Stakker Westworld 2

Archive: 27 posts

Hi all,

my new level is up and i'm really curious to hear what you guys think of it
Name: Stakker Westworld 2
PSN: Mother-Misty.

some info:
This level is for fans of old-skool platform fun, i've tried to give it his own unique look and concentrated mainly on game play and fun, fun and fun!
(ohh... and lightning effects :-))

Because some pics say more then 1000 words and i'm pretty bad at selling my own stuff here are some pictures

If you have some time, give it a spin, would love to hear some feedback

cheers,
misty.

Your pictures were pretty persuasive and I liked the sound of this, so I went and played your level (just back now )

Pros:
+Seemless platforming
+The badge is actually very attractive itself
+The levellooks and good as it plays - very!
+Fun to play
+Really captured the feeling of retro!

Cons:
-A little difficult in places
-Slight polish needed (some corners are sticking up).

Overall though a very stunnig level to play and to look at! 5 stars and hearted

OK..let me try this again.

I just typed out a whole review and hit the wrong button and "goodbye' (****)

1st impression: Colorful!

The Good:
Love the colors and retro look.
I thought you had some cool platform elements.
Layout was nice with alot of different areas.
Some tricky elements as well (can be both good and bad).

The Bad (if you can call it that):
I died twice...but not because of some good hazards I thought for this to be old school we need more chances for death.

**Toward the end you have a short stack of layers moving back and forth and you have to time your jumps just right to get over them. This was cool but could be frustrating for some. I did feel a sense of accomplishment once I'd made it, but almost gave up (see below for reason)**

So I felt...that it needed some sort of story element (not alot but something to give purpose to what I was doing...I like to have a reason for getting from A to B...but thats just me. It also needed more chances of death)

Otherwise...I rated it 4 stars and gave it a Beautiful tag.

Feel free to play either of my levels (which both have a thread here) or wait for the release of my newest *Attack of the BORG, Part 3* If you do please read my level description in the thread first

This looks great, a similar style to Tye Dye!. If I get a chance to ever go on my PS3 (grrr), I'll give it a go.2009-04-28 19:02:00

This level was very cool! I loved the minimalist style. It was simple, but extremely well done. Like Dawes said, it's a similar style to Tye Dye, a level that stimulates you visually and allows you to just play around. I really enjoyed it!

Highlights:
+ Great visual style, looked clean and colorful
+ Fun creative platforming
+ Lots of points hidden throughout the level

Suggestions:
- There was one place in particular that I found very frustrating. It's the horizontal platforms that are immediately after the glass slide. I found it a tad difficult to make it up and over the green platform.
- The fire section appeared a bit out of place from the rest of the level, but this is just a tiny nit pick.

Great level!

I like the look of it and the general design is good.

- The music is a poor choice. It`s very quiet and downbeat and doesn`t suit the colour at all. This was probably the biggets fault for me. The song in Spanish from the wedding would`ve been more appropriate.
- There is very little threat. For most of the level I'm just wandering along picking up loads of point bubbles.
- You do something throughout the level which annoyed me. You aimed the camera so it was almost looking over the shoulder of the player. Now that`s fine in that it shows what`s ahead, but it also makes it hard, if not impossible to tell where you are exactly. The first 'wave machine' obstacle killed me 3 times (my only 3 deaths) because I kept falling inbetween the gaps as I couldn`t tell where they were in relation to sackboy.
- Your last wave machine has a load of visible switches down the bottom.
- the scoreboard could do with decorating

Played it last night and it's beautiful! Love the lighting Love the flat style. It's like a crayola box exploded in there! Some very cool motion and platform stuff going on too.

I agree - the music is a little mellow but I found it pretty relaxing in general so it may not be that bad a fit. I'd be interested to see how the music affects how I play the level though. Less laid back and more active?

I also agree with Matt82 - after such a lovely level the scoreboard is a bit bland.

I gave it 5 stars and hearted it as is but I think you have a few things that were mentioned above that if you adjusted - would still make this a 5 star level for me.

Thanks for sharing it!

Ah, I knew there was something I was forgetting to say and it was about the scoreboard. I agree, it could use some decorations or some crazy wave platform going on around it.

As for the music, I actually liked it, but I tend to prefer the mellow tracks.

useful feedback guys, thanks!

You're not the only one who has told me this, already changed it but didn't put it online yet.

The fire section appeared a bit out of place from the rest of the level, but this is just a tiny nit pick.
It's a bit out of place indeed, it's the only place where i've used fire in the level, will try to see if i can come up with something else...

I will have a look at the scoreboard, music and some other things you guys mentioned and hopefully i can put the final version online soon.

thanks for the feedback
(oh, ajnknox, played your borg level but didn't had time to write someting down about that...)

Played Stakker Westworld 2 yesterday (ended up get 3rd in overall points - somewhere around 57k). I thought I picked up virtually all of the points, so I'm not certain how to get up to your score of ~ 62k. Maybe it has something to do with the path taken to maximize the multiplier.

Anyways, I really enjoyed your level. Straight-forward platforming with some neat ideas that I haven't seen used elsewhere. I believe this is a case of less is more and I feel compelled to return for more play-throughs to improve my score.

After playing Jaeyden's Tye-Dye level, where he used the new tool-set to amp up lighting and colorization, I wonder if Stakker would benefit from a retro-fit utilizing the expanded features of the new tool-set. If you haven't had a chance, go play Tye-Dye to see what I mean.

Thanks for sharing your creation. It is level creators like you that keep the LBP online community coming back for more. Great job!

great feedback guys, really!
Did some changes...

the music is a little mellow
Fixed, replaced it with another more uptempo, funny tune.
The music was indeed wrong for this kind of level, I realize that now...

There was one place in particular that I found very frustrating. It's the horizontal platforms that are immediately after the glass slide. I found it a tad difficult to make it up and over the green platform.
Fixed, made them move a lot slower, should be not that hard to get over now...

Done

That's a great idea
I've heard that comment about tye-dye before (never played the level) did it this afternoon, looks really cool but didn't have time to finish it, i will certainly experiment with that i hope it doens't take too much from my thermometer because i'm already at 90% :-(

I saw you on the scoreboard, but on the scoreboad from Stakker Westworld 1, not 2. I think you've played the wrong level Badgerfan89 but really nice to hear you've enjoyed Stakker Westworld 1 and thanks for the kind words

I'll be certain to check out Stakker Westworld 2 and provide some feedback. If it is anything like Westworld 1, I'm sure I'll love it.2009-04-29 18:33:00

I checked this out today, and I loved it! Your level design is great. The art style is awesome, and the lighting is great also. The simple graphics are complimented well by the complex level design and lighting. I had a blast playing through this. I wasn't going for score as I was just enjoying myself playing through. I'll definitely be back to try for a higher score. Great work!!!

My f4f levels right now are (fully automated machine) and (teleport to ?????).

Played Stakker 2 last night (currently 2nd on the leaderboard with ~ 49k). Definitely enjoyed the level, even more so than Stakker 1. I do have a few points of feedback, which are as follows:

1. I'm just not feeling the music. It doesn't seem to fit. What was used in Stakker 1 (I don't recall having the same feelings about Stakker 1's soundtrack).

2. I know someone else has made mention of it and I concur, the fire section seems out of place and doesn't have the same feel as the remainder of the level. Also, what's the purpose of that section? I thought crossing the platforms would yeild some big payoff, yet there was none to be found. Did I miss something? On my first play-through, I ended up dieing in that section, thinking I was going to maximize my points. Maybe there is a different way to could handle that section and make it worth players time to cross over and explore (unless that already exists and I missed it).

Overall, I did really enjoy your level and WILL return for more play-throughs to improve my score. Not sure if/how I'll be able to get up to your ~ 62k though.

Thanks for sharing your creation with the online LBP community. It is certainly appreciated and I look forward to seeing what you have in store for the future.

Cool level , I played it with a friend a few days ago. Didn't realize you had made a post here for it. The level looked great, and had just enough challenge in it to keep me interested. Good job.

I loved this level. It was totally up my alley with the colors and lights. I loved the way you used soft shapes, big point bubbles and tons of moving platforms. CY must have been a god send when you got to turn all your pistons invisible eh? I had a blast romping through there and exploring for points and prizes. I liked how you created multiple paths to explore all the while heading to the same common goal. 5 star and heart. Curious if you considered adding a race option, this level has a lot of great obstacles that would create a fantastic race. I wouldn't make it mandatory though because just exploring and grabbing points leisurely is a blast too.2009-05-11 23:39:00

Hey Mother Misty,

I just played your level aswell as the first one,and they were sort of similar so sorry if i say something about your first one:blush: I love the abstract design to it! It had some really need platforming, my favorite part was where you drop down into a hole with colorful waves on each side, and you take a floaty circle out. I also like how you had lots of options on where you want to go on your way to the finish, but this was a minor problem for me. While wondering around, there was one place in particular i was really confused where to go. Another thing, i agree with AJnknox, i like it when i know why im going from point A to point B. Other than that, i think you made a unique fun level, nice job! Rated 4 and beautiful.

Oh thanks man, that really means alot to me coming from you!

One of the things i've been experimenting with lately is a race level based on obstacles from Stakker Westworld 1 & 2, so yes, i'm certainly considering it.
I just don't want to put a level out there with some wave-obstacles,
it has to be a bit more then that :-)

I finally got a chance to play this last night, and I'm really impressed. I wish I had a chance to go back and comment in the spotlight (there were just SOOO many levels and yours was already in the list, so I wanted to work through ones that may be missed).

I loved the visual style to this level - incredibly colorful, and some great original gameplay elements.

The only thing I kind of thought seemed out of place was the checkpoints. It looked like they needed brightly colored stickers on them to fit with the background.

Fantastic job - 5 stars and a heart. Loved it.

Yeah, you're right, they defenatly could use some color! (...and i love customized checkpoints )
The thermo is around 95% but i think i can squeeze some stickers in.

Thanks for the tip ccubage, glad to hear you've enjoyed the level.

My Feedback:

Just played this now, and i think this level looks really cute. i had fun with this level, and that i felt like eating ice candy for some reason! YUM!

There wasnt really any story to it just simple and basic platforming. But the main objective was to grab as many points as you can.

And Somehow this level is sort of a mulit-path, i may have skipped maybe 1 or 2 parts in this one, and i tried going back but i only died in the process causing me some precious points. 1 in particular was the swinging towers with the red gas in the bottom.

Ill probably have to replay it to get a better score.

Overall:

4 stars Cute and hearted

Id appreciate some feedback on my level:

The Count Of St Claire: Prologue

Thanks!

There weren't enough point boubles

I kid, I kid!

This was hilariously fun. There are a couple of spots where the points were glued to the backdrop, but that was only a problem after the second shifty tower.

5-starred!

My first issue is just a personal one, really, I don't like the song at all, plus as someone else mentioned you could do with something a little more upbeat, to complement the colour of the level.
The lack of danger and enemies is a touch boring, really, kind of like the music, it just needs livening up slightly.

Other than that, it's a very attractive level, with lots of bright colour, and I often have a little difficulty brightening my levels up, but you've done a really good job.
I also liked a couple of the secret areas, although half the time i stumbled across these simply because I had no idea where else to go to get through the level.
The motion of the wave-platforms is also very slick, so credit where it's due, I gave it 4 stars and a beautiful tag. If you only change one thing, make sure its the music, because that song is SUCH a drag, not sure about others, but it makes me feel lethargic just listening to it. Possibly use volver a comenzar, or get it together.
