CY = Termometer saver!
Archive: 16 posts
Yes yes, i know that CY brought the rare and terrible "auto-fill glitch" which kills your termometre in a couple of minutes. But it also brings a way to save termo space!. Well, thanks to the new visibility option rods one can just attach something to the ground with a rod rod, and attach stuff to it with rods as well! This way, you don't really have to glue stuff, which you know increaces the "complexity" of the shape, nor do you have to put blocks of dark matter to hold your level together. As you know, rods take little to no space in the termo, so using these to hold stuff together really helps lower the termo. Of course you don't have to attach everything with them, but it's still pretty usefull. Just remember to make them invisible and set them as stiff, or your level might indeed crumble. But it indeed has saved me quite some space in my levels. | 2009-04-26 23:37:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
But indeed they could break...In rare cases I mean... | 2009-04-26 23:56:00 Author: SawronZXZ Posts: 463 |
Not unless you put the weight on them... For floating large objects i believe its better to put a rod from above (or 2 ) For ground ovjects just put a rod from the side or the ground to its side. For smallish objects on top of large objects just connect the 2 with a rod (of course the large object should be anchored already to something else). | 2009-04-27 00:00:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
Yes, but you did say attach the rod to the ground. | 2009-04-27 00:01:00 Author: SawronZXZ Posts: 463 |
Yes, but you did say attach the rod to the ground. Ground as in bottom/left/right/top borders of the level... | 2009-04-27 00:02:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
Thanks for the tip silverleon, rods are hugely underrated! | 2009-04-27 00:28:00 Author: Pitcard Posts: 779 |
Yeah, this is good but the auto-fill glitch is worse than the invisible rods are better... | 2009-04-27 01:42:00 Author: Unknown User |
That could work, good thinking. I mostly just glue each individual piece of my level to a smidge of dark matter, so everything's floating snugly together but not really glued. | 2009-04-27 01:47:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |
Ok, this is the first I have heard of the auto-fill glitch... What is it, and how do you avoid it? | 2009-04-27 17:06:00 Author: dobi6 Posts: 359 |
It is an impossible to prevent cataclysmophic event, wherein your thermometer continues to rise...even in the Rift there is no meaning for this... (Catastrophic+Cataclysmic=Cataclysmophic) | 2009-04-27 23:54:00 Author: SawronZXZ Posts: 463 |
In other words, it means in a complicated level the thermometer rises for no reason, even if you aren't doing anything. I actually never had this glitch before... | 2009-04-28 00:01:00 Author: crazymario Posts: 657 |
Yeah, seems to only affect levels before CY. I'm forced to copy one of my unfinished levels as a whole object and pasting it in another level (which actually worked ) And my finished, level which still needed tweaking i had to break apart and now putting it together (which sucks...) But lets not deviate from the subject, i already made a thread about the aoto-fill glitch, so this stuff should be discussed there. | 2009-04-28 01:52:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |

Thanks for the advice.. It's a neat little trick. | 2009-04-28 07:19:00 Author: CreateNPlay Posts: 1266 |

I thought I had the thermometer fill glitch while I was making a survival challenge. Turns out I had forgotten to delete a bunch of penguins that an emitter had shot out before I put in a gas wall... There was a stack of about 15 penguins hanging out just outside the screen, doing nothing but filling up my thermo. T_T Just an amusing story... Anyways, I also agree that the visibility tweak is very useful for saving thermometer space. | 2009-05-01 04:38:00 Author: DJLols Posts: 217 |
