Zephyr Valley (Spotlighted - Pictures & Video)

Archive: 108 posts

I've just published my third level entitled Zephyr Valley. Inspired by the recent Prince of Persia, I decided to make a level with platforms suspended in the air by giant balloons where the player must navigate from one to the other. I feel that this level is more difficult than my other levels, but nothing too frustrating... I hope. Please let me know of any areas you have difficulty or areas where it was unclear what to do next. I will try to do as many F4F requests as possible.

Also, for some reason, my level is giving the fail to load error on the first attempt to play it, but it seems to work on the second attempt. Let me know if you receive this error and if you are able to play the level at all. If anyone knows how I can fix this error, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

UPDATE: I believe the error message has been solved. If you continue to encounter it, please let me know.

Level Information:

PSN ID: mrsupercomputer
Level Name: Zephyr Valley
Description:Local villagers are constructing a massive windmill that will provide power to all of Zephyr Valley! Alas, sky pirates in the area want the windmill for themselves and are willing to do whatever it takes to get it! Can you stop the pirate takeover?

Wow! I saw this as a future project in your sig, and, having played your previous levels, decided it'd be a good idea to play this on release. I will give it a go when I'm next on and not having internet issues (I love the characters you've made and the charisma there is in the pictures )2009-04-26 23:00:00

My apologizes to anyone who played the level immediately after I published. There is a boss in the level and he's kind of complex and I somehow managed to screw it up right before I published, making him unbeatable. I believe I have fix the problem though and you should be able to take him out now.... assuming something else doesn't break on him!2009-04-26 23:10:00

Oh my god I just saw the waterfall in the photo. If it looks half as good in-game, I will be amazed! How is it made?2009-04-26 23:15:00

The waterfall probably looks better in the picture than in game, because it's pretty simple (I think I just took the picture it was at a nice angle!). I used two different methods that I have seen used in levels. The top part is a piece of glass on a piston that is moving back and forth very quickly to give the appearance of moving water, then I just made the middle layer a single piece of glass, then the thin layer in front uses an emitter to emit a little squiggly line of glass over top make the waterfall look like it is flowing over the side.2009-04-26 23:20:00

Haha, I versed that boss for five minutes, shooting him numerous times, it's a good thing you joined, or I would NEVER had stopped.

Everything about that level was amazing! The artistic look, the boss, the platforming, everything!

When you spawn, you instantly see the detail you put into it, and I love your style, which may sound normal but always makes your levels stand out, and that's your use of materials, you also stick to several great materials, and don't really change them, aside from adding several stickers to make them look real, and I LOVE it! This was probably your best level so far! The waterfall at the beginning was amazing and beautiful, and looked so real! Then came the chubby guy, who looked like someone from Mesopotamia, which was really neat. He also looked very realistic and detailed. (Lol, it was funny when you were there, and I went underneath him )

The platforming was great and had some really cool elements. It was really fun and great when you go across the little platform, and have to shoot the incoming missiles. (Which were really cool by the way!) The boss, after it was fixed, was amazing and detailed, and was just like a real games boss, were you attack him, then he has several attacks. The helmet coming off thing was cool, and fun to shoot him in the face. I almost forgot to add that I loved those little balloons in the distance, they looked like they were actually far off!

There were only two things that you might want to change; The button that you press, then run over to the now raised platforms, should be held up for longer, about 1 second. I got pretty good at it, but one second should make it better, and easier. Also, the missiles look a bit plain, this isn't that big of a deal, as there are a lot of missiles in your level, but if you do, maybe add a sticker to make them not look like MGS missiles, as this level looks old. Nevermind, I just noticed that everything is old aside from the pirates, and the missiles belong to the pirates. Ok, thats find then!

An amazingly epic level, and definitely worth 5 stars, and a heart, also, I will definitely record your level sometime. Hopefully later today, as I am just getting everything together!

As for F4F, I don't really need any of my levels feedbacked, so if you just read my story 'The Unknown' that would be great, but you don't have to. :C

Yeah, sorry about that! I seem to have everything working just fine before publishing and then I manage to screw up a major part of the level, making it impossible to beat! Figures!

It's funny, I had the timed platforms set for a second longer until about 5 minutes before publishing it when I reduced it by one second. I'll consider putting it back. As for the missiles, I was originally going to place stickers on them, but it the sticker only colored the tip of the missile which I wasn't happy with so I just left it alone. I still might change them in the future though.

Thanks again for putting up with me as I figured out the boss! Thanks for volunteering to record the level too!

This level is beautiful. Just the detail on everything is amazing, the machines, the characters, the ballons and did you even add something to the plasma balls? I actually died a couple of times because I was too busy looking at the scenery!

minor critisisms:

The glass on the slopes caught me by suprise, would have been nice if I could see it, but as it was consistant throught out the level I think it was ok.
It's a shame you can't make the baloons dissapear when the bombs go off, but that's not really down to you!
The section where you have to press the button to get the platforms was a little cryptic, it would have helped the flow if you put a cutscene to show something happened, or move the timer sound source slightly closer so I could hear it through the right speaker
The one time I died on the boss, I got killed on respawn, I really hate that.

Those are all pretty minor, but I had a bit of an issue with the boss. I defeated it, but I don't really know how. I worked out that hitting his rocket pack brought him down to ground, but pummelling his back seemed to do nothing. Tried shooting him on the ground in his legs face etc, nothing seemed to make the paintenator sound. Eventually he just dies and I don't know how. It took a long time, I didn't know if I was really doing any damage, and with only two ineffective attack patterns, I found it tedious. Sorry, that sounds like I'm really slating it and I'm not. It's just the lack of feedback as to how well I was doing. On the plus side, the animation on the boss was sweet as well.

I've given it 4* and a heart.

Thanks for the feedback! Yes I did add decoration to the plasma balls, just because I wanted it to look a little bit different than your standard plasma.

All good criticisms and a lot of that is stuff that I even thought about myself while playing, especially the the section with the button. I think you are correct that a cutscene of some sort is in order, so I will work to add that.

The boss battle was pretty hard to figure out a way to show the player that they were doing damage because of the way the fight is handled. Essentially, I have two versions of the boss, one that flies left and one that flies right. I needed to make it so that the hits a player lands on one, count on the other, if that makes sense. Because of that, I had to rig another paintinator switch off screen that is getting shot with emitted paint balls every time you shoot the boss in the face. This made it hard to hear the paint switch count down, so I added a little "Ugh" sound when you shoot him in the face. I'll try to work out a better system of telling the player how much damage they have done, I even though about a life meter at one point, maybe I'll bring that back.

Thanks for your wonderful feedback, I appreciate it!

EDIT: Just want to add that I have added a cutscene with the timed platform and I have also added a cutscene that occurs when you shoot the boss down for the first time from each direction. Hopefully, it will help the players understand that they must shoot him in the face to do damage.

- 10 seconds in and I think I may be in love with this level.
- That first windmill is gorgeous.
- The part where you have to press the button to rise the platforms is not so well implemented. I only hit the buttin when I jumped by accident (I was taking a pic and pressed 'x' instead of square). Outwith that I'm not sure I would even have seen it let alone worked out what I was supposed to do.
- The balloons in the distant background were a nice touch.
- I threw myself off the edge of the boss platform to see if you`d covered that angle (well done ), but when I respawned I died instantly as a bomb landed on the checkpoint. Maybe some sort of cover to prevent cheap deaths?
- The boss. I really didn`t know what I was supposed to do. Often I`d hit him and he`d lower himself down, but i was behind him by that point and any attempt to get under him would end in me getting squashed. There were other times where I thought I was hitting him in the face but nothing was happening. I`m afraid you`ll have to tell me what I`m meant to be doing before I can finish that because as it is, I`m clueless :/.

Right now, shooting the boss in the face 25 times will finish him off. I thought that would be a good number as I could usually shoot him about 5-10 times each time he landed. Maybe I will lower the number a bit, since it will take some people time to figure out what to do.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, this is very helpful as this boss was very difficult to build, but I'd like him to be as good as possible!

Could I perhaps suggest that you have a flashing light turn on, on his back while he is flying and then another on his head to start to flash when he lands to aid the player a bit.2009-04-27 02:25:00

Matt, If you shoot his jetpack or his body, he'll land. I believe it's five shots to trigger that. Unfortunately, there are times where he won't drop, because he has already started to ascend.

Trevor, I've thought about the light idea, but I wanted to see if the cutscene I added helped a bit. Were those in when you played? If I still get complaints, then I will definitely add some more visual clues, or magic mouths with clues.

I've already made some changes based both of your feedback. One concerns the button with the timed platforms. I removed the sticker from the button, so it's back to it's red color and is a little more noticeable. I've also reduced the amount of paint need to finish off the boss and added a louder sound effect when he is shot in the face. Hopefully that helps. Thanks again guys.

Just played it and it's fantastic! So much subtlety and detail - great artistic style and amazing character design. Fun platforming that never made me feel cheated or cheap. I.... just don't have enough words for how impressed I am with this level!

5 stars - hearted - I can't even write more.... it's just so beautiful and fun! THANK YOU for sharing it!

(btw - I kept getting failed to load errors on it for about 10 minutes, then it worked just fine - just an FYI, not sure if it was just my system or if it's happening to more users)

I played it along with morgana, and shere her opinion completly, it was amazingly detailed and well made, the waterfall was cool, and that windmill incredible!
And the boss, probably th best detailed and the one that moves the most that i've see.

I did have the level fail to load, and then work the second time I tried.

But anyway, much like your other levels this one is great. What I loved about your other levels was the cohesive look/feel that they had, and this one follows suit. I love the floating island theme for this level and all of the custom enemies and areas look great. As everyone has been saying, the windmills are impressive. Also nice to see a little timed platform section here, I have one in the level I am working on now as well.

- Really loved the boss too. Seemed like a legit boss from some other game since you had to knock him down to get to his weakness and repeat. Much like you do in so many other games and that made me really like him more than most other bosses I have faced in LBP.

5 stars and hearted, just like all of your levels so far have received from me. Keep up the great work!

Awesome, awesome, and more awesome!

You're sooo incredibly creative. Each time I play another one of your levels, it's filled with those "I wish I had thought of that" moments, such as how you built your balloons.

Very cool stuff. I also don't know what you would do about it, but I had the "failed to load" message once, but then it worked. If Morgana can consistently reproduce the issue, maybe you could work with a locked copy of the level and remove certain elements to see if it went away (such as your ball in the balloon). Of course, if it's a decent size file it could be simply the MM servers timing out on a large level load.

I'd be willing to try it - It did eventually load for me but not on the 2nd try. I tried 7 or 8 times to try to load it, and got the same message. Said ok - I'll play another level then try again (Basilisk Bog btw.) Then popped back over and it fired right up. Let me know if you want to try what CCubbage is suggesting.2009-04-27 05:25:00

Honestly, I never thought you could top your other two levels...And somehow you did just that.

The amount of detail is just incredible and you've done something that I've never really seen pulled off in LBP: You've made a level that felt real. I don't really know exactly how to describe it, but as I was playing I just felt more engulfed in zephyr valley than I ever have in any level.

Amazing job, nothing to critique, seriously. I just hope the failed to load glitch goes away. It's really a shame for it to happen to this level.

I. HATE. YOU.

Seriously! My favourite creator publishes his level WHILE I'M AT SCHOOL. Then, he DOESN'T PM ME about the level, leaving me to miss out on playing it in the afternoon, as I can't use the computer. Finally, he makes another ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT level, and shows off!?! SCREW YOU![/sarcasm]

Going to play this now.

Will post if I have any problems, but otherwise count another 5* and a heart!

EDIT: Have you tried saving the level to another part of your moon? I've heard that fixes it.

EDIT2:

Okay, Feedback.

I know you are having problems with loading. It took me about 10 tries, but I finally got in. I love the waterfall, simple, but it fits in with your style. Not quite as good as Shifty_Geezers but it is very nice. The first guy looks brilliant. You and Morgana25 seem to be awesome at creating characters. This seems to be your forte. The level is brilliant. Not flashy, but nice. (My favourite style in LBP would be yours or Shifty_Geezers, because it is so simple and clean). The platforming is brilliant. I love your windmills. They look stunning, and are the only ones I've seen where I've thought the sheet part was premade until I inspected it further. The material choice is brilliant. You seem to love that mossy/wood one lol! The platforming was fun throughout the level. The boss character was brilliant. The only problem was it was a bit tedius, the music was a bit boring, the gun blocked his head, and he spent to much time dropping bombs on me! Also, spelling errors. The first guy, one of his sentances had a lower case letter at the start of the sentence. The same guy had another lower case error at the end of the level.

5* and hearted!

I guessed this was what was going on. I don't know how the implementation is but might it be possible to hide the overall paint switch on screen, i.e in the ground behind a thin layer, so that it was louder? I'll check out the cutscene and see how it works later.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone, as I said, it's been very helpful. I'll be sure to work my way through for F4F soon, I was distracted yesterday with trying to fix issues in the level.

It's strange, I will always get the message when I first start up LBP, but on the second try it always works. I wonder if it could be the file size as I feel I have a lot of complex shapes and some are pretty close together, specifically toward the end of the level. I thought that I'd heard that emitters were the culprit of the "failed to load" errors, but I tried removing all my emitters and it didn't seem to work for me...unless there is a rogue emitter I forgot about. Anyway, I'm actually in the process of copying the entire level in pieces to another area on my moon. I hope that works.

I had actually played to PM you about it after I published, but when I saw that the boss was screwed up, I frantically tried to fix it and forgot! My apologies!

Yep, I've tried that multiple times, but I'll keep trying, the error is driving me crazy!

Thanks for the heads up on the spelling errors. I went back and proofread a couple of times, but I also changed the dialogue a bit before publishing, so I forgot all about proofreading.

Also, thanks for the feedback on the boss. I'll continually tweak him to try and make him perform better.

Thanks again for all the feedback and help on the "level failed to load" errors. It's much appreciated!

UPDATE: Well, this is interesting. This morning, I copied the level to another portion of the moon and removed everything. It was a blank slate. I turn off my Ps3, restart, try to load the empty level and "Failed to Load Level" pops up. It's got to be something with that create space I guess. I think my only option might be copying it section, by section to a new space on the moon. I've already done a little bit of that, but it's glitchy and some portions come unglued and I have to line up giant sections of the levels, which is quite difficult. I think it's worth it to get rid of the error message though.

Oh wow. I saw this last night but couldn't get the PS3.....I dreamt about sky pirates in their finest, but never did I think that something this amazing would happen. Solid platforimng and a quirky story combine to make such a brilliant level - you'd be crazy to miss!

Pros:
+The detail of it all is fantastic
+Character design is great
+The sky pirates have a great design, but also the way their jetpacks are moving and look like they are operating blew my mind!
+ Great use of materials and decoration and sticker and everything else!
+The prizes are great
+Had pretty much everything you could want......
+....and more!
+One of the best boss fights I've ever played
+Just all round solid and fun platforming

Cons:
-I didn't notice anything wrong with it....which is a con in itself!

Overall I 5 starred it and hearted because it is phenominal!
Great work Mrsupercomputer, bravo!

Played again, and the boss is much better. Though the first time he said not my face, he was actually departing, which could be misleading but I think that was just really unfortunate timing. Gave it 5* this time, definately deserves it.2009-04-27 20:00:00

That's funny, I just ran into that issue like five minutes ago, I think I know a way to prevent it from happening. Glad to here that you thought it worked better with the cutscenes.

I can't really add anything the others haven't already told you but..

THIS WAS AMAZING!! Easily in my top 5 of alltime-favourites.

So much detail, so original, so much fun to play.
I almost forget It's Little Big Planet whenever I play one of your levels.

I always love it when creators use fake perspective in levels (and if it works, off course)
Great use of stickers, great use of materials and an amazing bossfight to top it off.

I can't think of any cons for this level!!
Early congratulations on your soon to follow community spotlight!!

Well done, Mrsupercomputer!!

This level was amazing! Anyways I'll list the pros and cons:

+ The visuals, the visuals almost made me think I wasn't playing LBP anymore.
+ As with your other levels, the character design was great!
+ The sky pirate enemies were simple yet fun to fight.
+ The windmill part at the beginning was really detailed and well designed.
+ Just a great idea all together, I love sky islands!
+ The boss fight was epic! One of the best I've played in LBP.
+ That jetpack part at the end was very fun.
+ And I could just go on and on...

Just some very minor complaints:
- The button at the windmill part that activates the platforms was a bit hard to notice.
- Once you press the button, I think the timer is too short for the platforms.

Overall 5 stars and a heart. One of the best levels I've played in LBP!

Well, I think I finally managed to get rid of the error message. I copied the level in sections over to a new spot on my moon and then reassembled it. The funny and ironic thing is, that as soon as I finished putting it back together and started putting the finishing touches on it, I found the issue that was causing the load error, at least I think.

I believe it was one of my objects that I gave away once you complete the level because when I tried to put the object with the new scoreboard, it had the big red exclamation mark on it. So, I went back to the original level, removed the object from the scoreboard and viola! No more error message... for me at least. So all that hard work recreating it and I could have simply removed the object from the scoreboard. Oh well, I like the new version a bit better anyway, as it has additions and I believe it's built more efficiently in some areas.

Thanks again to all who left feedback and put up with the bug and let me know if you continue to encounter it or if it's been squashed for good!

EDIT: I promise I will start doing F4F soon too! That load error was very distracting, so now that it's out of the way, I'm ready to leave some feedback!

Yet another awesome level from mrsupercomputer! I just love your trademark style of creating these levels (they all seem to have a 'save our people/forest/windmill' theme).

One minor criticism, though. At the beginning of the level, the stars are shining. Couldn't you have saved the stars until it gets dark? They look kinda odd in daylight.

Anyway, I give this level 5 stars and a heart.

I thought about that myself, but the background was pretty sparse, so I figured a few stars wouldn't hurt. Kind of like early evening, when you can make out just a few in the sky. I tend to tinker with my levels even after they're complete, so I'll keep playing around to see how it looks without the stars and with maybe a few more balloons in the background.

Thanks for the feedback!

For the feedback, Morgana25 and I are releasing our level some time after the spotlight, so when we publish it, could you leave feedback?

I replayed the level btw.

A couple of things about the boss. His gun blocks his face!! lol. It can get annoying, I gave up and went for the jetpack.

When he comes down and faces away from you, I didn't realise you could walk between his legs for a long time! I dunno what you can do, but maybe:

Have a 3rd pirate, that is symetrical, and have the others fly up when shot, then the middle one come down?

I figured that is the level you would want feedback for, so I'll be happy to do it after you release it.

When you say that his gun blocks his face, do you mean while he is in the air? If so, that is intentional. I want players to have to bring him down first, then he'll lower the gun and his helmet will pull back. Although you can still get his face with some expert shooting from underneath while his in the air.

I know that it's a bit tough to get him, but if you move with him and shoot you can get infront of him quicker. I actually try to position myself under his gun and shoot up at his chest.

With the way the boss fight is constructed, it'd be extremely difficult for me to add in a third pirate and I'm not sure my thermo could even take it. The boss will probably have to be left as is for now, with the exception of a few tweaks here and there. Maybe I could have him drop a bit slower? Then you'd have more time to move underneath him.

That could work. I still think that when he is flying around shooting, we should be given more time to bring him down tbh. Other than that it's fine, most of the problems were with him taking 2 or more turns to bring down.

Also, I tried to play the level again, still got failed to load bug! Sorry, but I don't think it worked

Having not played LBP in a while, I happened to check if you made anything since Mulberry Woods. Seriously, you might just be my favourite creator now, both this and the other new level were unbelievably awesome, and polished to Media Molecule standards. I have no criticisms or suggestions. Hmm, really? I no longer get it and I've had a friend of mine test it and he no longer does as well. My play count also shot up and the number of 2, 3, and 4 players increased, so I thought it was history. Anyone else still running into the bug?

I thought it was due to the Pirate Henchman Object that I gave away at the scoreboard, if you have the one from the original level, maybe it's still causing the error.

Ah yes, feedback4feedback. If you're playing with a friend, I wouldn't mind some suggestions for my Escape to the.....it's in my sig, that's the one I'm currently looking for feedback on. If not, no big deal, but I'm always happy when people play my older levels; Aww Pee Gee, The Ultimate Test, etc. 2009-04-29 00:58:00

How exactly did you create the waterfall? I mean I tried to do what you said, but it turned out really weird. If the top is on a piston, moving up and down, how are you able to put that middle layer without interupting that thin layer? I don't get it...

EDIT: Nevermind, I'm dumb.

hope you plan on making sequels to this

Ok writing this as I go along so it'll be sloppy:

Wow, level looks amazing. Nice waterfall and the characters look great! I want to be a sky pirate now . Liked how you put balloons smaller to make them look like they're far away. I loved the timed platforms, that was very clever. Liked how you had to use the paintanator to shoot the bombs so they wont fall on you. Whoa, very nice boss battle. Overall, very nice level, 4 stars. The only real feedback I can give is that you might wanna consider putting the Powerup Remover in some areas. The level was kinda short but still great.

Hmm, I don't know how to explain it but there's some parts you have to grab things right after you use the paintanator. Some people might die if they don't let it go before they jump. I don't think it's really that important though.

Oh, I see. If I could hide the big X that displays with the item remover, then I would probably implement it, but it's so visually distracting. I did figure out that a player who holds on to the paintinator can actually prevent the bombs from hitting the bridge though. I'm debating whether I want to prevent that. I don't really see any harm in it though.

If you want to implement it, Grantos made a very nice tutorial (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=10796) on how to hide the X.

+ Fantastic style, i love the atmosphere in this level, it's a bit mysterious, reminds me of myst for some reason. Music fits very well too!
+ Waterfall is really great! I've seen tons of much more complex waterfalls which doesn't look half as good as yours.
+ Characters and objects are really well done, (love the first windmill)

- the last part (with the clouds) was a bit weak compared to the rest of the level :-(

Yeah, I know. That part was kind of tacked on as a way to get to the scoreboard and didn't turn out quite as well as I would have liked. I'm gonna keep tweaking it though.

No worries, I don't plan to remove it or change it that much and if I do anything with the cloud section at all, it will probably be an increase in difficulty or just a tweak to it visually. Nothing major will change to the gameplay

I dug the level... Not much I can add as far as comments go. I thought it had a nice challenge, but for someone who is not that great of a platformer, I didn't think it was too hard.

The sky pirate was a cool design...

And I liked the little details you had in it... The piston ran engines, and such.

5/5/heart from me.

I saw your comment on LBP and spent some time yesterday trying to prevent the issue that happen with you from occurring again. I've had it happen to me before, but I've had a hard time replicating it. I think I may have figured out why it happens though.

Not that my boss will be 100% perfect now, as he's pretty complicated behind the scenes and if one thing breaks or screws up, then the rest is boned as well. I hope you have a better experience the second try though and thanks for that feedback on LBP! I'll keep working on him and try to get him as glitch free as possible.

I came here to give some feedback on Zephyr Valley, and after seeing the screenshots I realised I've already played it, and I loved it! I just replayed it to give some more accurate feedback, and here it is: The villager looks fantastic, as does the sky pirate. The environments are absolutely beautiful, I cannot think of a negative thing to say in regards to design. Gameplay wise, I found the jumps to be a good level of challenge and not at all frustrating, and the timed section at the start reminds me of playing Tomb Raider and frantically trying to get through a door before it closed - fantastic!

The only issue I came across was in the first encounter with the pirate where you have the paintinator - I kept sliding off the platform nearest to him, and when I fell I would land on balloons in the level below instead of hitting a hazard, and I could see some dark matter above me. I noticed that if I fell just a bit further on (the jump between the two swinging platforms) I would land in the clouds and die, and that if I fell down and back a bit I would also die, but there is a gap directly underneath the platform where the player can fall through the scenery cloud and not hit gas.

I thought I had all of that covered, but I guess not! Thanks for letting me know about this! I strive to prevent these things from happening, but always manage to overlook one or two areas!

Thanks for your other feedback as well! It's appreciated!

Just finally got round to playing zis. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! The balloons were fantastically stylised, as were the windmills. I got a bit annoyed when the wobble-bolt platforms first moved, I thought they were permanent, so I jumped...and they moved. As for the boss, wonderfully dramatic and flawless, however it is slightly easy (Aced first try ) Anyway, all in all, a beautiful level with great style and interesting gameplay. I think that on that run I actually missed a some point bubbles and blew a combo as well. I'm actually upset with myself for getting that high score. I was trying to see how well I could do, but didn't plan to finish. However, when I finished the race, I had a total brain fart and flew into the scoreboard. It should be beatable though, but it'll be close.

I finally played your level and...well I can't even offer any valid objective criticism of it, I was so completely blown away that it's impossible for me to find any fault at all.

Most of all I loved the sense of scale, having the tiny balloons floating in the background to give the illusion of endless distance was a masterstroke, and the design of major set pieces such as the first windmill and the showdown with the final sky pirate had my jaw on the ground.

Thank you for this incredible level, it had everything: variety in gameplay, visuals with both incredible detail and sense of scale and a tight storyline that tied the entire thing together. Just amazing.

So umm, is there an easier way to get to the 3 point bubbles on the right platform in the middle of the level. They're on the right side of the tower with the zipline.

I only got to them once when I managed to get a boosted jump on accident, but I couldn't figure out a consistent way to reach them...

I only got to them once when I managed to get a boosted jump on accident, but I couldn't figure out a consistent way to reach them...

Right now, the only way to grab them is by using the balloon from the rocket that hits the bridge. You can either grab it to get a boost or jump off of it. Also, you may have noticed that I have added a few more point bubbles throughout the level. Since I held the high score, I thought I'd throw a few more in there.

Hey man,
played this level a while back but never got round to posting here about it. I really liked this level. The characters and level design is top notch. This is one of the very few levels that I actually actively searched out the prizes (I had to check out that windmill, genious idea of using the tape sticker to make it look like cloth. I've nabbed that idea for one of my upcoming levels ) Anyway, I know you already have a load of feedback so I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed this. Nice job!

You didnt ask for it but im giving you feedback anyways.

Ive played this before, and i managed to get 4th place, now that that ive played it again, im currently 2nd to its creator.

What do i gotta say, levels like these make me do a better job at creating. And thats a compliment!

- Charter designs were top notch!

- The visuals are fantastic i loved every single component that you have placed in this level, everything seemed fit and all materials were well picked. The background is 3d like and it made it seem like theres a far distance between your location to the other balloons.

- The lighting and use of the global lighting tool is well executed.

- The sound fits great.

- Smart aleck conversations were a plus.

- And the entrance to the boss was also fitting.

As for gameplay, its well balanced for all LBP players, I seem to have a problem in this category, since i tend to challenge players. (im in the learning process of being generous tho [emergency help sponges anyone? lol])

The Boss battle is simple in nature but complex behind the scenes. The Lightning effects added some challenge but very doable for the majority of LBP.

Great Job!

Overall, i gave this level 5 stars and Satisfying. Hearted!

Yup, gotta love those charters!

I`ve already given feedback, but I thought I`d say more. I just love the world created. The blue rock with the giant cracks running along them just look amazing, when so many others (me) would`ve used rough brick. And the buildings are so intricate. I want to move house to Zephyr Valley!

One tiny problem I saw last night was in 2p. There`s a part where you have a platform on a winch that takes you along horizontally. Obviously you have it set for 'all in' before it works, but when my idiot playing partner (he knows who he is) jumped off early, I was stuck on it by myself slowly drifting backwards. Tbh it was so funny that I wouldn`t recommend changing it, but I figured I`d let you know. I`m not sure of adding a pause would change anything since the winch wasn`t at the end of its run

I was aware of this, but unsure whether to make any changes or not. I just assumed that if someone's partner were to jump off, the platform would just move back a little before the player respawns and then it moves forward again.

Thanks for bringing this up Matt and for your other comments as well.

He didn`t jump off and die, he jumped onto the next platform a bit earlier than I would`ve but enough to make it and no more. By the time I realised he`d jumped it was too big a gap to make. So he stayed alive and laughed at me as I was taken away to my doom.2009-05-22 18:19:00

Absolutely fantastic level, in every way. Character design is too good... environment design and looks... too good (reminds me of a few areas in the last Prince of Persia game). Just the right amount of dialogue, tons of personality, perfect gameplay, balance and challenge... Little details like sounds, mechanics in the background, and using small objects to create distance in the background. So much variety in the level too, and a boss battle that's easily in my top 5. Level's can't get much better than this on LBP, and I'm so sick of seeing 4 stars on stuff like this. Can't wait for your next one.2009-06-10 20:17:00

While I was playing this, I never even considered the fact that you can't just turn the boss around and send him back into action. It seems so natural for a game, that I didn't even consider it shouldn't be happening. Brilliant!

I really like the quality/detail of your characters. Dude at the start with the turban looks fantastic, and he's just a signpost really.

Also, I feel like enough can't possibly be said about your designs and staging. Lighting, camera angles, decorative details -- all of it is just fantastic. Consistent and sticks to the theme; very 'professional' looking.

Thanks for all your time and effort!

This level is probably one of my favorite levels in LBP! As I said before, I appreciate details in a level and you take it to an entire different level! I had stopped playing LBP for a while and after playing this level and Manufactured Madness, they inspired me to start creating again.
Very rarely I heart a creator and if I could I would give you two. This level is pretty much perfect. The background, characters and atmosphere are flawless and somehow you managed to make it fun and playable. Even the most simple stuff like the balloons in the distance made it unreal for me.
I've seen you online at the "Empty Level" so I can't wait what's coming next.
I also hope we get the "online create" thingy gets up so we can create something together
See ya online.

This inspired me to be ebetter at character and art design. I wouldn't ddo Zephyr valley 2 though. I like all the standalone unique levels better.2009-08-17 20:55:00

Yeah, I'm a fan of the stand alone levels, but I lately I've had the urge to revisit some of the worlds I've created and Zephyr Valley is probably my favorite. So, I would expect a Zephyr Valley 2 sometime in the future, but that doesn't mean I'll stop making new environments for Sackboy to explore.

Bit of thread resurrection here, seems logical though in the showcase section.

Loved the level! I only played mulberry woods, which was cool but it didn't prepare me for this. I'll make my commentary point by point.

The good (most was good, this is what really stood out to me):
+ Great looking art, sleek and effective. It's pretty without overmuch detail in the landscape and that makes the details (like the balloons or the windmills) stand out even more
+ Great polish, in gameplay and graphics, no glitches or weird edges or whatever
+ Really good characters
+ The boss fight: fantastic gameplay, and ditto grapghics (sparkly engine and opening faceplate are the favourites here)
+ Sections with bridges blowing away were magnificent, as was the section were you have to shoot the missles
+ Overall good paintinator use
+ Liked the jumps with the glass platforms, nice smooth platforming
+ Lots I'm not mentioning

The bad (well relatively then)
- The balloons were a bit too steady: the "elevator" balloons moved really harsh (stiff, str 10 piston right?) and the "platform" balloons acted like they are solid ground. Would have been prettier if you suspended them on a stiff, fairly strong spring right? That might screw with sackboy being able to jump off them though...
- Level could have been a tad more goal oriented, I know you have to beat the sky pirates but why do you have to travel all the way to get them? I just didn't really feel I was going somewhere... bit of a gut feeling problem I guess, but it might help you. Same deal with Manufactered Madness (gonna post it there too )

The nitpicking, really small points to me (only visible because the rest is so good):
- the clouds could have used a bit more pixels (not nice and round) why haven't you made them out of cloth or something that smoothes?
- The sky pirates could have used a slight tad of variation (different color or something)
- Boss fight was a tad long, but that might have more to do with my aiming skills

I'm spent, gonna comment on MM now
