare occurance that I wouldn`t bother, jus thought I`d share.

The rest was the usual fantastic, intricate level I expected.

Another very cool level with great puzzles. It took me a while to figure out the jetpack puzzle first time around, but I didn't really take notice of the text.

The race mode in this level is also awesome. It must've taken quite some engineering to remove/disable the magic mouths, change the music and make it night

It's not the best of your levels, but it's still awesome, considering it took just a week to make.

Another 5/5 stars and heart

Well, you've made another masterpiece and a great conclusion to the series! The desert theme was a nice break from being in the cold area of the previous levels, and it was a great use of the tools in create pack 1! The way you saw the scoreboard at the start was awesome, and like the others, you do lots of awesome backtracking.

Overall 5 stars and hearted. A great conclusion to this epic series!

Sorry I didn't get to do as much of a testing job on this level, since I was rushing out of town. Got back in town and got to play it tonight. This is actually my favorite one in the "Woveneye" series (what do I call it now that Siberia is complete??)

The "reprogramming" puzzle in here made me think a bit more than your prior levels, and I absolutely loved the action sequence near the end. Great job!

I just played this again for the 3rd time, since i somehow deleted the Sticker for the race.

And i managed to get fourth place Yay! But ughh! i was so ****** i died twice in the boss battle because of some risky moves i tried to pull.

I could have gotten a better score!

I truly had fun with this level and all of its episodes, Its a shame people these days dont even bother hearting, since your levels deserve more plays and hearts than they currently have.

I my self am having a hard time getting my new levels to stick in the cool levels, its a mystery to me how people get their levels in.

And it looks like this is it for the series eh Gruntos? I wonder what your workin on now?

I'm working on three things at the moment Ones a collab. with another two creators from the forums which should be finished the next couple of days, one I'm waiting for the horror pack before I continue, and the other, its a secret that no one has seen, heard of or playtested as of yet, but its looking quite cool so far

Like all your other levels in this series, this is crazy-long, crazy-complicated, and crazy-awesome.

I have just a couple things to point out -

1) I didn't want to kill Dr. Cloth Where's the pacifist option?

2) I almost retriggered the first checkpoint, when I was at the very end.
I was all like, 'Ooo checkpoint!' and just barely stopped myself before it lit up. I don't know if you have a way to return to the end, but if you don't, you might want to add it.

3) Through this entire series there are what, like, 9,001 magic mouths, and maybe 1 in 10 has a spelling/grammar error. It's really not bad, and honestly probably doesn't matter, but I am a grammar/spelling nazi so I have to point it out.

Very nice job. Definitely MM-caliber, and although the violent storyline isn't MM-style the level design certainly is. Gave 5 stars and hearts to the entire series. Keep up the great work!

Hey GrantosUK, I just played your level, up to the point i got, it was great.

You know its gonna be a good level as soon as you spawn.Nice combo of materials and you really captured That you are in a secret base in the desert. Because even when you are inside the base, there are rocks coming through the metal and stuff.I also liked how you see the paths you will go through later in the level.Nice use of lighting. There were some nice platforming as well as some extra challenge if you try to get the little triangle things for points, which require you to think outside the box at times.Everything worked and felt right. You had some nice puzzles but here is the big problem. The puzzle where you put the keys in the slots was confusing.I went in the rooms the keys opened, and i put the little balls into the holes with the arrows, and nothing happened.I went around and grabbed all the sponge things and pulled out all the drawers with balls in them and put all the balls into the holes, and the green lights started flashing in the upper right of the two rooms. But i couldnt tell if it did anything.I went into the room on the left and grabbed the little sponge that triggered a triangle then grabbed it, nothing but bubbles. finally i went to the top left and saw arrows pointing to the left and thought i found the way, but i couldnt get through there either. I flew around for like 5-10 minutes after that trying to figure it out but could not. So i cannot comment on the rest of your level. Maybe add more direction, as some of the speech bubbles(The one in the bottom right room that is opened withthe sponge and glass key) disappeared very quickly because i was moving quickly, so to fix this i would suggest making that one a cutscene bubble so i cant accidently skip it.

Sorry if that was just a bunch of rambling, i have a hard time explaining things sometimes lol Great level as far as i can tell though, rated a 4. Could use some F4F on my Human body level, thread in level showcase. Thanks!

There are symbols on each of the "modules" that you take from the drawers. Outside each room where you put the keys are the same symbols, you have to "reprogram" them and put them back in the correct draws, this will give you another "module" that you put where the arrow is and it will open the door to let you exit.

Thanks for playing the level and giving me feedback, and I'm pleased you enjoyed playing it. The best part of the level is yet to come though

Greetings!

Returning the F4F favor.

Wow... first level that I have felt I needed to take notes! Might be handy to have an extra portal there in the upload portion as I died doing something silly and got lost getting back there from the previous portal. I decided to restart and figured out my mistake and beat the level the 2nd time through...

Awesome bunch of stuff in that level!! Whoa.. I think my head hurts as it was a bit of sensory overload with all the rooms on top of rooms that you cross back by for even more rooms. That must have been one huge challenge to get that all layed out. I'd be curious how you draw out your initial design layout.

Really great and fun level. Loved all the puzzles. ...except when I got lost from not realizing what you meant about which program to upload. I must have been skimming and missed that minor tidbit. For some reason I was over thinking that part and thought I was to do each symbol, one at a time. (Duh!!) In backtracking to find a magic mouth clue, I got so lost I just restarted.. so not a biggie. You warned well, I just thought.. yeah well I can figure it out.... and paid the price.

Great job.. Just blown away at how technically detailed this one is as well as all the goodies and puzzles.

The boss was cool, but took awhile to beat it. Possibly an infinite life portal option would have been nice, but thankfully on my last life I killed the silly thing.

Like noted above by Loius, I didn't really want to kill Dr Cloth like that. Maybe chucking him down a chute towards a tub filled with sharks or something. I could have dealt with that a bit better.

Great level. 5 stars and hearted. ...and will be trying some of your other levels asap.

..and thanks again for the comments on my level!

Put simply, this level was gorgeous from both visual and gameplay standpoints. The fact that the areas overlap and you are constantly backtracking makes great use of the 3 planes. Your attention to detail is astounding. The only complaint that I have was the jet-pack puzzle. I didn't see the stickers the first 2 times I played it, and I thought I was doing something wrong (I put the wrong grabby things in the wrong holes and I didn't realize that you could reset them). I'm glad I got it though, as the level was wonderful. I did not survive the final boss, but the rest of the level was fun. 5 stars and hearted.

I am also wondering if you sketch this stuff out before you start creating? I doodle, but never do any whole level design. For me what I sketch doesn't always translate the way I intend into the game. Thanks for hard work - we all enjoy it.

No sketches?... wow.. impressive, especially considering the interlaced areas.

Good luck with the new level!

I will try it out as well as the rest in this series as soon as I can. Still quite busy on my next creation and really quite excited about it. I tend to get way behind on my playlist that way. ..though I think just about everyone here has that issue!

Just finished the first Siberia level and will be working my way towards your newer chapters. I appreciate a level that takes a good 10-15 minutes to play!2009-06-06 01:44:00
