4 abandon kittens Im taking care of :(

Archive: 20 posts

So as the title says I have 4 kittens only 3 weeks old that I have to nurse and keep alive till hopefully we can get them to a shelter in the morning.

History:
This all started about 3 weeks ago when one of the random strays that are outside gave birth to 6 kittens 2 of which died somehow, now that's not to strange because ever since about 6 years ago when a cat gave birth to kittens outside my mom decided that they need to be taken care of so we have been putting food out for them and fixing any we can get our hands on. The problem is that fixing them cost about $250 each and the females need to stay over a night before we can release them back outside.

Flash forward to tonight when for whatever reason the mommy cat hasn't been around all day. By the end of the day this made the kittens so hungry that they were falling out of the little house that we put out there for them and crying as loud as they can, which made us worried because anything would love to eat a kitten especially ones so small. So after many conversations with vets that said they couldn't take them and messages for shelters; we have them inside and successfully feed them with what the vet told us to feed them. My job tonight is now to watch after them all night in the living room making sure they are warm safe not hungry and trying to keep them quite so they don't wake up my parents that need to work in the am.

So if anyone has any tips that would be great, because i will need help trying to stay awake and not crazy with these kittens all crying at the same time all wanting food.

Oh man I think one just went poo because it smells so bad PLEASE HELP!!!!

I don't have any suggestions but wanted to say how nice of you to do this for them and I'd probably do the same. Good luck and you're doing an amazingly kind and wonderful thing tonight!2009-04-27 05:20:00

Whoa! Kittens! Cool! To stop them from crying all the time, there's not much you can do, they're crying for their mummy But it will help sooth them if you can keep them warm, and keep them huddled together. DO as much as you think the mommy kitten would do. Also, yes, don't ever give them milk! :eek:2009-04-27 10:45:00

Sorry for the horrible witting I am very tired because of these guys

Thanks for the encouraging words they were very good throughout the night making little to no noise I think I even got a little sleep...

I just feed them all and now (its the morning now) there crying again and I cant do much to make them stop I have them together and its warm I hope their bellies are full and that there not hurting each other in the box (I keep the top a little closed to keep it a little dark and to keep warmth in since the AC is on in the house.

I really hope that today we can get them to a shelter that has much more experience with kittens than me. It is hard to wait for them to open in 3-4 hours...I really wish they would go back to sleep so that i could get some as well. Still do not know what happen to their mommy seems like maybe she got hurt or shes trapped someplace, I cant believe she would just abandon them after only 3 weeks.

I could really use that right about now...they have been crying ever since I fed them 2.5 hours ago...oh wait a quite moment.....nope just taking a breath. I guess I can only hope they use up so much energy they fall back asleep, waiting an hour longer before I can call places to see if they take them...fingers crossed. This whole thing makes me realize that I am in no way ready to ever take care of a baby anything. My head is starting to hurt now from the constant noise and no sleep......

It is unfortunate that there are so many unwanted pets in the world. Millions are killed yearly due to the lack of wanting owners, and the surplus of puppies/kittens/etc.

I think it should be a law that you can't breed life if you aren't willing to care for it. Sending a puppy to the pound that you allowed to be born by not neutering/spaying your dogs is killing in its worst form.

My dog is from the pound, that's what I've done to be a good person - let one life be meaningful compared to the alternative it has.

Good luck!

Echonian well said and I agree totally.

On a good note we brought the kittens to a local shelter, one that we got my recently past cat from. Even though they are technically closed today we explained that we are not just going to drop the cats off and run we just wanted to know if they could help us out. We told them about how we got one of the best cats we have ever had from them years ago and that we want to sponsoring these kittens so that we can help with the costs of them. So after she called the president of the shelter because she was all alone at the place today and needed to ask because they have a limit of 180 cats at the place and they currently have 174 so our 4 kittens would bring the total very close to the max. After the conversation with her on the phone telling her that we will help with the cost and that we had adopted a cat from them in the past she allowed it. After the paper work we also added a check for $150 which hurt at the time because we don't have that much to give but felt like the right thing to do.

So in the end for the kittens I think it ended for the best. I do feel bad because we still haven't seen the mommy cat which makes me think that she might be dead but at least her kittens are safe and maybe getting a loving home soon.

Today was one of those days that made me feel good about people because of the help that this place was willing to give us even though they were closed and we just walked in on them.

Thanks again everyone for the support and a place to vent my thoughts. I encourage anyone that wants a pet to always look at local shelters or there SPCA's (may only be in the US) so that we can help the pets in need, and please please fix your animals so that they do not accidentally breed and cause strays.

Thanks LBPC!!!!!!

You handled that one well, OW. You did a really good job I remember having a stray cat wandering around my old house (I was around 4 at the time), and it did leave a few poos around. My current cat is actually from a shelter, but was not abandoned, but left there due to its owner moving near a motorway and not wanting the cat near the noise. Anywho, very well handled, and it was really kind of you to leave ?100 for them!2009-04-27 20:02:00

I have no idea what the origins of my dog are. I just love her, that's the simple truth.

She was 8 months old when I got her, and just about to be euthanized...days away from it. She never listens to my commands, but can be intelligent at times! For a dog. She's usually very well behaved, yet outdoors she will suddenly get a huge burst of energy.

Glad to see something good is happening.

Kudos to you friend. Your donation, your care, its inspiring to say the least.

Don't feel bad your babies wouldnt stop crying, they miss their mommy Did you give them plenty of cuddle time?

I've cared for 2 litters of kittens, a litter of 8 siamese (planned), and a litter of 4 mutts (accident). Kittens will cry almost always immedietly after being seperated from mommy until they open their eyes/ears.

This was a good read during work. It's always nice to know that compassion isn't dead in the world.

Wow. Your username fits your problem right now :O

Me and my family also take care of 3 abandoned/stray kitties. First we got two of them, and raised them well. (but one ran away a week later ) and our other cat "Kitty" is now a year old. A year later we find 2 abandoned kitties, and also take care of them. They're so cute and leetle, but so freakin' whiny. They're meows are so loud and annoying, they're always hungry and thirsty. But they're still our leetle kitties
