What was the very first thing you created

Archive: 53 posts

I made this crazy vehicle. It was just a big huge ring with a smaller rocket car hooked inside of it. I just thought It would be interesting to hear what peoples very first creations were.2009-04-28 10:55:00

The first thing I made was a green dragon that had a tail you jumped onto. I remember it was made of dark green wood. I, of course, had no idea about stickering objects to change the color at that point.2009-04-28 12:03:00

A sponge attached to a rope attached to dark matter. I found that brilliant back then.
Then I went on to create my first level through a process of trial and error. I never really had a blank
lvl where I experimented. (I do now however)

+ Off topic: what's the story on that sig Kockle?

I made a level in the beta that I never finished/published so it's gone forever. It was a rotating maze like thing, that you had to navigate while it spun. I ran into some problems with the object being too complicated and gave up.

All's well that ends well though since this experience led to my first real level which was a success(in my opinion). It's the first level in my sig and you can play it to see where my rotating level concept led.

I made a level with a cheetah in it that had a ROCKET!!11!! I got like 1.435.690.234 Plays and even moar hearts!

Seriously. My first level I released is somewhat the first thing I did with LBP. I made some minor side projects but even if I released them first they came after i started working on the full level.

i made a winch that lifted you passed two walls that had spikes attached to pistons. at the top, there was some glass that could make you slide back into the hole.

it may have been my first creation but i didn't use it in my level until the 1/2 way point

The first thing I made was a roller out of sponge attacked to Dark matter with a 60 speed motor bolt. Then I dropped like 7 chunks of metal all around it and watched as I flew through them. back then, I didn't know how to make things span several layers so my stuff looked awful. But i thought travelling through things was so cool. I also made a sponge on a rope attached to a 60 speed motor bolt. I died.

I made a tunnel vehicle, which had springs for shock absorption and could move its wheels along the ceiling and floor, allowing it to go to extreme angles and not fall. Sadly, it was made too heavy, and the springs always broke when it moved quickly. I plan to remake it eventually.2009-04-28 20:20:00

I made a car and some zombies, because I had thought about making a zombie level. After a couple hours of working on it, I scrapped it. That's when I started building a bulldozer, which then turned into my first level, Mulberry Woods.

Edit: Oh wait! I did make a plane before the bulldozer. I was gonna make a plane that flew for a bit and then crashed. I remember completing the plane, but it never looked all that great, so I deleted it and then went on to make my bulldozer. Wow, it's crazy thinking about some of the ways I was trying to build things at first. After working with LBP for a while, you find ways to create much more efficiently.

I made this terrible level called "The attack of the evil king: part 1: the town in flames".

I didn't understand really anything about create mode back then.

I then made this other level which was frustrating and broken at the end and a few minigames that took me about ten minutes each.

Tank with two wheels, a turret and firebutton and a UAV to extend the distance that you could see.

At the time I wasn't amazed by it but my friends were.

Ramp.

Actually, it was very similar to the permanent door from the Mm tut, except you had to use springboards to get the key. It got the glue-glitch, though.

At first sponge rectangle with a full power rocket and a grab switch, then I went on to make an upward sponge rocket. After that I published a level called 'Giant Car' which was just a sackperson-shaped piece of wood with a (giant) magic mouth and one robot eye telling you to take a jet-pack up to the grab switch at the top of the car, there was a giant prize bubble of it and the sponge grab switch was messy (along with the car's body it's self, which was a frame of wood). The wheels were just loose bolts and a big rocket was activated on the back, the scoreboard was put on 3 individual layers of dark matter (didn't know how to change the amount of layers made) at the end that took me ages to get to the right height as the bolts on the wheels were off-center (making the whole car change height) and I didn't know about the grid either. When I published it I was surprised at how quickly the plays and hearts came in, it ended up (after two weeks) at about 70 plays and 25 hearts.2009-04-28 22:13:00

lol, i remember the first thing i created was a rocket, it was just a piece of wood with a rocket i the back and a piece of sponge at the top, copied two times and put it one behind the other to cover all 3 layers, as back then i didn't know how to make stuff thick/thin lol.2009-04-28 22:24:00

I made a dark matter maze with a floaty ring with four rockets on it that you had to navigate around to find 4 spots that would open the exit.

Really basic and boring

I tried to recreate the tank they built in one of the early trailers. Really struggled because I didn`t realise I should have a thin layer to bolt wheels to, or just have the wheels thin.2009-04-28 23:48:00

This was my first creation. From the start I knew I wanted to make a Dragonball level, so I decided to go big and just make this.

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g136/Drabaz/DBZ/LittleBigPlanet/OozaruVegeta.jpg

Back then, I did the noob thing of choosing a certain material only for the color. So for the arms I used dark matter, the hair I used rubber, and so on. I took this picture in create mode, so the mouth on his nose won't be visible when I decide to put him in a level.

My first level was real short, it was just testing after I finished all the tutorials. I only used squares and rectangles, It wasn't that good of a level. After a while of it being published, I decided it sucked and I deleted it.2009-04-29 20:24:00

Seems to me that most peoples first levels are creations that creators would frown upon... like ramps and huge rockets etc.
Maybe the mass of rubbish levels we see today are just the remnants of people who never bothered to go through the tutorials and resorted to giving up on it?
Hmm...

There's nothing wrong with some expirimenting, is there?
I myself also published a level with no scoreboard in it (lol) and only dark matterback in the day when I didn't know it would be labeled as rubbish.

tho the first thing I created was a cannon

Giant attack robot.
Basically, just a metal box with a head and glass eyes you could control from inside the head. It was cool, feel bad for thrashing it.

The First Thing I Ever Made was...
(TFTIEM) was... the 'Young Fred' head from "Yellow Submarine" that starts off my level WaterFalls. Everything in the beginning was over-designed, too many pieces, and way-out of scale thermo-eaters! But, I really liked him so when the level got scrapped... he survived...

(The 'Fred' in WaterFalls was edited to include his goody giving goodness) Always originally planned but didn't have the know-how on day one... I'm more of a idea-creative-entity and not real good w/mechanics)

Remember the E3 video that had a Orange with a face in it?

I made that. Then edited it... and now it's in the first level I ever made.

Back in the beta, the first thing I made was actually a massive level. It began with playing and tinkering with various flying machines that would take you up into space. I had a hot air balloon, tethered stars, and (of course), a rocket.

My proudest creation in this level during the beta was a mountain way off to the right. I essentially gave the player a ton of options for getting up into space. If one way failed, they could try the next way. But each one was a one-shot, one-chance deal, so if you screwed them all up, you had to start over.

My mountain was my proudest creation. Looking back, I still think it was a great design and will probably revisit it in the future. Lot of variety, a couple of secrets, lots of hidden bits and machinery just behind the mountain layer itself. As you ascend toward the peak, you have to navigate these rain clouds, grab onto the rain drops, jump up onto the clouds themselves, walk across a rainbow, and finally reach the peak. Once on the peak, a little flag raises up out of the tip. If you grab the flag, it spontaneously rockets you up into the stratosphere.

I also had a really cool cannon in the bottom right corner in case you overshot the mountain in your car. It would fire you right to the base of the mountain for another shot.

I have a huge map/blueprint I drew out for this level as I planned the remainder of it, but as soon as I started building, I realized that A) my blueprint dimensions were off and I'd have to re-think a lot of it, and B) there was no freaking way the thermometer would be able to handle this plan.

Sadly, this level was never published, and became lost in the "great beta massacre" of 2008.

The first thing I made was....A giant blob of Dark Matter. I then proceeded to put wheels on it. I thought it would move. O.O
I experimented with the tools and explosives.

My first level was LittleBigUnnamed. I thought it was great back then, but looking back, geez. What a waste of time. It consisted of some Basic, Unstickered Wood, 1 million points, a skateboard with a jet, MORE Unstickered basic wood...and thats it. Its deleted now, though.
But I still suck at creating.

Um. This is the first thing that the team of xkappax, Catiers and Vmethos made in littlebigplanet. This level puts Centralia, The Crystal Cave, and The Seal of Silvraen - Shadows of an Ancient Era to shame. Had we published this, we would have immediately been awarded a crown. And a million dollars. Or pounds. Or ... whatever currency they have in littlebigplanet.

First ORIGINAL and actually intelligent creation? A Tesla Coil from Red Alert 2.

First thing in the beta was a level. It wasn't good, but I still have it on my moon. o/

But I made some changes to it just before the beta ended so it's not in its original state anymore.

My second creation is still playable and I only made very few changes since I first published it during the beta. This is how it looked originally. (http://www.eurogamer.de/videos/exklusiv_littlebigplanet_operation-sackeater)

The first thing I did was jump in and start creating a level, which ended up being "Dante's Temple"..... It's still a pretty decent level, but was designed poorly with tons of stuff glued together and would collapse a lot while I was working on it. But the process taught me what NOT to do on my other levels.2009-05-07 14:22:00

HENRY "THE ROFLER" BOJANGLES!

Created this guy at my friend's house a few months before I even got a Playstation 3. Once I got my LBP, I had my friend send him over to me. If anyone's seen my ROFLQuest levels, he's the guy at the beginning and end of the new Ch. 1.

OK, so my 'underpant cannon' was basically an emitter, which emitted a block of wood, cut into the shape of the underpants sticker. The first 'useful' thing I made was a fire extinguisher, which made a burning piece of dissolve material disappear. That level glitched on me, though.2009-05-12 19:01:00
