Freezing hazard?

Archive: 10 posts

This is my first post, even though I've had LBP since about two weeks after launch. Anyways, after a little browsing, it seems like nobody else has suggested this. The basic idea is a new type of hazard, that's called 'ice' or 'freezing' tool. The thought process of this is to have another type of hazard to round it out. Lightning is instant death, fire is bouncing aroung on your burning tootsies, gas floats around and looks cool, why not make ice? When sackboy (sackgirl (sack animal)) hits it, he is frozen in place for a set amount of time. Or even, frozen until another sacperson comes and saves him?

I think this would be a rather interesting mechanic in time challenge type levels, and would just be an interesting new type if trap. (Try avoiding the boulder now that your stuck!)
If it was set so a friend had to save you, it could make for an interesting team challenge.

For that matter, I suppose instead of ice, you could call it 'goo'. And it would just be really sticky stuff. (And lets face it. Seeing sackboy trying to free himself from a giant sticky wad of gum would just be funny.)

Good idea no?

OOOOOO! you can do this...

when you touch the ice, you freeze from toe-head within like 5 seconds, then shadder to pieces!!!

To clarify what john said, there *used* to be an ice hazard that would freeze Sackboy in place, only unfreezing him when he was off the ice or smashed into a wall and broke the ice. However, for reasons unknown, it never made it into the full game.2009-04-25 07:49:00

Mm states why the ice hazard didn't make it in the game in one of the Podcasts (pretty sure its their second one).2009-04-25 07:56:00

Wasn't it because you would get stuck in ice, unfreeze, then fall out of the ice...and land on ice?2009-04-25 11:32:00

I'm pretty sure this feature will make its triumphant return in a future update.
Because they really seemed to regret dumping it in the first place.

They don't have to worry about making a tight deadline anymore, they have the time to make this work.

As others have said, it was in the beta of the game, but never made it to the full game. Although I like your idea of goo, that would be just funny.2009-04-25 12:50:00

Well thankyou. I really just suggested it because I think it'd be nice to have a hazard that wasn't a hazard in itself. Rather then directly killing you, touching goo or ice would set you up for destruction from something the creater has.

The goo won't kill you, but the seconds you spend stuck make it likely mr. pendelum will hit you.

They said it was too clunky. You would shake the sixaxis to break free from the ice. The problem? Well, imagine you fell onto a block of Dangerous Ice. You freeze, break free, freeze, break freeze, freeze, and so on. Workarounds could be done, but Mark explained on the second Podcast that it just "didn't feel right", if I remember correctly. Either there, or somewhere else.2009-04-28 04:27:00
